Expecting the unexpected: COVID-19 in Kidney Transplant Recipients within United Network for Organ Sharing Region 1

There are numerous case reports and a handful of single center studies reporting on COVID‐19 in kidney transplant recipients. Most reports arise from the epicenters of where the SARS‐CoV‐2 virus was first detected such as New York City and Europe3. We in UNOS Region 1 experienced COVID‐19 weeks to a month later and questioned whether our experience was different. The programs within UNOS Region 1 have had a long history of sharing information in an attempt to mitigate the effect of viruses on our patients

MONTESQUIEU E O PODER NÃO-SOBERANO EM HANNAH ARENDT

As relações entre Arendt e Montesquieu são fundamentais para compreender adequadamente a noção de poder na pensadora alemã. Considerado por Arendt o último autor da tradição a refletir sobre formas de governo, Montesquieu foi também capaz de realizar uma revisão na tradição do pensamento político ocidental ao introduzir o conceito de “princípio de governo” em sua análise do espírito das leis que regem as formas de governo. Arendt viu o autor francês vinculado à tradição política romana, o que a possibilitaria de pensar a partir dele suas considerações sobre lei, poder, esfera pública, liberdade e não-soberania

RAHEL E A QUESTÃO JUDAICA: SEYLA BENHABIB E A GENEALOGIA DA MODERNIDADE EM ARENDT

Em sua obra de “The Reluctant Modernism of Hannah Arendt”, Seyla Benhabib faz o exercício de questionar a formação da concepção arendtiana de modernidade. Retornando à biografia de Rahel Varnhagen, a comentadora aponta para a experiência privilegiada dos salões berlinenses como referências mais interessantes para se pensar a esfera pública, derivando daí um possível universalismo moral de Hannah Arendt. Após expor esta tese de Benhabib, apontamos, em sentido diverso, para a impossibilidade deste exercício em Arendt, mostrando que os salões não poderiam se constituir como referência para a esfera pública por não favorecerem a atividade da ação

A construção política da identidade: um desafio feminista à distinção entre político e social

If Arendt´s habit of separating concepts allowed her to make important critiques of modernity and promoted a new questioning about the meaning of politics, it also gave space to serious critiques to the author's thought, from sexist to Hellenic nostalgic. In this sense, the most appropriate exercise an interpreter should do in order not to lose Arendt’s contributions to the contemporary political debate is to understand these distinctions avoiding a rigid comprehension of them. Authors such as Bonnie Honig and Hanna Pitikin launch interesting challenges to Arendt’s categories and make, out of them, a new and appealing reading of the conflicts of identity formation. This paper aims to show how an attitudinal and relational reading can give strength to Arendt´s distinctions, insisting on their capacity to trace the differences between social and political but, at the same time, attenuating them. Se o hábito arendtiano de separar conceitos possibilitou importantes críticas à modernidade e promoveu um novo questionamento sobre o sentido da política, ele também possibilitou duras críticas ao pensamento da autora, de machista a nostálgico helênico. Compreender as distinções de modo a evitar compreensões rígidas é o exercício mais adequado para não perder as contribuições de Arendt ao debate político contemporâneo. Nesse sentido, autoras como Bonnie Honig e Hanna Pitkin lançam um desafio interessante às categorias arendtianas, extraindo delas uma possibilidade de leitura muito rica através dos conflitos de formação da identidade. Neste artigo, pretende-se mostrar como uma leitura específica, atitudinal e relacional, pode dar fôlego às distinções de Arendt, atenuando-as, porém sem fazer com que elas percam sua capacidade de traçar características próprias ao político e ao social

ANALYSIS OF THE USABILITY AND ACCESSIBILITY OF WEBSITES IN VIEW OF THEIR UNIVERSAL DESIGN PRINCIPLES

Universal design is a strategic approach for planning and designing both the products and their environment, aimed at making a given product available to the widest number of possible users. It ensures equality for all of them and the opportunity to participate in the society. This concept is also crucial in the process of designing and developing software. The research was conducted with the use of four services, three of them were implemented for the purpose of this study. Two of them took into consideration the principles of universal design, while the others did not. The aim of the study was verification of the level of usability and accessibility of services by means of three independent methods: the LUT (Lublin University of Technology) checklist, an assessment taking into account WCAG 2.0 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) standards using the automatic WAVE evaluation tool (Web Accessibility Evaluation Tool) and a device allowing to track the movement of the eye while performing various tasks on websites. The websites were assessed by twenty experts in the field of creating web application interfaces, using the LUT checklist. The time to the first fixation (TTFF) that it took respondents to look at  specific website elements was measured using the eye tracker device and iMotions software. All websites were checked by means of the WAVE tool to detect irregularities and non-compliance with universal design standards. The analysis performed clearly indicated that websites that follow the universal design guidelines were more useful, intuitive and accessible for users. It might be concluded that interfaces allow to find necessary information and perform desired actions in a shorter time when prepared in accordance with the principles of universal design
