Universitat i escoles d'adults
University, adults schools teachers of the no-university level, sociocultural animation (sociocultural community development) and free-time, ocupacional formation of monitores and the dedicated to a marginals sectors, etc ..., all of them are institucions and functions that can be conceived like seratives-operations of the system that segregate and marginal, or like change agent. Both university and adult schools of no-university level have a comply investigation and teaching functions in the setting of the global Action Plan about territory, district or region (Territorial Project of the Base), to improve conditions of the persons than live there
Taming of Modulation Instability by Spatio-Temporal Modulation of the Potential
Spontaneous pattern formation in a variety of spatially extended nonlinear
system always occurs through a modulation instability: homogeneous state of the
system becomes unstable with respect to growing modulation modes. Therefore,
the manipulation of the modulation instability is of primary importance in
controlling and manipulating the character of spatial patterns initiated by
that instability. We show that the spatio-temporal periodic modulation of the
potential of the spatially extended system results in a modification of its
pattern forming instability. Depending on the modulation character the
instability can be partially suppressed, can change its spectrum (for instance
the long wave instability can transform into short wave instability), can split
into two, or can be completely eliminated. The latter result is of especial
practical interest, as can be used to stabilize the intrinsically unstable
system. The result bears general character, as it is shown here on a universal
model of Complex Ginzburg-Landau equations in one and two spatial dimension
(and time). The physical mechanism of instability suppression can be applied to
a variety of intrinsically unstable dissipative systems, like self-focusing
lasers, reaction-diffusion systems, as well as in unstable conservative
systems, like attractive Bose Einstein condensates.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, 1 supplementary video fil
"Really? Thanks, I got it at the mall": How EFL Learners Perceive Compliment Responses and the Role of Proficiency
Mà ster de LingüÃstica Aplicada i Adquisició de Llengües en Contextos Multilingües, Departament de Llengües i Literatures Modernes i d'Estudis Anglesos, Universitat de Barcelona. Curs: 2021-2022. Tutora: Júlia Barón[eng] This study aims to investigate the interface between proficiency and second language (L2) pragmatics by focusing on the pragmatic awareness of the speech act of compliment responses (CRs). The research centred around a teenage population of Spanish learners of English as a foreign language (EFL). Their perceptive pragmatic knowledge was tested via a pragmatic awareness video elicitation task (PAVET) where they had to rate the appropriateness of 15 CRs from 1 (inappropriate) to 6 (very appropriate). Subjects were divided into high and low proficiency groups according to their vocabulary sizes to see in what ways their responses to the task differed. Their ratings were then compared to a native speaker (NS) benchmark to obtain a sameness score and results indicate a moderate inverse correlation between proficiency level and near-nativeness. Findings suggest the first language (L1) plays an important role in pragmatic awareness and that proficiency alone is not a determinative factor in order to acquire pragmatic knowledge as there are several other factors that can influence pragmatic development
Comparing assays for the measurement of AhR ligand activity
Curs 2013-2014In this thesis (TFG) the results of the comparison of three assays for the measurement of AhR ligand activity are exposed. This study was part of a collaborative project aiming at the characterization of the AhR signaling activities of known naturally occurring compounds to explore the potential of using non-toxic compounds to treat inflammatory diseases via oral administration.
The first goal of this project was to find an assay able to measure AhR-activity, so the comparison of different assays has been done in order to find the most convenient one according to the efficiency, sensitivity and precision. Moreover, other elements with operational nature such as price, toxicity of components or ease of use has been considered. From the use of compounds known from the literature to be AhR ligands, three assays have been tested: (1) P450-GloTM CYP1A2 Induction/Inhibition assay, (2) quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) and (3) DR. CALUX® Bioassay. Moreover, a different experiment using the last assay was performed for the study in vivo of the transport of the compounds tested.
The results of the TFG suggested the DR. CALUX® Bioassay as the most promising assay to be used for the screening of samples as AhR-ligands because it is quicker, easier to handle and less expensive than qPCR and more reproducible than the CYP1A2 Induction/Inhibition assay. Moreover, the use of this assay allowed having a first idea of which compounds are uptaken by the epithelial barrier and in with direction the transport happens
UTP Clinic Management System
This report focuses on the implementation of a management system that should be implemented at the
University Technology PETRONAS’s clinic in order to manage effectively their daily clinic operation
information.
The system that is currently used by the clinic’s staff is a manual system, which generates a lot of
problems such as time consuming, misplacing of files, etc.
The implementation of this system will include patient’s registration, storing their details into the
system, medicine registration, disease registration and reports as well. This system will be having the
facility to give a unique id for every patient and stores the details of every patient and the staff
automatically.
The clinic Management System can be entered using a username and password. It is accessible either
by an administrator or receptionist. The data can be retrieved easily. The interface is very user-friendly.
The data is well protected for personal use and makes the data processing very fast.
Entire application is web based and built on 3-tier architecture using the latest technologies. The sound
database of the application makes it more users friendly and expandable. The project is highly
customizable and can be modified as per the needs and requirements of the client
