Change in blood glucose level in rats after immobilization

Experiments were carried out on male white rats divided into four groups. In group one the blood glucose level was determined immediately after immobilization. In the other three groups, two hours following immobilization, the blood glucose level was determined every 20 minutes for 3 hours 40 minutes by the glucose oxidase method. Preliminary immobilization for 2 hours removed the increase in the blood glucose caused by the stress reaction. By the 2nd hour of immobilization in the presence of continuing stress, the blood glucose level stabilized and varied within 42 + or - 5.5 and 47 + or - 8.1 mg %. Within 2 hours after the immobilization, the differences in the blood glucose level of the rats from the control groups were statistically insignificant

According to official medical statistic data pulmonary diseases are the most frequent pathology in a polyclinic practice. The morbidity level for pulmonary diseases is 23 832 per 100 thousand of adult population in Kostroma region. The hospital admissions number for COPD patients is 800.9; the mortality of COPD is 58.3 per 100 thousand of adults. Eighteen per cent of fatal outcomes took place in COPD patients in hospitals and 82% were registered at home. Long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT) using oxygen concentrators was organized at home for 12 patients with COPD and severe respiratory failure. An average LTOT duration was 6.1 months, mean daily time was 15.25 hours, oxygen flow rate was 2 liters per minute. All the patients demonstrated the improvement in exercise capacity, the reduction of inhaled beta-agonists and oral glucocorticoids doses and hospitalizations numbers.По данным официальной медицинской статистики болезни органов дыхания занимают 1-е место в структуре заболеваемости по обращаемости. В Костромской области уровень заболеваемости болезнями органов дыхания составляет 23 832 на 100 тыс. населения. Уровень госпитализации по ХОБЛ составил 800,9, смертности — 58,3 на 100 тыс. населения. Только в 18% случаев летальные исходы от ХОБЛ наступали в условиях стационара и в 82% — на дому. Для улучшения качества медицинской помощи на дому пациентам с ХОБЛ и тяжелой дыхательной недостаточностью организовано отделение длительной кислородотерапии (ДКТ). ДКТ проводилась 12 пациентам на дому при помощи концентраторов кислорода “Зефир" (фирма ТАЕМА, Франция). Средняя длительность одного курса лечения составила 6,1 месяца, 15,25 часа вдень, содержание кислорода в подаваемом воздухе 93—97%, объем 2 л/мин. У всех пациентов отмечено улучшение качества жизни, уменьшение объема медикаментозной терапии и числа госпитализаций

Near 25,000 hospitalisations and more than 7,000 calls for the ambulance care regard to the pulmonary diseases at Kostroma region. The organisation of medical care for these patients in polyclinics and at home using long-term oxygen therapy and nebulized therapy provides good effect with less expenses.Необходимость организации специализированной пульмонологической помощи в поликлинике и на дому связана с высокой распространенностью болезней органов дыхания. В Костромской области 54 % всех обращений в поликлиники ЛПУ, около 25 тыс. госпитализаций, более чем 7 тыс. выездов бригад скорой медицинской помощи связаны с этой группой заболеваний. Организация специализированной пульмонологической помощи в условиях поликлиники и на дому с использованием длительной кислородотерапии, небулайзерной терапии позволяет обеспечить хорошее качество лечения при меньших финансовых затратах

Electrospun formulations of acyclovir, ciprofloxacin and cyanocobalamin for ocular drug delivery

Two series of fibers containing the active ingredients acyclovir, ciprofloxacin and cyanocobalamin, and combinations of these drugs, were prepared by electrospinning. One set used the hydrophilic poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) as the filament-forming polymer, while the other used the slow-dissolving poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL). The fibers were found to have cylindrical morphologies, although there was evidence for solvent occlusion with the PVP systems and for some drug particles in the PCL case. The active ingredients were generally present in the amorphous physical form in the case of PVP, but evidence of crystallinity was observed with PCL. The existence of intermolecular interactions between the drugs and polymers was proven using simple molecular modeling calculations. Drug release from the various fibers was tested in a validated in vitro outflow model of the eye, and the fiber formulations found to be capable of extending drug release. We thus conclude that electrospun matrices such as those prepared in this work have potential for use as intravitreal implants

Шестилетняя выживаемость больных с тяжелой дыхательной недостаточностью, получавших длительную кислородотерапию на дому

Long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT) improves survival of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) having severe respiratory failure and chronic hypoxemia. In our study 51 patients received LTOT at home via concentrators (34 males, the mean age, 65.5 ± 7.8 yrs; 17 females, the mean age, 62.8 ± 4.1 yrs). Of them, 37 (72.5 %) survived 6-year period and 14 died (13 males and 1 female). Causes of death were acute respiratory viral infection (in 1 patient), insult (in 1 patient), chronic heart and lung failure (in 12 patients). Survival of patients with chronic restrictive pulmonary diseases was not longer than 3 years. A control group included 45 COPD patients with severe respiratory failure not receiving LTOT (30 males, the mean age, 66.3 ± 8.5 yrs; 15 females, the mean age, 69.1 ± 4.6 yrs). Of them, 16 survived 6 years and 29 died (5 females, the mean age, 72.6 ± 3.6 yrs, 24 males, the mean age, 67.8 ± 5.2 yrs). So, LTOT at home improves survival of COPD patients with severe respiratory failure.Длительная кислородотерапия на дому (ДКТ) увеличивает выживаемость больных хронической обструктивной болезнью легких (ХОБЛ) с явлениями тяжелой дыхательной недостаточности и хронической гипоксемии. Курсы ДКТ на дому при помощи концентраторов кислорода получали 51 пациент (34 мужчины, средний возраст — 65,5 ± 7,8 лет; 17 женщин, средний возраст — 62,8 ± 4,1 года). В течение 6 лет выжили 37 (72,5 %) и умерли 14 пациентов (13 мужчин, 1 женщина). Причинами смерти были: острая респираторно вирусная инфекция (1), инсульт (1), нарастающие явления сердечно-легочной недостаточности (12). Выживаемость пациентов с заболеваниями легких, приводящими к реструктивным нарушениям функции внешнего дыхания, не превышала 3 лет. В контрольной группе пациентов наблюдались 45 больных ХОБЛ, не получавших ДКТ на дому (30 мужчин, средний возраст — 66,3 ± 8,5 лет; 15 женщин, средний возраст — 69,1 ± 4,6 года). В течение 6 лет умерли 29 пациентов, выжили 16 (35,5 %). Среди умерших были 5 женщин (средний возраст — 72,6 ± 3,6 года) и 24 мужчины (средний возраст — 67,8 ± 5,2 лет). Причинами смерти в контрольной группе были: инсульт (4), повторный инфаркт миокарда (4), нарастающие явления сердечнолегочной недостаточности (21). Заключение: ДКТ на дому увеличивает выживаемость больных ХОБЛ с явлениями тяжелой дыхательной недостаточности

INVESTIGATION OF THE UTILIZATION OPTION OF COOLING SYSTEMS’ LOW-POTENTIAL HEAT

В работе рассмотрен вариант утилизации низкопотенциальной теплоты систем охлажнения промышленного оборудования на примере многоступенчатых воздушных компрессоров, в которых осуществляется сжатие воздуха с одновременным его охлаждением в промежуточных охладителях и сбросом теплоты в окружающее пространство. Предложено использовать эту теплоту путем модернизации системы охлаждения с применением вихревого эффекта Ранке для выработки дополнительной электрической энергии в органическом цикле Ренкина.The paper considers a variant of utilization of low-potential heat of cooling systems of industrial equipment on the example of multistage air compressors, in which air is compressed with simultaneous cooling in intercoolers and heat discharge into the surrounding space. It is proposed to use this heat by upgrading the cooling system using the Ranke vortex effect to generate additional electrical energy in the organic Rankine cycle

AFRICAN SWINE FEVER EPIDEMIC IN 2007–2017 PART 1. COMMON TRENDS FOR ASF IN THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION AND IN EURASIA

Results of retrospective analysis of African swine fever epidemic situation in the Russian Federation including analysis of the epidemic chronology indicating significant events of the disease spread across the country territory are presented. Common ASF epidemic trend and rate in 2007–2017 in Eurasia territory based on number of infected countries (1.273 ± 1.272 countries/year) and in Russian Federation Subjects (4.5 ± 2.3 Subjects/year) are shown. The paper also addresses some peculiarities of the epidemic process depending on the season of a year. Possible social and biological factors contributing to the epidemic spread are examined. Necessity of further search for probable biological vector and examination of social factors that could contribute to the disease maintenance in wild life and in domestic pigs in the Russian Federation and Eastern European countries are discussed
