    Comparative study of an activity of rat spinal ganglion cells and PC12 cells on the surfaces modified with bioadhesive polymers

    We studied the adsorption of bioadhesive polymers (polyornithine, gelatin, laminin) on polystyrene surface by the use of dynamic light scattering. The contribution of biopolymers to resulting zeta potential of the modified surface was assessed. PC12 cells do not exhibit selective adhesion in the presence of foetal bovine serum. Polystyrene with adsorbed polyornithine promotes primary adhesion of PC12 cells cultured in serum-free medium with nerve growth factor. Subsequently adsorbed laminin induces spreading and differentiation of the cells into neuronal direction. Primary neurons isolated from rat spinal ganglion adhere preferentially on the polyornithine-modified surface. On the polyornithine-laminin surface neurons intensively form neuritis that correlates with proliferation of glial cells positive for S100 protein. The results show that PC12 cells and primary neurons exhibit similar response to surface material with the latter cells being more sensitive to this factor. Isolated cell culture can be used to study the relationship between neurite outgrowth and Schwann cells proliferation on different biomaterials

    Лечение МР РМЖ (или первично иноперабельного РМЖ) складывается из предоперационного лечения, местного лечения (операция или лучевая терапия (ЛТ), или сочетание ЛТ с операцией) и адъювантной терапии. Предоперационная ПХТ впервые была использована для лечения МР РМЖ c целью перевода процесса в операбельное состояние и увеличения продолжительности жизни пациенток. Необходимость начинать лечение МР РМЖ с ПХТ продемонстрировали A. Fourquet et al. Преимущества лечения, включающего на первом этапе ПХТ, представили также V. F. Semiglazov et al.     There was held the research in the branch of using the control-studying multimedia programs in Surgery. The effectiveness of these programs in Surgery was checked during the research among the students of the "Medical Affair" department. The research took place during 2005-2010. 658 students from the "Medical Affair" department took part in the experiment. 350 of them were the students of the control groups and 328 - were the students of the experimental groups.The experimental work showed that the results in the experimental groups were higher than in control ones. Student of the experimental groups improved their knowledge, abilities and professional skills in Surgery. The students of experimental groups improved their analytic, synthetic and logical capabilities.Проведені дослідження із використанням навчально-контролюючих мультимедійних програм із хірургії. У процесі цього дослідження перевірено ефективність використання даних програм при вивченні хірургії на відділенні «Лікувальна справа». Дослідження проводили протягом 2005 — 2010 навчальних років. Експериментом було охоплено 658 студентів відділення «Лікувальна справа», з них 330 — студенти контрольних і 328 — експериментальних груп.Експериментальна робота показала, що результати у експериментальних групах виявилися вищими за аналогічні результати у контрольних групах, а саме підвищилися рівні засвоєння знань, опанування професійними вміннями та навичками. У студентів експериментальної групи покращилися аналітичні, синтетичні та логічні здібності

    Voting 'against all' in postcommunist Russia

    Since the early 1990s voters in Russia (and most of the other post-Soviet republics) have been offered the opportunity to vote ‘against all’ parties and candidates. Increasing numbers have done so. The evidence of two post-election surveys indicates that ‘against all’ voters are younger than other voters, more urban and more highly educated. They do not reject liberal democracy, but are critical of the contemporary practice of Russian politics and find no parties that adequately reflect their views. With the ending of the ‘against all’ facility in 2006 and other changes in the Russian electoral system under the Putin presidency, levels of turnout are likely to fall further and the protest vote will seek other outlets within or outside the parliamentary system

    Virtual-pion and two-photon production in pp scattering

    Two-photon production in pp scattering is proposed as a means of studying virtual-pion emission. Such a process is complementary to real-pion emission in pp scattering. The virtual-pion signal is embedded in a background of double-photon bremsstrahlung. We have developed a model to describe this background process and show that in certain parts of phase space the virtual-pion signal gives significant contribution. In addition, through interference with the two-photon bremsstrahlung background, one can determine the relative phase of the virtual-pion process

    Low-energy pions in nuclear matter and 2pi photoproduction within a BUU transport model

    A description of low-energy scattering of pions and nuclei within a BUU transport model is presented. Implementing different scenarios of medium modifications, the mean free path of pions in nuclear matter at low momenta and pion absorption reactions on nuclei have been studied and compared to data and to results obtained via quantum mechanical scattering theory. We show that even in a regime of a long pionic wave length the semi-classical transport model is still a reliable framework for pion kinetic energies greater than ~20-30 MeV. Results are presented on pion-absorption cross sections in the regime of 10 MeV < E(kin) < 130 MeV and on photon-induced double-pion production at incident beam energies of 400-500 MeV.Comment: 22 pages, 20 figures Replaced with a revised version.     Using a data sample of 6.8 pb1^{-1} collected with the CMD-3 detector at the VEPP-2000 e+ee^+e^- collider we select about 2700 events of the e+eppˉe^+e^- \to p\bar{p} process and measure its cross section at 12 energy ponts with about 6\% systematic uncertainty. From the angular distribution of produced nucleons we obtain the ratio GE/GM=1.49±0.23±0.30|G_{E}/G_{M}| = 1.49 \pm 0.23 \pm 0.30

    The process e+eK+Kπ+πe^+e^- \to K^+K^-\pi^+\pi^- has been studied in the center-of-mass energy range from 1500 to 2000\,MeV using a data sample of 23 pb1^{-1} collected with the CMD-3 detector at the VEPP-2000 e+ee^+e^- collider. Using about 24000 selected events, the e+eK+Kπ+πe^+e^- \to K^+K^-\pi^+\pi^- cross section has been measured with a systematic uncertainty decreasing from 11.7\% at 1500-1600\,MeV to 6.1\% above 1800\,MeV. A preliminary study of K+Kπ+πK^+K^-\pi^+\pi^- production dynamics has been performed
