    Revisión de los Ammonoideos del Lías español depositados en el Museo Geominero (ITGE, Madrid)

    Se revisan desde el punto de vista taxonómico, los fósiles de ammonoideos correspondientes al Lías español que se encuentran depositados en el Museo Geominero. La colección está compuesta por ejemplares procedentes de 67 localidades españolas, pertenecientes a colecciones de diferentes autores. Se identifican los ordenes Phylloceratina, Lytoceratina y Ammonitina, las familias Phylloceratidae, Echioceratidae, eoderoceratidae, Liparoceratidae, Amaltheidae, Dactylioceratidae, Hildoceratidae y Hammatoceratidae y las subfamilias Xipheroceratinae, Arieticeratinae, Harpoceratinae, Hildoceratinae, Grammoceratinae, Phymatoceratinae y Hammatoceratinae correspondientes a los pisos Sinemuriense, Pliensbachiense y Toarciense

    Ontology Matching with CIDER: evaluation report for OAEI 2011

    CIDER is a schema-based ontology alignment system. Its algorithm compares each pair of ontology terms by, firstly, extracting their ontological contexts up to a certain depth (enriched by using lightweight inference) and, secondly, combining different elementary ontology matching techniques. In its current version, CIDER uses artificial neural networks in order to combine such elementary matchers. In this paper we briefly describe CIDER and comment on its results at the Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative 2011 campaign (OAEI’11). In this new approach, the burden of manual selection of weights has been definitely eliminated, while preserving the performance with respect to CIDER’s previous participation in the benchmark track (at OAEI’08)

    Effect of Lewis Acids on the Catalyst Activity for Alkene Metathesis, Z-/E- Selectivity and Stability of Tungsten Oxo Alkylidenes

The formation of labile adducts between the metal complex and the Lewis acid has been observed experimentally and suggested to be involved in the catalyst activity increase. In this contribution, DFT (M06) calculations have been performed to determine the role of Lewis acids on catalyst activity, Z-/E- selectivity and stability by comparing three W(E)(CHR)(2,5-dimethylpyrrolide)(O-2,6-dimesithylphenoxide) (E = oxo, imido or oxo-Lewis acid adduct) alkylidenes. Results show that the formation of the alkylidene-Lewis acid adducts influences the reactivity of tungsten oxo alkylidenes due to both steric and electronic effects. The addition of the Lewis acid on the E group increases its bulkiness and this decreases catalyst Z-selectivity. Moreover, the interaction between the oxo ligand and the Lewis acid decreases the donating ability of the former toward the metal. This is important when the oxo group has either a ligand in trans or in the same plane that is competing for the same metal d orbitals. Therefore, the weakening of oxo donating ability facilitates the cycloaddition and cycloreversion steps and it stabilizes the productive trigonal bipyramid metallacyclobutane isomer. The two factors increase the catalytic activity of the complex. The electron donating tuneability by the coordination of the Lewis acid also applies to catalyst deactivation and particularly the key β-hydride elimination step. In this process, the transition states show a ligand in pseudo trans to the oxo. Therefore, the presence of the Lewis acid decreases the Gibbs energy barrier significantly. Overall, the optimization of the E group donating ability in each step of the reaction makes tungsten oxo alkylidenes more reactive and this applies both for the catalytic activity and catalyst deactivation

    Manipulating the Mediator complex to induce naïve pluripotency

    Human naïve pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) represent an optimal homogenous starting point for molecular interventions and differentiation strategies. This is in contrast to the standard primed PSCs which fluctuate in identity and are transcriptionally heterogeneous. However, despite many efforts, the maintenance and expansion of human naïve PSCs remains a challenge. Here, we discuss our recent strategy for the stabilization of human PSC in the naïve state based on the use of a single chemical inhibitor of the related kinases CDK8 and CDK19. These kinases phosphorylate and negatively regulate the multiprotein Mediator complex, which is critical for enhancer- driven recruitment of RNA Pol II. The net effect of CDK8/19 inhibition is a global stimulation of enhancers, which in turn reinforces transcriptional programs including those related to cellular identity. In the case of pluripotent cells, the presence of CDK8/19i ef ciently stabilizes the naïve state. Importantly, in contrast to previous chemical methods to induced the naïve state based on the inhibition of the FGF-MEK-ERK pathway, CDK8/19i-naïve human PSCs are chromosomally stable and retain developmental potential after long-term expansion. We suggest this could be related to the fact that CDK8/19 inhibition does not induce DNA demethylation. These principles may apply to other fate decisions

    Low-cost variable-speed wind turbines design by recycling small electrical machines. Arrangement of permanent magnets in the rotor

    This paper describes the design of low-cost variable-speed wind turbines by recycling small electrical machines. In this way, electrical machines such as automobile claw-pole alternators, induction motors for domestic applications, or simply electric motors for some industrial applications are studied, considering their reuse as permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG) in small wind turbines or hydro-power turbines. The main purpose is the integration of hybrid energy conversion systems (wind and hydraulic turbines) in small stand-alone microgrids within the rural environment. Likewise, in order to optimize the design, the arrangement of the permanent magnets in the rotor is analyzed. The analysis has been carried out using the FluxMotor simulation software, which is based on the 2D finite element method. At the same time, the FEM software provides a lot of information about the optimization of the electrical machine and its multiple design options and topologies. Suggested designs have similar performance as well as a similar size and weight. The purpose has been to explore different topologies and select the most efficient designs. In this way, it is shown that it is possible to reuse an electrical generator easily, without losing much of the general performance. © 2022, European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ).     Ocean Wave Energy Converters: Analysis, Modeling, and Simulation. Some case studies

    Wave energy has much more potential and benefits than other forms of renewable energy. It is more predictable, consistent, and controllable than wind or solar energy. In this way, an adequate infrastructure can be an alternative and also sustainable system for power supply. In this paper, different wave energy conversion mechanisms (buoys, Pelamis, and oysters) have been described. These models are implemented and simulated using the Design Modeller, ANSYS-AQWA, and WEC-SIM applications. The purpose has been to develop a complete simulation of the wave energy converter and discuss its operation. The analysis has been developed in Matlab-Simulink and both regular and irregular waves have been considered. For this, an approximation to the linear waves theory has been used. The results obtained indicate the energy absorbed from the sea waves and also the energy supplied to the power grid. The simulation results estimated with the different WEC models are comparable to the results shown by other research papers. © 2022, European Association for the Development of Renewable Energy, Environment and Power Quality (EA4EPQ).     Modeling of a stand-alone solar photovoltaic water pumping system for irrigation

    Solar photovoltaic water pumping systems have been research topics in recent decades. The purpose was to develop much more profitable and efficient systems to meet the needs of pumping water for livestock and irrigation. This paper describes the design of a stand-alone photovoltaic water pumping system. A Boost converter is used to apply the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm. Similarly, a three-phase voltage source converter (VSC) is used to supply the asynchronous motor. The installation must provide a continuous water flow during the irrigation interval. It has been verified that in adverse weather conditions (cloud transits or partly cloudy) it is necessary to incorporate a decentralized-hybrid energy storage system (based on batteries or ultracapacitors), or excessively oversize the standalone photovoltaic system, to supply the water pump. The model has been simulated in Matlab-Simulink. In this way, different simulations have been developed to verify the basic characteristics of the proposed system. The results of the simulated model and the conclusions obtained are also presented in this paper

    Pitfalls in spontaneous in vitro transformation of human mesenchymal stem cells

    Spontaneous in vitro transformation of human primary cells was, and continues to be, a scarcely described phenomenon. Only the description of the generation of the HaCAT cell line [1] is a canonical example, worldwide accepted. More recent examples included the emergence of tumorogenic populations upon in vitro culture of fetal human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC), induced by GM-CSF and IL-4, [2] and bone marrow hMSC [3]. Other examples have also been reported after very long-term in vitro culture of telomerized hMSCTerT [4]. In this scenario, our previous results [5-7] were only a new observation to be added to this list. Only very recently similar results have been published [8], reporting spontaneous malignant transformation in 46 % of bone marrow–derived hMSC long-term cultures (5–106 weeks). However, other authors reported opposite results.S
