Study of Scintillator Strip with Wavelength Shifting Fiber and Silicon Photomultiplier

The performance of the 200×2.5×1200\times2.5\times1 cm3^3 plastic scintillator strip with wavelength shifting fiber read-out by two novel photodetectors called Silicon PhotoMultipliers (SiPMs) is discussed. The advantages of SiPM relative to the traditional multichannel photomultiplier are shown. Light yield and light attenuation measurements are presented. This technique can be used in muon or calorimeter systems.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure

Electrical conductivity of rocks at high pressures and temperatures

    Get PDF
The results of studies of the electrical conductivity in the most widely distributed types of igneous rocks, at temperatures of up to 1200 C, at atmospheric pressure, and also at temperatures of up to 700 C and at pressures of up to 20,000 kg/sq cm are described. The figures of electrical conductivity, of activaation energy and of the preexponential coefficient are presented and the dependence of these parameters on the petrochemical parameters of the rocks are reviewed. The possible electrical conductivities for the depository, granite and basalt layers of the Earth's crust and of the upper mantle are presented, as well as the electrical conductivity distribution to the depth of 200 to 240 km for different geological structures

Inclusive Gluon Production In High Energy Onium-Onium Scattering

    Get PDF
We calculate the inclusive single-gluon production cross section in high energy onium-onium scattering including pomeron loop effects. The resulting inclusive cross section is given by the k_T-factorization formula with one of the unintegrated gluon distribution functions depending on the total onium-onium scattering cross section, which includes all pomeron loops and has to be found independently. We discuss the limits of applicability of our result and argue that they are given by the limits of applicability of pomeron loop resummation approach. Since the obtained k_T-factorization formula is infrared divergent we conclude that, in order to consistently calculate the (infrared-finite) gluon production cross section in onium-onium scattering, one has to include corrections going beyond the pomeron loop approximation.Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures; v2: version accepted to Phys. The paper presents the results of studies intended to separate minerals by density in a heavy liquid. Chemical analysis found that the manganese content amounts to 16,32 % in the studied sludge sample. Manganese sludge was separated by specific gravity in M-45 heavy liquid (the aqueous solution of a complex salt of barium iodides and cadmium with a density of 3 000 kg/m3). The tailings sample was fractioned by specific gravity in the material with a particle size of -2,5 + 1,0 mm; -1,0 + 0,5 mm and -0,5 + 0 mm. The manganese content in the heavy fraction of 3 000 kg/m3 was 32,5 %. The manganese content in the light fraction varied from 1,7 to 2,5 %. Light fractions were represented by aggregates of quartz and calcite with manganese minerals. According to X-ray phase analysis, heavy fractions were mainly represented by minerals braunite, bixbyite, barite and hematite

Abstract The article presents peculiarities of changes of cytokine status in the dynamics of experimental cardiosclerosis in laboratory animals (white rats) with different resistance to hypoxia at stages of modeling of the disease (7, 14, 30 days of observation). It has been discovered that the development of experimental diffuse ischemic necrotic cardiosclerosis is accompanied by different degrees of increase of synthesis of IL-1β and IL-6 cytokines in blood serum depending on the sensitivity of animals to hypoxia and on the observation period.Increased level of IL-10 inblood serum in animals with high and medium resistance to hypoxia at all stages of the disease, and decreased level of IL-10 inblood serum in animals with low resistance to hypoxia are the main peculiarities of an anti-inflammatory response due to diffuse cardiosclerosis modeling

Processing of low quality ekibastuz coals ashes and natural diatomites to obtain alumina and foamed glass

    Get PDF
Analysis of technological solutions on complex processing Ekibastuz coals ashes displays efficiency of complex alkaline technologies. However their significant drawback is the necessity to utilize big volumes of alkaline-silicic solutions. This research demonstrates possibility of their rational utilization by using natural raw diatomites to obtain formed and pelleted foamed glass widely used in construction industry as a heat-insulating material. Based on the data from scientific literature and their own research the authors suggest an improved scheme of complex processing Ekibastuz coals ashes

Obtaining of strong chromium pellets with the use of a ferrosilicon-calcium binder

    Get PDF
The article presents the results of research on the synthesis of strong chrome pellets based on concentrates obtained by enrichment of chrome sludge. To obtain strong fired pellets from the concentrates, it is proposed to use a ferrosilico- calcium reagent as a binder, which makes it possible to increase the strength of the pellets by 2-3 times in comparison with the technology operating at “Donskoy Ore Mining and Processing Plant”. This excludes the supply of fluxing reagents during electric arc smelting of raw materials to high-carbon ferrochrome. Pellets from concentrates obtained during the processing of tailings from the Dubersay sludge storage have increased strength up to 5 330 N/pellet at a roasting temperature of 1 200 °C
