Píldoras formativas audiovisuales para el aprendizaje de programación avanzada

En este trabajo se propone la utilización de tutoriales audiovisuales de corta duración como un nuevo recurso formativo de gran atractivo para los jóvenes estudiantes, ampliamente familiarizados con este tipo de formato similar al utilizado en YouTube. Considerados como “píldoras formativas”, dichos tutoriales tienen como objetivo reforzar la comprensión de conceptos complejos de programación avanzada - concurrente y distribuida - que por su naturaleza dinámica pueden presentar una especial dificultad cuando solamente se utilizan materiales estáticos, como textos o diagramas. La generalización del uso de las plataformas de eLearning por los estudiantes de los nuevos grados, facilita la distribución en modo streaming de estos contenidos, que pueden ser visualizados en cualquier momento incluso desde dispositivos móviles.SUMMARY: The use of audiovisual, short-lived tutorials, is proposed here as a new educational resource very attractive for young students, widely familiar with this type of format similar to that used on YouTube.Considered "formative pills", these tutorials are intended to strengthen the understanding of complex concepts of advanced - concurrent and distributed - programming which by its dynamic nature could present a special challenge when only static materials as text or diagrams are used. Widespread use of e-learning platforms by the students of the new degrees facilitates the distribution mode streaming of this content that can be displayed at any time even from mobile devices.Peer Reviewe

Subtitled video tutorials, an accessible teaching material

The use of short-lived audio-visual tutorials constitutes an educational resource very attractive for young students, widely familiar with this type of format similar to YouTube clips. Considered as "learning pills", these tutorials are intended to strengthen the understanding of complex concepts that because their dynamic nature can’t be represented through texts or diagrams. However, the inclusion of this type of content in eLearning platforms presents accessibility problems for students with visual or hearing disabilities. This paper describes this problem and shows the way in which a teacher could add captions and subtitles to their videos

40 years of advances in Bariatric Surgery

Introduction: Bariatric surgical practice changes in the community setting may be under-reported. We present the developments in a Spanish bariatric surgical practice in the community setting of Alcoy from 1977 through the present. Methods: Bariatric surgical techniques employed in a country community setting over the course of nearly four decades were reviewed retrospectively and qualitatively. Results: Surgeons and medical professionals from Alcoy, Spain were involved in the evolution of bariatric surgery patient management and surgical technique from 1977s through 2017. During the last 40 years, 1,495 patients were treated in our clinics. Spanish bariatric surgeons contributed to advances in gastric bypass (GBP) in the 1970s, vertical banded gastroplasty (VBG) in the 1980s, bilio-pancreatic diversion/duodenal switch (BPD/DS) in the 1990s, and innovations associated with laparoscopy from the 1990s onward. Outcomes and approaches to prevention and treatment of bariatric surgical complications are reviewed from a community perspective. Contributions to the bariatric surgical nomenclature and weight-loss reporting are noted. Conclusions: The practice of bariatric surgery in the community hospital and private clinic must be updated continuously, as in any human and surgical endeavor. Medical professionals in community bariatric practices should contribute their experiences to the field through all avenues of scientific interaction and publication
