    Case Studies As Practical Teaching In The New Marketing Courses

    The European Higher Education Area is assuming a change in the teaching-learning of all European universities. The area of Marketing, traditionally characterized by being at the forefront in terms of educational innovation, faces the challenge of finding new tools to facilitate the work of students by encouraging their involvement in the acquisition of new skills. This paper analyzes the capacity that the development of case studies has to develop skills and competencies by the students, which are defendants in the framework of the European Higher Education Area to suit the environment established in the labor market. To this end, it is analyzed the experience and the main conclusions of the practices carried out at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, with the participation of student groups at an international conference aimed at developing teaching cases in public and nonprofit marketing

    La percepción de justicia juega un rol muy importante en la toma de decisiones del consumidor. La situación económica de muchos hogares hace que la percepción de justicia de precios sea crucial en el comportamiento de compra. Esta situación no es ajena a un sector tan importante como el sector turístico, y concretamente a la reserva de hoteles. En este trabajo se considera la reserva de un hotel online para analizar las consecuencias en el comportamiento de compra que se derivan de la percepción de justicia de precios. Éstas se ponen de manifiesto a largo plazo cuando la situación es irreversible, por lo que los vendedores deben conocerlas para tener claros los efectos que puede provocar la consideración de sus precios como injustos.The fairness perception has an important role in consumer decision. The economic situation of many households makes that the fairness price perception was very important in the purchase behavior. This situation is not alien to such an important sector as the tourism sector, and specifically to the hotel booking. In this paper we consider the online hotel booking to analyze the consequences on purchase behavior stemming from the fairness price perception. These effects can be seen in the long term when the situation is irreversible, therefore the sellers should know those consequences to be clear about the effects that can have if their prices are considered unfair

    El crecimiento de los establecimientos comerciales minoristas y la implantación de las Nuevas Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación y, en concreto de Internet, han provocado un importante aumento de las opciones de compra disponibles y, en consecuencia, de los hábitos de compra de los individuos. Las características sociodemográficas, cognitivas y motivacionales del consumidor virtual son algunos de los factores que afectan directamente en su proceso de compra. Por tanto, en el presente trabajo se analizan las principales variables que influyen en el comportamiento de compra del consumidor en entornos virtuales, así como los principales modelos de medición que analizan de manera globalizada las relaciones de influencia entre dichas variables.The relevant retailers increase and the establishment of Information and Communication New Technologies, such as the Internet, have caused that shopping options available for consumer also are being amplified.     Predicting Subclinical Atherosclerosis in Low-Risk Individuals: Ideal Cardiovascular Health Score and Fuster-BEWAT Score.

    BACKGROUND: The ideal cardiovascular health score (ICHS) is recommended for use in primary prevention. Simpler tools not requiring laboratory tests, such as the Fuster-BEWAT (blood pressure [B], exercise [E], weight [W], alimentation [A], and tobacco [T]) score (FBS), are also available. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of ICHS and FBS in predicting the presence and extent of subclinical atherosclerosis. METHODS: A total of 3,983 participants 40 to 54 years of age were enrolled in the PESA (Progression of Early Subclinical Atherosclerosis) cohort. Subclinical atherosclerosis was measured in right and left carotids, abdominal aorta, right and left iliofemoral arteries, and coronary arteries. Subjects were classified as having poor, intermediate, or ideal cardiovascular health based on the number of favorable ICHS or FBS. RESULTS: With poor ICHS and FBS as references, individuals with ideal ICHS and FBS showed lower adjusted odds of having atherosclerotic plaques (ICHS odds ratio [OR]: 0.41; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.31 to 0.55 vs. FBS OR: 0.49; 95% CI: 0.36 to 0.66), coronary artery calcium (CACS) ≥1 (CACS OR: 0.41; 95% CI: 0.28 to 0.60 vs. CACS OR: 0.53; 95% CI: 0.38 to 0.74), higher number of affected territories (OR: 0.32; 95% CI: 0.26 to 0.41 vs. OR: 0.39; 95% CI: 0.31 to 0.50), and higher CACS level (OR: 0.40; 95% CI: 0.28 to 0.58 vs. OR: 0.52; 95% CI: 0.38 to 0.72). Similar levels of significantly discriminating accuracy were found for ICHS and FBS with respect to the presence of plaques (C-statistic: 0.694; 95% CI: 0.678 to 0.711 vs. 0.692; 95% CI: 0.676 to 0.709, respectively) and for CACS ≥1 (C-statistic: 0.782; 95% CI: 0.765 to 0.800 vs. 0.780; 95% CI: 0.762 to 0.798, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Both scores predict the presence and extent of subclinical atherosclerosis with similar accuracy, highlighting the value of the FBS as a simpler and more affordable score for evaluating the risk of subclinical disease

    Concurrent validity of supraclavicular skin temperature measured with iButtons and infrared thermography as a surrogate marker of brown adipose tissue

We are grateful to Alberto Quesada-Aranda for helping with the development of the Temperatus software (Free trial in http://profth.ugr.es/temperatus).This study is part of a Ph.D. Thesis conducted in the Biomedicine Doctoral Studies of the University of Granada, Spain.Brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenic activity is commonly assessed with a positron emission tomography with computed tomography scan (PET/CT). This technique has several limitations and alternative techniques are needed. Supraclavicular skin temperature measured with iButtons and infrared thermography (IRT) has been proposed as an indirect marker of BAT activity. We studied the concurrent validity of skin temperature measured with iButtons vs. IRT and the association of supraclavicular skin temperature measured with iButtons and IRT with BAT. We measured skin temperature upon a shivering threshold test with iButtons and IRT in 6 different regions in 12 participants (n = 2 men). On a separate day, we determined supraclavicular skin temperature with an iButton and IRT after 2 h of a personalized cooling protocol. Thereafter, we quantified BAT volume and activity by PET/CT. We observed that the absolute differences between the devices were statistically different from 0 (all P < 0.05) after the shivering threshold test. Moreover, we did not find any association between supraclavicular skin temperature measured with iButtons or IRT and BAT 18F-FDG activity (r = −0.213; P = 0.530 and r = −0.079; P = 0.817). However, we observed a negative association of supraclavicular skin temperature measured by IRT with BAT 18F-FDG volume (r = −0.764; P = 0.006), but not with supraclavicular skin temperature measured with iButtons (r = −0.546; P = 0.082). In light of these results, we concluded that the measurement of skin temperature obtained by iButtons and IRT are not comparable.     Rationale and design of the SI! Program for health promotion in elementary students aged 6 to 11 years: A cluster randomized trial

    Unhealthy habits in children are increasing at an alarming rate. The school provides a promising setting for effective preventive strategies to improve children's lifestyle behaviors. The SI! Program is a multilevel multicomponent school-based educational intervention aimed at all stages of compulsory education in Spain. Here, we present the design of the SI! Program for Elementary School cluster-randomized controlled trial, targeting children aged 6 to 11 years. This trial aims to study the impact of different timings and intensities of exposure to SI! Program activities on elementary school children and their immediate environment (parents/caregivers, teachers, and school). The trial includes 1770 children from 48 public elementary schools in Madrid (Spain), together with their parents and teachers. Schools and their children were randomly assigned to the intervention group (the SI! curriculum-based educational program over 3 or 6 academic years) or to the control group (standard curriculum). The primary outcomes are the change from baseline at 3-year and 6-year follow-up in children's scores for knowledge, attitudes, and habits (KAH) and health factors (blood pressure, height, weight, waist circumference, and skinfold thickness). Secondary outcomes include 3-year and 6-year changes from baseline in lifestyle questionnaire scores for parents/caregivers and teachers, and in the school environment questionnaire. The overarching goal of the SI! Program is to provide an effective and sustainable health promotion program for the adoption of healthy behaviors in children. The present trial will address the impact and the optimal timing and duration of this educational intervention in the elementary school setting.     Association Between a Social-Business Eating Pattern and Early Asymptomatic Atherosclerosis.

    BACKGROUND: The importance of a healthy diet in relation to cardiovascular health promotion is widely recognized. Identifying specific dietary patterns related to early atherosclerosis would contribute greatly to inform effective primary prevention strategies. OBJECTIVES: This study sought to quantify the association between specific dietary patterns and presence and extent of subclinical atherosclerosis in a population of asymptomatic middle-aged adults. METHODS: The PESA (Progression of Early Subclinical Atherosclerosis) study enrolled 4,082 asymptomatic participants 40 to 54 years of age (mean age 45.8 years; 63% male) to evaluate the presence of subclinical atherosclerosis in multiple vascular territories. A fundamental objective of this cohort study was to evaluate the life-style-related determinants, including diet, on atherosclerosis onset and development. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of baseline data, including detailed information on dietary habits obtained as part of the overall life-style and risk factor assessment, as well as a complete vascular imaging study that was performed blinded to the clinical information. RESULTS: Most PESA participants follow a Mediterranean (40% of participants) or a Western (41%) dietary pattern. A new pattern, identified among 19% of participants, was labeled as a social-business eating pattern, characterized by a high consumption of red meat, pre-made foods, snacks, alcohol, and sugar-sweetened beverages and frequent eating-out behavior. Participants following this pattern presented a significantly worse cardiovascular risk profile and, after adjustment for risk factors, increased odds of presenting subclinical atherosclerosis (odds ratio: 1.31; 95% confidence interval: 1.06 to 1.63) compared with participants following a Mediterranean diet. CONCLUSIONS: A new social-business eating pattern, characterized by high consumption of red and processed meat, alcohol, and sugar-sweetened beverages, and by frequent snacking and eating out as part of an overall unhealthy life-style, is associated with an increased prevalence, burden, and multisite presence of subclinical atherosclerosis.
