Abstract: Analysis of the influence of the dollar exchange rate (US), interest rates, inflation and the price index of regional shares of the Indonesia Composite Index in the period January 2001 - December 2014. This study aims to investigate empirically the effect of macroeconomic variables, namely: exchange rates, inflation rates, interest rates on certificates of Bank Indonesia, as well as the Regional Stock Index is Nikkei index and the Hang Seng Index on Indonesia Composite Index in Indonesia Stock Exchange. The analysis technique used is multiple regression. The study found that only the exchange rate of US $, BI rate, Nikeei Index and the Hang Seng Index and which significantly affect the IDX, while the inflation rate, no effect on the Indonesia Composite Index. This study used three macroeconomic variables, so that further research needs to find other macroeconomic variables are supposed to influence the Indonesia Composite Index

It is early Sunday morning, 4 February 1990. A South Korean ferry, accompanied by a lone Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy Sea Hawk fast attack gunboat, proceeds slowly in choppy seas on a routine resupply run toward the island of Paengnyong Do, one of the five precariously situated Northwest Islands

Development of a model to calculate mechanical specific energy for air hammer drilling systems

Drilling for hydrocarbons is an expensive operation; consequently operators try to save costs by reducing the number of days spent during this operation. Drilling efficiently with the highest attainable rate of penetration is one of the ways drilling time could be reduced. Real-time monitoring of Mechanical Specific Energy will enable drilling engineers to detect when the optimum drilling rate for a given set of drilling parameters is not being achieved. Numerous works have been done on air hammers and rock Mechanical Specific Energy. Previous research has shown that Mechanical Specific Energy, which is a ratio that quantifies the input energy and Rate of Penetration (ROP) of a drilling system, is directly proportional to the rock compressive strength being drilled. The Mechanical Specific Energy model utilizes drilling parameters such as ROP, Weight on bit (WOB), RPM, torque, flow-rate, bottom-hole pressure, and bottom-hole temperature to show how effectively energy being put into the drill string is being converted to ROP at the bit. This research effort proposes a new model to calculate the Mechanical Specific Energy for air hammer drilling systems. A thermodynamic model for the air hammer from which the piston impact velocity and kinetic energy is obtained is presented. To be able to estimate the effective energy delivered to the rock by the hammer, the stress wave propagation model is used and factored into the Mechanical Specific Energy model. The Mechanical Specific Energy values obtained from the application of this model provide a qualitative indicator of formation pressure changes and a means for drilling engineers to detect when optimum drilling rate is not being achieved. It can be deduced from the model that the impact energy of the hammer is greatly affected by the pressure drop across the hammer and since the hammer accounts for about sixty percent of the energy required for destroying the rock, the ROP can be varied by varying the pressure drop across the hammer

Oral Glucose Tolerance Test among Adolescents with Impaired Fasting Blood Glucose

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is emerging as a major health problem even amongst children and adolescents. The onset is usually preceded by period of impaired glucose metabolism known as Impaired Fasting Glucose (IFG) and or Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT). This study is aimed at determining the presence of impaired glucose tolerance in adolescents aged 10 to 19 years with impaired fasting glucose.Methodology: Oral glucose tolerance test was done for a cohort of 68 adolescents aged 10 to 19 years with impaired fasting blood glucose detected at a school screening. Age, sex, anthropometric measures (height, weight, BMI and BMI percentiles were determined using appropriate methods. Blood pressure and family history of DM was determined. IGT was determined as a two hour post glucose load blood glucose value of> 7.8mmol/l and< 11.1mmol/l.Result: The mean age of the subjects was 15.08 ± 2.03 years. There were 23 (33.8%) males and 45 (66.2%) females, giving a male to female ratio of 1:2. Thirteen (19.1%) were overweight/obese, 16 (23.5%) had family history of diabetes mellitus and 17(25%) had hypertension. Seven (10.3%) of the subjects had impaired glucose tolerance and no case of diabetes. The mean BMI and fasting blood glucose value was higher in subjects with impaired glucose tolerance compared to those without. There was no statistically significant difference in prevalence of hypertension, overweight/obesity and hypertension in group with or without impaired glucose tolerance. Conclusion: There was no concordance in occurrence of IFG and IGT. Mean fasting blood glucose and mean BMI was higher in those with both IFG and IGT. Screening for only IGT will therefore miss subjects with IFG.Keywords: Oral Glucose Tolerance Test; Impaired Fasting Blood Glucose; Adolescents; Nigeri

The natural gas sector in Tanzania : suggestions for a better framework to benefit the country

    Get PDF
The Possession of a resource such as natural gas can be a great source of revenue for any Country. Since the discovery of natural gas in Tanzania, a lot of developmental activities have been underway with respect to this sector by foreign investors. The Country ought to be properly prepared with these interactions between its Government and the foreign investors by setting out the best framework for these activities. The proper framework will ensure that the Government remains in control of the Sector and properly benefits from the same in order to increase revenue and subsequently meet its developmental goals. This thesis considers the history of the Tanzanian natural gas Sector in brief, considers the current legal instruments governing the rights of obligations of both the investors and the Government namely: the production sharing agreements and the licensing regime. The Author criticizes the current regime for not being able to fully protect the interest of the host Government which alternatively gives the investor an added advantage over the resources belonging to the Country. The Author proposes the usage of the service contract regime in some of the natural gas contracts and suggests factors that ought to be considered whilst negotiating natural gas contracts in order to tackle the inadequacies of the current regime
