    A catalog of Nearby Poor Clusters of Galaxies

    A catalog of 732 optically selected, nearby poor clusters of galaxies covering the entire sky north of 3\rm -3^{\circ} declination is presented. The poor clusters, called WBL clusters, were identified as concentrations of 3 or more galaxies with photographic magnitudes brighter than 15.7, possessing a galaxy surface overdensity of 104/310^{4/3}. These criteria are consistent with those used in the identification of the original Yerkes poor clusters, and this new catalog substantially increases the sample size of such objects. These poor clusters cover the entire range of galaxy associations up to and including Abell clusters, systematically including poor and rich galaxy systems spanning over three orders of magnitude in the cluster mass function. As a result, this new catalog contains a greater diversity of richness and structures than other group catalogs, such as the Hickson or Yerkes catalogs. The information on individual galaxies includes redshifts and cross-references to other galaxy catalogs.     The Superiority of the Minimal Spanning Tree in Percolation Analyses of Cosmological Datasets

    In this work we demonstrate the ability of the Minimal Spanning Tree to duplicate the information contained within a percolation analysis for a point dataset. We show how to construct the percolation properties from the Minimal Spanning Tree, finding roughly an order of magnitude improvement in the computer time required. We apply these statistics to Particle-Mesh simulations of large-scale structure formation. We consider purely scale-free Gaussian initial conditions (P(k)knP(k) \propto k^n, with n=2,1,0 &+1n = -2, -1, 0 \ \& +1) in a critical density universe. We find in general the mass of the percolating cluster is a much better quantity by which to judge the onset of percolation than the length of the percolating cluster.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures included, uses mn.sty & epsf.sty.     A comparative study of oral tapentadol with thoracic epidural analgesia versus intravenous tramadol and paracetamol combination for postoperative analgesia in off pump CABG

    Background: Accurate management of post operative pain is quite impossible with single drug therapy approach. For this, our aim was to combine use of tapentadol tablet orally along with thoracic epidural in comparison with intravenous combined use of tramadol, paracetamol and diclofenac for postoperative analgesia in case CABG patients.Methods: 60 patients of CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery) randomly and equally divided into two groups. Group TTE (Tab. Tapentadol -Thoracic Epidural, n=30) were given oral Tablet Tapentadol through NG (Nasogastric) tube at the time of shifting the patient from Operation Theatre to postoperative ward along with Tramadol through Thoracic epidural catheter. In Group TPD (Tramadol -Paracetamol -Diclofenac, n=30) were given Inj. Tramadol, Inj. Paracetamol IV at time of shifting of patient. If pain score is too high (>4) then additional analgesia were given with Diclofenac only if preoperative renal and hepatic profile were normal. Patients were monitored for duration of rescue analgesia, total no. of doses of analgesics in first 72 hours, total consumption of analgesics and response to physiotherapy.Results: Duration of need of rescue analgesia was significantly longer in TTE group (p<0.05) while total no. of rescue doses were significantly more in group TPD (p<0.001). We also observed that patients of TTE group were recovered earlier, response to chest physiotherapy was significantly better and thus reduces their total length of ICU stay (p<0.05).Conclusions: Our study concludes that Tapentadol with Thoracic epidural is very much effective as a multimodal analgesia approach in controlling acute postoperative pain after CABG. Tapentadol is quite a newer drug so its usefulness for other patients and different surgeries is still to be debated

    A study of outcome of neuroparalytic snake bite patients treated with fixed dose of antisnake venom

    Background: Dhule district in Maharashtra (India) has snake bite as a common medical emergency. There are 168 villages in Dhule district and its majority of the population is engaged in farming and snakebite is a major occupational hazard particularly during the harvesting season. The available data on the epidemiology of snake bite from the here is sparse. Poisonous and nonpoisonous snake bites accounts approximately 30 admissions per month which increase to 35-40 admissions in rainy season in Civil Hospital. Methods: Fifty patients with severe neuroparalytic snake envenomation, resulting in acute type II respiratory failure, admitted to medical ICU for mechanical ventilation during one year period, were studied. Ventilatory requirements, amount of antisnake venom (ASV) infused, period of neurological recovery and hospital survival were evaluated. Results: 60% of patients affected were in the age group of 21-40 years. Maximum numbers of bites were during April to September (84%). All patients had severe manifestations such as ptosis, ophthalmoplegia, neck muscle weakness, limb and respiratory muscle weakness. 200 ml ASV was administered to all, along with atropine and neostigmine. Mechanical ventilation was required for a median duration of 26.60 hours. All victims in the study group survived with complete neurological recovery except one mortality for a patient who had suffered irreversible hypoxic cerebral injury prior to arrival in hospital and needed ventilatory support for 9.58 days. Conclusions: Timely institution of ventilatory support and fixed dose of 200 ml of ASV along with anticholinesterase treatment was sufficient to reverse neuroparalysis in severe elapid bites.

    Comparative study between interlock nailing and dynamic compression plating in humerus diaphyseal fractures in its functional and surgical outcome

    Background: The aim of the study was to analyse compare study between interlock nailing and dynamic compression plating in humerus diaphyseal fractures in its functional and surgical outcome. Methods: The 2019 to 2022, patients were randomly divided into two groups with the help of computer-generated coded envelopes, group A (humerus diaphyseal fractures treated with dynamic compression plating) and group B (humerus diaphyseal fractures treated with interlock nailing) with 20 patients in each group. Outcomes were evaluated based on operative time, blood loss, neurovascular deficit, surgical site infection, union, shoulder stiffness, constant Murley score, Mayo elbow performance index at 1 year of follow up. Results: On radiology as non-union and union, most common study participants show union, on follow up of 1 year constant Murley score and Mayo elbow performance index was calculated and constant Murley score was more in patients treated with dynamic compression plating, shoulder stiffness was more in patients treated with interlock nailing. However blood loss was more in patients treated with dynamic compression plating. Conclusions: The result of our study shows that interlock nailing is associated with less blood loss but it is associated with decreased shoulder function postoperatively and marked shoulder stiffness which is more than patients treated with dynamic compression plating. Hence dynamic compression plating should be considered gold standard for operative treatment of humerus shaft fracture

    In this article, we present our investigation of materialization of intentions using the input-output data based Six Sigma methodology for problem solving. The investigation is inspired by our respective Gurus, the wisdom of present and past seers, and the works of several scientists. We present two examples of materialization of intentions (change of pH and levitation). The pH example is preliminary requiring additional experimentation. We believe that the evidence presented is very supportive of the hypothesis of materialization of intentions. We hope this paper will contribute towards the unfolding of a Copernican-like revolution which will have profound positive impact on humanity

    Characterising anomalous transport in accretion disks from X-ray observations

    Whilst direct observations of internal transport in accretion disks are not yet possible, measurement of the energy emitted from accreting astrophysical systems can provide useful information on the physical mechanisms at work. Here we examine the unbroken multi-year time variation of the total X-ray flux from three sources: Cygnus X-1 , the microquasar GRS 1915+105 , and for comparison the nonaccreting Crab nebula. To complement previous analyses, we demonstrate that the application of advanced statistical methods to these observational time-series reveals important contrasts in the nature and scaling properties of the transport processes operating within these sources. We find the Crab signal resembles Gaussian noise; the Cygnus X-1 signal is a leptokurtic random walk whose self-similar properties persist on timescales up to three years; and the GRS 1915+105 signal is similar to that from Cygnus X-1, but with self-similarity extending possibly to only a few days. This evidence of self-similarity provides a robust quantitative characterisation of anomalous transport occuring within the systems
