The large declines in the Slovak and Czech employment appeared because the countries' GDPs grew smaller while real wages grew bigger. Doing research in immigration removal centres: ethics, emotions and impact
Immigration Removal Centres (IRCs) are deeply contested institutions that rarely open their doors to independent research. In this article we discuss some of the complications we faced in conducting the first national study of everyday life in them. As we will set out, research relationships were difficult to forge due to low levels of trust, and unfamiliarity with academic research. At the same time, many participants had unrealistic expectations about our capacity to assist while most exhibited high levels of distress. We were not immune from the emotional burden of the field sites. Such matters were compounded by the limited amount of published information about life in IRCs and a lack of ethical guidelines addressing such places. Drawing on related literature from prison sociology, we use our experiences in IRCs to set out a methodological account of understanding, ethics, and impact within these complex sites

This report provides a concise overview of Working Futures 2017-2027 results for the UK. It presents historical trends and future prospects by sector for the UK and its constituent nations and the English regions. The prime focus of Working Futures is on the demand for skills as measured by employment by occupation and qualification, although the supply side is also considered. Its prime objective is to provide useful labour market information that can help to inform policy development and strategy around skills, careers and employment, for both policy makers and a much wider audience. The results are intended to provide a sound statistical foundation for reflection and debate among all those with an interest in the demand for and supply of skills. It is aimed at the general reader and focuses on the key messages from this very detailed study. It complements the more detailed outputs and results from the project available from the gov.uk website2 and cover sectors, occupations, geography and qualifications

Can Montana Shrews be Identified using Morphology of Dorsal Guard Hairs?
Several species of shrews present in Montana are considered species of concern by state and federal agencies, primarily due to a lack of information. Current methods for identifying shrew species can be costly, potentially inaccurate, and logistically challenging. We sought to validate a novel methodology developed in the United Kingdom that uses morphological characteristics of dorsal guard hairs for identification of shrew species. Utilizing museum collections at Montana State University and the University of Montana, we sampled dorsal guard hairs from specimens of Montana shrews with known identities. We measured four length and width characteristics for each hair sample and used a discriminate function analysis to calculate the probability of correctly identify a specimen to species. We achieved >80% confidence identifying the pygmy shrew (Sorex hoyi), which is a species of concern in Montana, and >70% confidence identifying the Northern short-tailed shrew (Blarina brevicauda). To increase our ability to discriminate between species we analyzed subsets of species found within discrete ecoregions and habitats. Within these subsets we achieved >80%confidence identifying the masked shrew (S. cinereus), and >60% confidence identifying the dwarf shrew (S. nanus). These findings suggest that this new methodology is viable for some species and can provide a simple, affordable research tool for the targeted study of shrews in Montana
