    Differences in the nutritive composition of Dalmatian and Istrian prosciutto from different family agricultural holdings in the Republic of Croatia

    Dalmatinski pršut tradicionalni je proizvod seoskih gospodarstava, bez dodanog konzervansa i aditiva. Istarski pršut je trajni suhomesnati proizvod od svinjskog buta bez nogice, kože i potkožnog masnog tkiva sa zdjeličnim kostima, suho salamuren morskom soli i začinima, sušen na zraku i bez dimljenja. Cilj ovog istraživanja je odrediti kemijski sastav Dalmatinskog i Istarskog pršuta (udjeli vode, pepela, bjelančevina, masti i soli) i udjel pojedinih masnih kiselina. Kemijski sastav i udjel pojedinih masnih kiselina su dosta slični između Dalmatinskog i Istarskog pršuta. Dobiveni rezultati za dalmatinski i istarski pršut su u skladu sa Specifikacijama i rezultatima istraživanja drugih autora.Dalmatian prosciutto is a traditional product of rurable homesteads, with no preservatives and additives added. Istrian prosciutto is a durable, pig haunch cured meat without legs, skin and subcutaneous tissue with pelvic bones, dry brined with sea salt and spices, air-dried and without smoking. The aim of this research is to determine the chemical composition of Dalmatian and Istrian prosciutto (proportions of water, ash, protein, fat and salts) and the proportion of individual fatty acids. The chemical composition and proportions of fatty acids are quite similar between Dalmatian and Istrian prosciutto. The results obtained for Dalmatian and Istrian prosciutto are in accordance with the specifications and research results of other authors

    Hypertensive crisis as the first manifestation of renaldisease in children and adolescents: a report of three cases and review of the literature

    Introduction: Hypertensive crisis is a life-threatening condition, defined as severe hypertension complicated with acute target-organ dysfunction (mainly neurological, renal or cardiac). It rarely occurs in childhood and most children and adolescents who presents with hypertensive crisis symptoms have secondary hypertension, mainly of renal etiology. Case reports:We present the cases of three children with severe hypertension of different renal etiology who presented with the characteristic features of hypertensive emergency. Case 1 is a 11-year-old girl with reflux nephropathy who at admission had blood pressure (BP) as high as 250/200 mmHg. She was lethargic, with headache, vomiting and a 3-month history of weight loss. Case 2 is a 13-year-old boy with renal artery stenosis who had clinical presentation of generalized tonic-clonic seizures and BP 220/150 mmHg. Case 3 is a 9-year-old boy with chronic renal insufficiency of unexplained etiology and BP as high as 220/135 mmHg. This patient, like two others, presented dominantly with symptoms of hypertensive encephalopathy, aswell as signs of renal damage. All three patients have documented hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. In the patient who had renal artery stenosis, the removal of his dysplastic atrophic right kidney failed to normalize his blood pressure. Conclusion: We discuss the cases of unrecognized long-standing hypertension, with progression to malignant hypertension, as the first manifestation of renal disease – two with renal parenchymal disorders and one with renovascular disease. Hypertension is underdiagnosed in children and the purpose of these case reports is to raise awareness about it and point to the importance of routine careful measurement of blood pressure in pediatric patients

    U ovome radu obrađena je tema analize okoline poduzeća „Impol – TLM d.o.o.“ Da bi pobliže objasnili što je to točno okolina, trebamo prvenstveno definirati što je to menadžment i kakva je poveznica između njega i okoline. Menadžment možemo definirati kao proces, vještinu, znanstvenu disciplinu, profesiju ili funkciju u organizaciji, tj. nositelje određenih funkcija. Menadžment kao vještinu treba shvatiti kao sposobnost da se, više ili manje uspješno, obnašaju funkcije i uloge menadžmenta. Svatko tko u bilo kojoj organizaciji usmjerava posao drugih ljudi prema ostvarenju ciljeva organizacije može se zvati menadžerom. Okolina poduzeća je kompleksan pojam koji sadrži eksternu i internu okolinu. Eksternu okolinu poduzeća čine činitelji koji izvana utječu na poduzeće. Dijeli se na opću ili socijalnu okolinu i poslovnu okolinu ili okolinu zadatka. Opću ili socijalnu okolinu čine snage koje nisu pod utjecajem poduzeća, a trebamo ih promatrati i na njih reagirati. Poslovnu okolinu čine svi koji se nalaze u neposrednoj okolini poduzeća, a povezani su s njim. Poduzeće Impol – TLM se kroz ekonomska gledišta lako nosi s gospodarskom situacijom u zemlji, svi su ekonomski faktori zadovoljeni, te se poduzeće lako nosi s razvojem novih tehnologija koje utječu na poslovanje.Najveću prijetnju, ali ne i preveliku predstavljaju prirodna ili fizička okolina i socijalno – kulturna okolina o kojoj ovisi distribucija proizvoda koja je otežana u vremenskim neprilikama. Analizom poslovne okoline utvrđeno je kako najveći problem za poduzeće predstavljaju konkurenti i sindikati. Dobavljači i kupci su najbitniji segmenti i o njima najviše ovisi uspješnost poslovanja. SWOT analizom, došli smo do rezultata da poduzeće ima izražajnije interne snage i eksterne prilike u odnosu na interne slabosti i eksterne prijetnje.In this Bachelor Thesis, the Environmental Analysis of the company Impol-TLM d.o.o. has been processed. At first glance, we should define management so that the reader can better understand the term of environment itself. Management can be defined as the process, skill, science discipline, profession, or function within an organization, also known as “Holder of certain functions”. Management from a skill perspective should be considered as an aptitude observation of the functions and parts of the management. A manager can be proclaimed by any person that manages and leads other people’s business. Company environment is a complex term which contains both the external and internal einvironments. The external environment holds factors that have an impact on a company from the outside. It is divided in general or social environments, and business environment or environment of the tasks. General (or social) environement constitutes strengths that are not under supervision of the company, but should rather be observed and reacted by us in the most appropriate way. Business environment consists of any factor that is near proximity to the company and is related to it. Impol-TLM has been well surrounded by the economic situation of the country. All economic factors have been fullfilled and the company follows upcoming technologies that are related to its business. The biggest threat presents natural/or physical and socio-cultural environment which has an impact on distribution. The conclusion has been defined by the analysis of the business environment. The biggest problem for the company presents competition and trade unions. Suppliers and customers are the most important part, and because of them the success of the company is tenable. The SWOT analysis has provided results that show the company has more reliable internal strengths and external opportunities than the internal weaknesses and external threats

    U radu se prezentira utjecaj tehnologije velikih podataka na primjeru zdravstvenog sustava. Detaljnije se objašnjava sam koncept tehnologije kako bi se kasnije lakše shvatila primjena iste. Osim teoretskog dijela, u radu su prikazani i konkretni primjeri zdravstvenih aplikacija, te se detaljnije, s tehničkog aspekta objašnjava na koji način prezentirana tehnologija funkcionira. Prvotni rezultat rada bio bi prikazati na koji način suvremeni sustavi mogu unaprijediti svoje poslovanje koristeći aktualne tehnologije velikih podataka poput onih navedenih u radu (Map Reduce, Hadoop, Bigtable,…), a finalni da s pomoću tih istih tehnologija maksimiziraju profit i minimaliziraju troškove, uz što veći naglasak na kvalitetu usluge i što bolju skrb prema krajnjem korisniku, pacijentu.The thesis presents the impact of Big data technologies in the healthcare systems. In addition to the theoretical part, the thesis presents concrete examples of healthcare applications, and detailed explains the technical aspect of technology itself. The first reason of the thesis is to “put accent“ on which way can modern systems improve their business by using current Bigdata technologies such as Map Reduce, Hadoop, Bigtable, etc, and the final one is usage of the same technologies to maximize system’s profit and minimize system’s costs, with a bigger emphasis on the quality of service, and to provide as best as possible care for the end user, the patient

    The Effect of Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative and Postnatal Support on Breastfeeding Rates – Croatian Experience

    The effects of implementation WHO/UNICEF Breastfeeding Hospital Initiative (BFHI) and community postnatal support on breastfeeding rates were examined during and after the breastfeeding promotion campaign in one county of Croatia. Comparison with a control group indicated increase of breastfeeding prevalence in a period of BFHI implementation (1994–1998) – 68% vs. 87% at infant age 1 mo., 30% vs. 54% at 3 mo., 11.5% vs. 28% at 6 mo., and 2% vs. 3.5% at infant age 11–12 mo. (chi-square test, p < 0.05). More considerable increase has been noticed in period 1999–2000 which is characterized by breastfeeding support groups activity: 68% vs. 87% at infant age 1 mo., 30% vs. 66% at 3 mo., 11.5% vs. 49% at 6 mo., and 2% vs. 23% at infant age 11–12 mo. (chi-square test, p < 0.05). Our conclusion is that activities aiming to promote breastfeeding in maternity hospitals have had limited success. They have resulted in satisfactory increase of breastfeeding prevalence in early infant’s period, but for far-reaching effect postnatal support is also required
