A cross‑country configurational approach to international academic mobility: exploring mobility effects on academics’ career progression in EU countries
This study takes a novel perspective on mobility as career script compliance to explore
the factors that might influence how mobile academics in a country perceive the impact
of international mobility on their overall academic career progression and job options. We
conduct a country-level qualitative comparative analysis on a sample of 24 European Union
(EU) countries, based on data from European Commission’s MORE3 indicator tool. We
find that these perceptions about the impact are shaped by the dominant patterns of mobility
in that country, and the general perception of academics in that particular country that
international mobility is rewarded in the institutional promotion schemes. This study introduces
new explanatory factors for the career script for international mobility. In so doing,
we provide a richer understanding of how countries might influence academics’ mobility,
which sheds light on previous inconclusive empirical evidence linking international mobility
and academics’ careers. Our findings have implications for the policy design of international
mobility and open up new lines of inquiry for cross-country comparisons.Center for Forestry Research & Experimentation (CIEF)

Bricolage and growth in social entrepreneurship organisations
This paper explores the role of bricolage in the growth of social entrepreneurship organisations (SEOs). Building on the premises that (1) bricolage is based on the resources at hand and the subjective perspectives that individuals have of these resources, and (2) the characteristics of the top management team (TMT) are an indicator of the resources they make available to the organisation and their ability to put different perspectives into play to interpret resource environments, we seek to determine which configurations of resource endowment, autonomy in the use of resources, TMT diversity and bricolage promote organisational growth. Using a fuzzy-set theoretical technique (fsQCA), we show that the effect of bricolage on organisational growth is contingent on the availability of resources, the degree of autonomy in using these resources and TMT diversity in organisational tenure. Our findings also indicate that TMT gender diversity is not a relevant condition to the growth of SEOs that use bricolage and that TMTs incorporating members with differing levels of previous experience in for-profit organisations exert a negative impact on organisational growth.Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness [ECO2012-36053] and Andalusian Department of Economy, Innovation and Science [P12-SEJ-2396]

Designing successful internships: exploring the role of duration, formalization and motivational practices
This study aims to shed light on how internships’ features drive employability outcomes and
answers the question of how internships that maximize the employability of interns can be designed. The study
assumes that the duration of an internship, degree of formalization and the use of internship-specific
motivational practices by companies are likely to influence interns’ perceptions of employability.
A study among interns investigated the relationship between different
internship features and interns’ employability. Data on the duration of the internship, motivational practices
specific to internships and the formalization of the internship process were collected from a large sample of
13,565 interns in 27 European countries from 15 to 35 years old.
The findings suggest that internship duration has a curvilinear effect on employability with
increasing effects on employability at the beginning of the internship, followed by a decrease over time. In addition,
the use of practices specifically designed to motivate interns also favors the interns’ employability. Finally,
formalization of the internship placement moderates the effect of motivational practices on employability
Entrepreneurship orientation in firms started by women: the influence of external relationships
Despite the significant development of the entrepreneurship literature, women
entrepreneurship remains an insufficiently studied field. The increasing weight of women in
labour market and greater participation in economic activities via entrepreneurial initiatives
demand more attention in specific issues of this group. The purpose of our work is to advance
in the analysis of businesses initiated by women, with a focus in the research of factors that
contribute to business consolidation. Based on a sample of 111 surveys to women
entrepreneurs, the present study analyzes the entrepreneurship orientation (EO) of womenowned
business, its relationship with the performance and the role of knowledge acquisition
from relationships with customers and collaborators. The results obtained, first, show that the
EO is positively related to different types of operational but not financial performance.
Second, knowledge acquisition from customers positively influences the EO, although this
relationship doesn´t occur with knowledge acquisition from collaborators. We find that
relations structure, growth orientation and new technologies adoption present also significant
relationships
The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the study of the factors and characteristics that may influence the entrepreneurial process, focusing specifically on the identification of entrepreneurial opportunities. Our study analyzes a sample of 241 Andalusian entrepreneurs that have driven one or several entrepreneurial opportunities.
ABSTRACT
The logic of effectuation argues that entrepreneurs create their businesses through a process of repeated action that is creative and unplanned, utterly contrary to causal logic or to the rational process put forward in the literature on entrepreneurship. In this study we focus on the use of effectual logic by academic entrepreneurs, i.e, university teachers or researchers who have founded a (research-knowledge based) university spin-off. Our research aims to analyze whether academic entrepreneurs engage in effectual behaviors in the process of creation and development of spinoffs. We analyze 16 cases of academic entrepreneurs from Spanish universities to obtain evidence of their effectual behavior. This study contributes to achieve a greater comprehension about how academic entrepreneurs transform their knowledge, experience, and the resources available in entrepreneurial opportunities. It also helps us better understand how different factors in the university context influence the practice of effectuation.
