Change in blood glucose level in rats after immobilization
Experiments were carried out on male white rats divided into four groups. In group one the blood glucose level was determined immediately after immobilization. In the other three groups, two hours following immobilization, the blood glucose level was determined every 20 minutes for 3 hours 40 minutes by the glucose oxidase method. Preliminary immobilization for 2 hours removed the increase in the blood glucose caused by the stress reaction. By the 2nd hour of immobilization in the presence of continuing stress, the blood glucose level stabilized and varied within 42 + or - 5.5 and 47 + or - 8.1 mg %. Within 2 hours after the immobilization, the differences in the blood glucose level of the rats from the control groups were statistically insignificant

The traditional ophthalmological dosage forms have a low bioavailability, a rapid precorneal clearance and a low corneal permeability. The gelling system or system with a prolonged action (prolonged eye-drops) may be overcome by the application of fibers. An innovative dosage form was described for ophthalmology and perspective drug development. According to official medical statistic data pulmonary diseases are the most frequent pathology in a polyclinic practice. The morbidity level for pulmonary diseases is 23 832 per 100 thousand of adult population in Kostroma region. The hospital admissions number for COPD patients is 800.9; the mortality of COPD is 58.3 per 100 thousand of adults. Eighteen per cent of fatal outcomes took place in COPD patients in hospitals and 82% were registered at home. Long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT) using oxygen concentrators was organized at home for 12 patients with COPD and severe respiratory failure. An average LTOT duration was 6.1 months, mean daily time was 15.25 hours, oxygen flow rate was 2 liters per minute. Electrospun formulations of acyclovir, ciprofloxacin and cyanocobalamin for ocular drug delivery
Two series of fibers containing the active ingredients acyclovir, ciprofloxacin and cyanocobalamin, and combinations of these drugs, were prepared by electrospinning. One set used the hydrophilic poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) as the filament-forming polymer, while the other used the slow-dissolving poly(Ξ΅-caprolactone) (PCL). The fibers were found to have cylindrical morphologies, although there was evidence for solvent occlusion with the PVP systems and for some drug particles in the PCL case. The active ingredients were generally present in the amorphous physical form in the case of PVP, but evidence of crystallinity was observed with PCL. The existence of intermolecular interactions between the drugs and polymers was proven using simple molecular modeling calculations. Drug release from the various fibers was tested in a validated in vitro outflow model of the eye, and the fiber formulations found to be capable of extending drug release. We thus conclude that electrospun matrices such as those prepared in this work have potential for use as intravitreal implants

Long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT) improves survival of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) having severe respiratory failure and chronic hypoxemia. In our study 51 patients received LTOT at home via concentrators (34 males, the mean age, 65.5 Β± 7.8 yrs; 17 females, the mean age, 62.8 Β± 4.1 yrs). Of them, 37 (72.5 %) survived 6-year period and 14 died (13 males and 1 female). Causes of death were acute respiratory viral infection (in 1 patient), insult (in 1 patient), chronic heart and lung failure (in 12 patients). Survival of patients with chronic restrictive pulmonary diseases was not longer than 3 years. A control group included 45 COPD patients with severe respiratory failure not receiving LTOT (30 males, the mean age, 66.3 Β± 8.5 yrs; 15 females, the mean age, 69.1 Β± 4.6 yrs). Of them, 16 survived 6 years and 29 died (5 females, the mean age, 72.6 Β± 3.6 yrs, 24 males, the mean age, 67.8 Β± 5.2 yrs). It is proposed to use this heat by upgrading the cooling system using the Ranke vortex effect to generate additional electrical energy in the organic Rankine cycle
AFRICAN SWINE FEVER EPIDEMIC IN 2007β2017 PART 1. COMMON TRENDS FOR ASF IN THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION AND IN EURASIA
Results ofΒ retrospective analysis ofΒ African swine fever epidemic situation inΒ theΒ Russian Federation including analysis ofΒ theΒ epidemic chronology indicating significant events ofΒ theΒ disease spread across theΒ country territory are presented. Common ASF epidemic trend and rate inΒ 2007β2017 inΒ Eurasia territory based onΒ number ofΒ infected countries (1.273Β Β±Β 1.272Β countries/year) and inΒ Russian Federation Subjects (4.5Β Β±Β 2.3Β Subjects/year) are shown. TheΒ paper also addresses some peculiarities ofΒ theΒ epidemic process depending onΒ theΒ season ofΒ aΒ year. Possible social and biological factors contributing toΒ theΒ epidemic spread are examined. Necessity ofΒ further search for probable biological vector and examination ofΒ social factors that could contribute toΒ theΒ disease maintenance inΒ wild life and inΒ domestic pigs inΒ theΒ Russian Federation and Eastern European countries are discussed
