    AI in the Indian Armed Services: An Assessment

    This article surveys the extent to which service doctrines as well as the Joint Doctrine of the Indian Armed Forces (JDIAS) capture anddefine the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Indian military. The analysis captures the limited view and non-existent view of AIwithin service and tri-service doctrine. A gap has emerged between the services’ doctrinal pronouncements and the actual use of AI in some form in the three branches of the military. AI come in two variants at least—semi-autonomous and autonomous systems. This ensuing assessment is only a partial critique of how service doctrine sees or ignores AI, the problem relating to the use of technology and doctrine is not unique to the services, but extends to other areas

    Reusable Garbled Circuit Implementation of AES to Avoid Power Analysis Attacks

    Unintended side-channel leaks can be exploited by attackers and achieved quickly, and using relatively inexpensive equipment. Cloud providers aren’t equipped to provide assurances of security against such attacks. One most well-known and effective of the side-channel attack is on information leaked through power consumption. Differential Power Analysis (DPA) can extract a secret key by measuring the power used while a device is executing the any algorithm. This research explores the susceptibility of current implementations of Circuit Garbling to power analysis attacks and a simple variant to obfuscate functionality and randomize the power consumption reusing the garbling keys and the garbled gates. AES has been chosen as an example. The first task is to implement the garbled variants of basic logic gates in hardware (RTL design) using Circuit Garbling. The second task is to use the above created gates and create an RTL implementation of AES using Verilog HDL. The next task is to perform a Differential Power Analysis(DPA) on this circuit and evaluate its resilience to attack

    Pattern of skin diseases in rural population: a cross sectional study at Medchal mandal, Rangareddy district, Telangana, India

    Background: The skin diseases are affected by various factors. The rural population is more vulnerable because of illiteracy. Therefore an attempt has been made to screen the population of five villages to know pattern of skin diseases. Aims of the study were to assess the prevalence of skin diseases, determine the pattern of skin diseases in the study population in rural community of Medchal mandal and compare previous studies so that inferences can be drawn for the benefit of society.Methods: The study was aimed to include the total population of 5930 consisting of 5 villages. The present study was carried out during a period of one and half year in 5 villages of Medchal mandal. The total population of all the 5 villages comprises of 7726, out of which 5930 persons participated in the present study. In all villages house to house survey was done. A complete dermatological assessment of the study population was done and findings were recorded on the standard study proforma.Results: The total number of 5930 persons was screened during the period of study. Among which 1172 (19.76%) persons were noted to have skin diseases. out of which 533 (45.48%) were males and 639 (54.52%) were females. The majority of population with skin disease was in the age group of 31-40 years with 289 cases (24.65%) and least in 71-80 age groups with 7 cases (0.59%). The prevalence of Non-infectious diseases (705 cases, 60.15%) was more than that of Infectious diseases (467 cases, 39.85%). Among non-infectious conditions Eczema / Allergy was the common disease followed by Pigmentary disorders other conditions like alopecia areata, seborrheic dermatitis and senile xerosis, Papulosquamous disorders, acne and acneiform dermatoses, polymorphous light eruptions and bite and stings, Eczemas followed by lichen simplex chronicus and allergic contact dermatitis. Among infectious conditions, bacterial infections were most common diseases followed by parasitic infestations, fungal infections and viral infections. Among Bacterial infections, secondary Pyodermas followed by folliculitis, impetigo and furunculosis. Based on occupation the majority of population was in the students followed by farmers, labour other than agriculture, housewives and petty business. Based on education, the majority of population was in the primary group (class 1 to 5) followed by secondary (class 6 to 8) and high school and above.Conclusions: Based on the outcome of this study, the common skin problems existing in this area are to be carefully looked for and health education regarding the hygiene, nutrition and healthy life styles is to be stressed for better standard of living by the rural population

    Design and implementation of a web based shop floor control system to maintain schedule feasibility in a dynamic job shop environment

    The effective control of production activities in dynamic job shop with predetermined resource allocation for all the jobs entering the system is a unique manufacturing environment, which exists in the manufacturing industry. In this thesis a framework for an Internet based real time shop floor control system for such a dynamic job shop environment is introduced. The system aims to maintain the schedule feasibility of all the jobs entering the manufacturing system under any circumstance. The system is capable of deciding how often the manufacturing activities should be monitored to check for control decisions that need to be taken on the shop floor. The system will provide the decision maker real time notification to enable him to generate feasible alternate solutions in case a disturbance occurs on the shop floor. The control system is also capable of providing the customer with real time access to the status of the jobs on the shop floor. The communication between the controller, the user and the customer is through web based user friendly GUI. The proposed control system architecture and the interface for the communication system have been designed, developed and implemented

    PYODERMA GANGRENOSUM SECONDARY TO TAKAYASU'S ARTERITIS

    Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is an uncommon & noninfectious neutrophilic dermatosis commonly associated with underlying systemic disease in more than 50% of cases. About 20-30% of cases are commenced and aggravated by minor trauma or surgery, a phenomenon named pathergy. PG is associated with many systemic diseases, but association with Takayasu's arteritis (TA) / pulseless disease, which is chronic inflammatory and stenotic disease of large sized arteries is less common. These conditions responded well with systemic corticosteroids. The association of PG with TA has been less reported in the literature so far.     HELLP syndrome on the rise: a major cause of maternal deaths

    Background: In the recent years, 2021 to 2022, there has been a sudden rise in the number of HELLP syndrome cases admitted to Modern Government Maternity Hospital, (MGMH) / Osmania Medical College. There were maternal deaths due to complications secondary to HELLP syndrome. Complications like placental abruption, DIC, PPH, PRAKI, pulmonary edema, were responsible for maternal deaths. The need for blood products has increased enormously. In our earlier study of eclampsia and imminent eclampsia from the same Institute, during 2004 to 2007, we did not find HELLP syndrome to be a major cause of maternal deaths. Hence, we proceeded with in depth study of the complications, morbidity and mortality and some management issues related to HELLP syndrome. All 70 cases of HELLP in this study had associated Preeclampsia/eclampsia.Methods: This is a prospective analytical observational study of 70 cases of HELLP syndrome.Results: Recurrent preeclampsia was noted in 6÷45=13.33%. Cases of hypothyroidism were observed in 6÷45=13.33%. There were four sets of twins, 8.88%. Placental abruption was noted in 10/70 women with HELLP, 14.28%, DIC occurred in 15÷70=21.42%, PPH occurred in 11÷45 cases, 24.44%, PRAKI was recorded in 16/70 patients, 22.85%, Pulmonary edema occurred in 5/70, 7.14%, PPCM in cases with HELLP syndrome were 2÷70=2.85%, Abdominal delivery was needed in 53÷70=75.71%, Maternal mortality in the present study was10÷70=14.28%, The perinatal mortality was 21.33%. Blood products were needed in 22/45 cases, (9.136) units on the average.Conclusions: Dissemination of knowledge that immediate delivery should be planned in all cases of HELLP, irrespective of gestational age is the need of the hour. Postponing delivery would lead to complications

    Inaccuracies in prediction of circulating viral strain genotypes and the possibility of novel reassortants causing a pandemic outbreak necessitate the development of an anti-influenza vaccine with increased breadth of protection and potential for rapid production and deployment. The hemagglutinin (HA) stem is a promising target for universal influenza vaccine as stem-specific antibodies have the potential to be broadly cross-reactive towards different HA subtypes. Here, we report the design of a bacterially expressed polypeptide that mimics a H5 HA stem by protein minimization to focus the antibody response towards the HA stem. The HA mini-stem folds as a trimer mimicking the HA prefusion conformation. It is resistant to thermal/chemical stress, and it binds to conformation-specific, HA stem-directed broadly neutralizing antibodies with high affinity. Mice vaccinated with the group 1 HA mini-stems are protected from morbidity and mortality against lethal challenge by both group 1 (H5 and H1) and group 2 (H3) influenza viruses, the first report of cross-group protection. Passive transfer of immune serum demonstrates the protection is mediated by stem-specific antibodies. Furthermore, antibodies indudced by these HA stems have broad HA reactivity, yet they do not have antibody-dependent enhancement activity
