Acceptability with general orderings
We present a new approach to termination analysis of logic programs. The
essence of the approach is that we make use of general orderings (instead of
level mappings), like it is done in transformational approaches to logic
program termination analysis, but we apply these orderings directly to the
logic program and not to the term-rewrite system obtained through some
transformation. We define some variants of acceptability, based on general
orderings, and show how they are equivalent to LD-termination. We develop a
demand driven, constraint-based approach to verify these
acceptability-variants.
The advantage of the approach over standard acceptability is that in some
cases, where complex level mappings are needed, fairly simple orderings may be
easily generated. The advantage over transformational approaches is that it
avoids the transformation step all together.

The âwwwâ of Xenopus laevis Oocytes: The Why, When, What of Xenopus laevis Oocytes in Membrane Transporters Research
After 50 years, the heterologous expression of proteins in Xenopus laevis oocytes is still essential in many research fields. New approaches and revised protocols, but also classical methods, such as the two-electrode voltage clamp, are applied in studying membrane transporters. New and old methods for investigating the activity and the expression of Solute Carriers (SLC) are reviewed, and the kinds of experiment that are still useful to perform with this kind of cell are reported. Xenopus laevis oocytes at the full-grown stage have a highly efficient biosynthetic apparatus that correctly targets functional proteins at the defined compartment. This small protein factory can produce, fold, and localize almost any kind of wild-type or recombinant protein; some tricks are required to obtain high expression and to verify the functionality. The methodologies examined here are mainly related to research in the field of membrane transporters. This work is certainly not exhaustive; it has been carried out to be helpful to researchers who want to quickly find suggestions and detailed indications when investigating the functionality and expression of the different members of the solute carrier families
A comparative review on the well-studied GAT1 and the understudied BGT-1 in the brain
Îł-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system (CNS). Its homeostasis is maintained by neuronal and glial GABA transporters (GATs). The four GATs identified in humans are GAT1 (SLC6A1), GAT2 (SLC6A13), GAT3 (SLC6A11), and betaine/GABA transporter-1 BGT-1 (SLC6A12) which are all members of the solute carrier 6 (SLC6) family of sodium-dependent transporters. While GAT1 has been investigated extensively, the other GABA transporters are less studied and their role in CNS is not clearly defined. Altered GABAergic neurotransmission is involved in different diseases, but the importance of the different transporters remained understudied and limits drug targeting. In this review, the well-studied GABA transporter GAT1 is compared with the less-studied BGT-1 with the aim to leverage the knowledge on GAT1 to shed new light on the open questions concerning BGT-1. The most recent knowledge on transporter structure, functions, expression, and localization is discussed along with their specific role as drug targets for neurological and neurodegenerative disorders. We review and discuss data on the binding sites for Na+, Cl-, substrates, and inhibitors by building on the recent cryo-EM structure of GAT1 to highlight specific molecular determinants of transporter functions. The role of the two proteins in GABA homeostasis is investigated by looking at the transport coupling mechanism, as well as structural and kinetic transport models. Furthermore, we review information on selective inhibitors together with the pharmacophore hypothesis of transporter substrates
Light dark forces at flavor factories
SuperB experiment could represent an ideal environment to test a new U (1)
symmetry related to light dark forces candidates. A promising discovery channel
is represented by the resonant production of a boson U, followed by its decay
into lepton pairs. Beyond approximations adopted in the literature, an exact
tree level calculation of the radiative processes and corresponding QED
backgrounds is performed, including also the most important higher-order
corrections. The calculation is implemented in a release of the generator
BabaYaga@NLO useful for data analysis and interpretation. The distinct features
of U boson production are shown and the statistical significance is analysed
Atmospheric VOC measurements at a High Arctic site: Characteristics and source apportionment
There are few long-term datasets of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the High Arctic. Furthermore, knowledge about their source regions remains lacking. To address this matter, we report a multiseason dataset of highly time-resolved VOC measurements in the High Arctic from April to October 2018. We have utilized a combination of measurement and modeling techniques to characterize the mixing ratios, temporal patterns, and sources of VOCs at the Villum Research Station at Station Nord in northeastern Greenland. Atmospheric VOCs were measured using proton-transfer-reaction time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Ten ions were selected for source apportionment with the positive matrix factorization (PMF) receptor model. A four-factor solution to the PMF model was deemed optimal. The factors identified were biomass burning, marine cryosphere, background, and Arctic haze. The biomass burning factor described the variation of acetonitrile and benzene and peaked during August and September. The marine cryosphere factor was comprised of carboxylic acids (formic, acetic, and C3H6O2) as well as dimethyl sulfide (DMS). This factor displayed peak contributions during periods of snow and sea ice melt. A potential source contribution function (PSCF) showed that the source regions for this factor were the coasts around southeastern and northeastern Greenland. The background factor was temporally ubiquitous, with a slight decrease in the summer. This factor was not driven by any individual chemical species. The Arctic haze factor was dominated by benzene with contributions from oxygenated VOCs. This factor exhibited a maximum in the spring and minima during the summer and autumn. This temporal pattern and species profile are indicative of anthropogenic sources in the midlatitudes. This study provides seasonal characteristics and sources of VOCs and can help elucidate the processes affecting the atmospheric chemistry and biogeochemical feedback mechanisms in the High Arctic
Low-Energy Signals from Kinetic Mixing with a Warped Abelian Hidden Sector
We investigate the detailed phenomenology of a light Abelian hidden sector in
the Randall-Sundrum framework. Relative to other works with light hidden
sectors, the main new feature is a tower of hidden Kaluza-Klein vectors that
kinetically mix with the Standard Model photon and Z. We investigate the decay
properties of the hidden sector fields in some detail, and develop an approach
for calculating processes initiated on the ultraviolet brane of a warped space
with large injection momentum relative to the infrared scale. Using these
results, we determine the detailed bounds on the light warped hidden sector
from precision electroweak measurements and low-energy experiments. We find
viable regions of parameter space that lead to significant production rates for
several of the hidden Kaluza-Klein vectors in meson factories and fixed-target
experiments. This offers the possibility of exploring the structure of an extra

Precision Measurement of KS Meson Lifetime with the KLOE detector
Using a large sample of pure, slow, short lived K0 mesons collected with KLOE
detector at DaFne, we have measured the KS lifetime. From a fit to the proper
time distribution we find tau = (89.562 +- 0.029_stat +- 0.043_syst) ps. This
is the most precise measurement today in good agreement with the world average
derived from previous measurements. We observe no dependence of the lifetime on

Measurement of the slope parameter with the KLOE detector
We present a measurement of the slope parameter for the decay, with the KLOE experiment at the DANE -factory,
based on a background free sample of 17 millions mesons produced
in radiative decays. By fitting the event density in the Dalitz plot we
determine \alpha = -0.0301 \pm 0.0035\,stat\;_{-0.0035}^{+0.0022}\,syst\,.
The result is in agreement with recent measurements from hadro- and

Measurement of \Gamma(\eta -> \pi^+\pi^-\gamma)/\Gamma(\eta -> \pi^+\pi^-\pi^0) with the KLOE Detector
The ratio R_{\eta}=\Gamma(\eta -> \pi^+\pi^-\gamma)/\Gamma(\eta ->
\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0) has been measured by analyzing 22 million \phi \to \eta \gamma
decays collected by the KLOE experiment at DA\PhiNE, corresponding to an
integrated luminosity of 558 pb^{-1}. The \eta \to \pi^+\pi^-\gamma proceeds
both via the \rho resonant contribution, and possibly a non-resonant direct
term, connected to the box anomaly. Our result, R_{\eta}= 0.1856\pm
0.0005_{stat} \pm 0.0028_{syst}, points out a sizable contribution of the
direct term to the total width. The di-pion invariant mass for the \eta ->
\pi^+\pi^-\gamma decay could be described in a model-independent approach in
terms of a single free parameter, \alpha. The determined value of the parameter
\alpha is \alpha = (1.32 \pm 0.08_{stat} +0.10/-0.09_{syst}\pm 0.02_{theo})
