Discrete dipole approximation for time-domain computation of optical forces on magnetodielectric scatterers
We present a general approach, based on the discrete dipole approximation (DDA), for the computation of the exchange of momentum between light and a magnetodielectric, three-dimensional object with arbitrary geometry and linear permittivity and permeability tensors in time domain. The method can handle objects with an arbitrary shape, including objects with dispersive dielectric and/or magnetic material responses. © 2011 Optical Society of America
Coupled-dipole method in time domain
We present a time-domain formulation of electrodynamics based on the self-consistent derivation of the electromagnetic field in a linear, dispersive, lossy object via the coupled dipole method. © 2008 Optical Society of America
Discrete dipole approximation in time domain through the Laplace transform
We present a form of the discrete dipole approximation for electromagnetic scattering computations in time domain. We show that the introduction of complex frequencies, through the Laplace transform, significantly improves the computation time. We also show that the Laplace transform and its inverse can be combined to extract the field inside a scatterer at a real resonance frequenc
An Ultrawideband Time Reversal-based RADAR for Microwave-range Imaging in Cluttered Media
This work presents a new RADAR prototype built for the purpose of imaging targets located in a cluttered environment. The system is capable of performing Phase Conjugation experiments in the ultrawideband [2-4] GHz. In addition, applying the D.O.R.T. method to the inter-element matrix allows us to selectively focus onto targets, hence reducing the clutter contribution. We aim to experimentally explore the use of this focusing wave into an inversion algorithm, in order to improve its robustness against noise. Before testing this idea, we show here the first results validating the prototype separately in the frame of selective focusing via the DORT method and of multistatic-multifrequency inversion
TUTORIAL REVIEW Tomographic diffractive microscopy: basics, techniques and perspectives
Tomographic diffractive microscopy (TDM) is an advanced digital imaging technique, which combines the recording of multiple holograms with the use of inversion procedures to retrieve quantitative information on the sample. In this review, we discuss the basic theory of TDM in the framework of electromagnetism and draw a comparison with conventional widefield microscopes. We describe various implementations of TDM, highlighting their power of resolution. Finally, we present some research perspectives for increasing the potential of this promising new imaging modality
Preparation, structural characterisation and antibacterial properties of Ga-doped sol-gel phosphate-based glass
A sol-gel preparation of Ga-doped phosphate-based glass with potential application in antimicrobial devices has been developed. Samples of composition (CaO)(0.30)(Na2O)(0.20-x) (Ga2O3) (x) (P2O5)(0.50) where x = 0 and 0.03 were prepared, and the structure and properties of the gallium-doped sample compared with those of the sample containing no gallium. Analysis of the P-31 MAS NMR data demonstrated that addition of gallium to the sol-gel reaction increases the connectivity of the phosphate network at the expense of hydroxyl groups. This premise is supported by the results of the elemental analysis, which showed that the gallium-free sample contains significantly more hydrogen and by FTIR spectroscopy, which revealed a higher concentration of -OH groups in that sample. Ga K-edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure and X-ray absorption near-edge structure data revealed that the gallium ions are coordinated by six oxygen atoms. In agreement with the X-ray absorption data, the high-energy XRD results also suggest that the Ga3+ ions are octahedrally coordinated with respect to oxygen. Antimicrobial studies demonstrated that the sample containing Ga3+ ions had significant activity against Staphylococcus aureus compared to the control
