    Get PDF
We present a content-based image retrieval system for plant image retrieval, intended especially for the house plant identification problem. A plant image consists of a collection of overlapping leaves and possibly flowers, which makes the problem challenging. We studied the suitability of various well-known color, shape and texture features for this problem, as well as introducing some new texture matching techniques and shape features. Feature extraction is applied after segmenting the plant region from the background using the max-flow min-cut technique. Results on a database of 380 plant images belonging to 78 different types of plants show promise of the proposed new techniques and the overall system: in 55% of the queries, the correct plant image is retrieved among the top-15 results. Furthermore, the accuracy goes up to 73% when a 132-image subset of well-segmented plant images are considered

Rosmarinic acid was isolated from ethanol extractions obtained from Prunella grandiflora L. and P. vulgaris L. The total phenolic content of ethanol fractions during isolation was determined by the Folin-Ciocateu method. The cytotoxic doses of the isolated rosmarinic acid were determined by WST-1 (Roche Applied Sciences, Mannheim, Germany) cell proliferation assay. A 10-60ng cytotoxic dose was determined for pancreas (PANC-1), prostate (PC-3), colon (HT-29) and breast (MDAMB 436) cancers and GBM (T98G) cell lines and lymphatic tissues. 24 and 48h incubation periods were applied during dose determinations. An antiproliferative effect was observed at the end of 48h incubation period with 50ng rosmaniric acid treatment in PC3 cell line and with 60ng treatment in PANC-1, HT-29, MDA-MB 436 and T98G cell lines. No cytotoxic activity of rosmarinic acid was observed in non-tumor cells.

II.

We present a content-based image retrieval system for plant identification which is intended for providing users with a simple method to locate information about their house plants. A plant image consists of a collection of overlapping leaves and possibly flowers, which makes the problem challenging. We studied the suitability of various well-known color, texture and shape features for this problem, as well as introducing some new ones. The features are extracted from the general plant region that is segmented from the background using the max-flow min-cut technique. Results on a database of 132 different plant images show promise (in about 72% of the queries, the correct plant image is retrieved among the top-15 results)

Unal, Aslihan/0000-0001-5896-8880WOS: 000475905800003The main purpose of this research is to examine the business-ethics perceptions of universities belonging to the Black Sea Universities Network by considering them as organizations and to define the activities, principles, and codes they adopt or don't adopt in the field. The population of the research consists of nine universities registered in the network. Data from online interviews with seven of the universities' secretary-generals and assistant secretary-generals and documents provided from these universities' official web sites have been used as the dataset. The semi-structured interview method has been followed in collecting the interview data. The interview form consists of 10 open-ended questions and is supported by probing questions; the form has not been strictly adhered to during the interviews. The interview data have been analyzed using qualitative content analysis following a deductive approach. The predetermined categories of ethical perceptions, activities and practices of universities on business ethics, and the principles and codes of business ethics were searched in the data. As a result of content analysis, universities have been identified as having inadequate ethical perceptions, four universities to have organized ethical committees, and three universities to have issued directives on business ethics

Effect of different kefir source on fermentation, aerobic stability and microbial community of alfalfa silage

    No full text
The present study has been one of the first attempts to thoroughly examine the effects of different kefir sources on fermentation characteristics, aerobic stability, and microbial communities of alfalfa silages. The effects of commercial kefir (CK) and homemade kefir culture (HK) applied with untreated a common control (CON) and three different application doses (5.0, 5.7, and 6.0 log cfu g?1) on wilted alfalfa and stored at an ambient temperature of 25–30 °C are studied. After 45 days of ensiling, fermentation characteristics and aerobic stability of silages were measured, and bacterial diversity was investigated by 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing using the GenomeLab™ GeXP platform. Both CK and HK accelerate more lactic acid production and reduced ammonia nitrogen concentration. Factor analysis of kefir sources suggests that the addition of kefir improves the aerobic stability of silages, even the initial water-soluble carbohydrate (WSC) content is inadequate via its antimicrobial effect on yeast and mold formation. Enterococcus faecium, Pediococcus pentosaceous, and Lactobacillus brevis were dominant bacterial species among the treated groups at silo opening, while Lactobacillus plantarum and Lactobacillus brevis became dominant bacterial species after 7 days of aerobic exposure. In conclusion, the application of kefir on alfalfa silages improves fermentation quality and aerobic stability even with low WSC content. © 2021 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland
