Lavender essential oil is economically important and widely used in aromatherapy perfumery, food industry and pharmacy. Bulgaria is a global leader in lavender cultivation overtaking countries such as France, UK, China, India, and Spain during the last few years. The aim of this research is: 1) to characterize a lavender essential oil sample obtained from agricultural plantation near Pomorie, Bulgaria; 2) to perform descriptive statistical test based on a data set of 13 samples available in 4 publications, 3) to compare the varieties regarding the quantity of the most important components such as linalool and linalyl acetate 4) to summarize the pharmacological effects of the main components. As a result of GS/MS analysis of the essential oil sample obtained from agricultural plantation near Pomorie, we identified 44 compounds. The major constituents were linalyl acetate (27.5%) linalool (24.1%), E-β-ocimene (7.0%), terpinen-4-ol (5.1%) caryophyllene (4.5%), carvacrol (4.4%), lavandulyl acetate (3.5%), Z-β-farnesene (3.3%), and -Z-β-ocimene (3.2%). Linalool and linalyl acetate are the main ingredients based on which the quality of the essential oil is evaluated. In the studied samples they fluctuated between varieties depending on the year of extraction and the locations of origin in Bulgaria. Some varieties were characterized by a more stable ratio of linalool – linalyl acetate, compared to others. The main other components of our sample as well as the other examined Bulgarian samples fit the standards according to the requirements of ISO (2002) and the of European Pharmacopoeia (10th edn., Council of Europe 2020) with few exceptions. Lavender oil has numerous pharmacological applications based on its anxiolytic, sedative, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antitumor and antimicrobial activities. Although linalool and linalyl acetate largely contribute to these effects, the overall efficacy of lavender oil is proven to be due synergistic relationships between the components

Molecules of the title aminochalcone, C18H19NO4, are twisted, with a dihedral angle of 11.26 (6)° between the 4-aminophenyl and 2,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl rings. The conformations of the three methoxy groups with respect to the benzene ring are slightly different. Two methoxy groups are almost coplanar with the attached benzene ring [C—O—C—C torsion angles of −1.45 (19) and 1.5 (2)°], while the third is (−)-synclinal with the attached benzene ring [C—O—C—C = −81.36 (17)°]. In the crystal structure, molecules are stacked into columns along the b axis and molecules in adjacent columns are linked by N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds into V-shaped double columns. Weak π–π interactions are also observed, with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.7532 (8) Å

Saturated Fats: A Perspective from Lactation and Milk Composition

    Get PDF
For recommendations of specific targets for the absolute amount of saturated fat intake, we need to know what dietary intake is most appropriate? Changing agricultural production and processing to lower the relative quantities of macronutrients requires years to accomplish. Changes can have unintended consequences on diets and the health of subsets of the population. Hence, what are the appropriate absolute amounts of saturated fat in our diets? Is the scientific evidence consistent with an optimal intake of zero? If not, is it also possible that a finite intake of saturated fats is beneficial to overall health, at least to a subset of the population? Conclusive evidence from prospective human trials is not available, hence other sources of information must be considered. One approach is to examine the evolution of lactation, and the composition of milks that developed through millennia of natural selective pressure and natural selection processes. Mammalian milks, including human milk, contain 50% of their total fatty acids as saturated fatty acids. The biochemical formation of a single double bond converting a saturated to a monounsaturated fatty acid is a pathway that exists in all eukaryotic organisms and is active within the mammary gland. In the face of selective pressure, mammary lipid synthesis in all mammals continues to release a significant content of saturated fatty acids into milk. Is it possible that evolution of the mammary gland reveals benefits to saturated fatty acids that current recommendations do not consider

The purpose of the research is to identify the key trends in stylistic panorama of choral a cappella works of the late twentieth century. This article is devoted to the development of choral music a cappella in the East-Slavic countries (including Ukraine and Belarus). Among the major trends of contemporary choral singing there is a distinguishing phenomenon of tolerance of stylistic directions as a way to restore the genre image of choral works. The object of the study is choral music a cappella (academic direction). The subject of the research is figurative style guidelines of Belarusian and Ukrainian choral music a cappella. The methodological basis. In this study, we used analytical and comparative research methods and systematic approach. The latter enables to identify the place and role of certain components of choral music based on the single criterion - principle of simulation underlying music creation. The comparative method helps to make conclusions on the directions of choral music style development. Scientific novelty © Батовська О. M., 2016 of the proposed article consists in the fact that the study of choral works of a cappella composers of the last quarter of theXX - beginning of the XXI century in terms of identifying style simulation makes it possible to take into account the ratio of a new and traditional, individual and universal, in other words personal interpretation of the natural phenomena specific to the artistic canon. Conclusions. Summarizing the mentioned above information, we have made such conclusions. In modern modern East-Slavic countries a cappella choral music is one of the most difficult and controversial chapters of art history. Among the least studied problems a special place is occupied by the issues of the stylistic appearance of modern choral music a cappella. Contemporary a cappella choral music is characterized firstly by the individualcomposer's interpretation of the music modes of different artistic eras, secondly, by the stylistic direction tolerance. Aparticular sign of contemporary choral music is the dialogue that aims at combining different styles and understanding of diversity.
