Tuner: a tool for designing and optimizing ion optical systems
Designing and optimizing ion optical systems is often a complex and difficult
task, which requires the use of computational tools to iterate and converge
towards the desired characteristics and performances of the system. Very often
these tools are not well adapted for exploring the numerous degrees of freedom,
rendering the process long and tedious, as well as somewhat random due to the
very large number of local minima typically found when looking for a particular
optical solution. This paper presents a novel approach to finding the desired
solution of an optical system, by providing the user with an instant feedback
of the effects of changing parameters. The process of finding an approximate
solution by manually adjusting parameters is greatly facilitated, at which
point the final tune can be calculated by minimization according to a number of
constraints.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures, to be published in Nuclear Instruments and

Neutron Correlations in the Decay of the First Excited State of 11Li
The decay of unbound excited 11Li was measured after being populated by a two-proton removal from a 13B beam at 71 MeV/nucleon. Decay energy spectra and Jacobi plots were obtained from measurements of the momentum vectors of the 9Li fragment and neutrons. A resonance at an excitation energy of âŒ1.2 MeV was observed. The kinematics of the decay are equally well fit by a simple dineutron-like model or a phase-space model that includes final state interactions. A sequential decay model can be excluded

But information are acquired only over limited areas or time periods. Thus, the next solutions shall be global and permanent, and shall process all available information to better manage and control all activities at sea. To best achieve this global surveillance of wide maritime areas without constraining the free access and commercial activities, tools are to be developed to automatically combine and process various types of information collected to continuously monitor the ship's traffic, the good flows and to detect criminal activities and threats (illicit goods flows, clandestine immigrants, piracy, accidents, etc.), and regulation violations
