Understanding sensitive cultural through daily conversation in urban society in Makassar

    Get PDF
This paper aims to describe how sensitive cultural may be a pattern of words and actions that should be played according to social status. This sensitive culture is ideal for each ethnic group supporting the culture. If each does not play it according to its status, it can cause misunderstanding and even conflict. Therefore, the relationship between ethnicity, immigrants, and ethnic minorities needs to be sensitive to indigenous nationalities and dominant cultural understanding. The methodology used in obtaining the data uses a qualitative approach to data collection techniques: observation and interviews. The location of the research is Makassar City, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The results show that the city of Makassar, which is still dominated by a single ethnic group of the Bugis-Makassar to be ideal in inter-ethnic relations, uses interaction patterns of the pattern of the dominant ethnic culture or ethnic original. Thus, it should be understood by all ethnic groups who live in the city, whether its status as indigenous or tribal settlers, so that the inter-ethnic relations be harmonious. Makassar, a multi-ethnic city, is still dominated by ethnic Bugis-Makassar. At the same time, the original ethnic and cultural patterns become ideal interaction patterns in the city. As for ethnic immigrants, for example, ethnic Toraja, Mandar, Java, Ambon, Papua New Guinea, NTT, NTB, Batak, Padang, Chinese, Arabic, Padoe, and others, must understand its status as an immigrant minority, must be adaptive and be accepted in its interaction with the ethnic dominant. Therefore, as ethnic immigrants in the exchange must follow the pattern of interaction patterns in one's ideals by the dominant ethnic group, whether it be words or actions, said eg Iye, iyo, ba, iya, tabe, kita, kau, daeng, katte. Besides that, there are also rude words, namely tai laso or tai baro, nassundala’, and suntili’. It is undoubtedly susceptible when there are ethnic immigrants who do not language and act as the dominant culture because it can be considered not adaptive or do not respect an indigenous culture as a manifestation of the ideal of the dominant ethnic groups

eat exchangers are widely used by many industries such as petrochemical, power generation, and oil and gas industries. The safety while operating heat exchanger is heavily concerned. Hazard of heat exchanger especially in those industries may end up with risk related issues. Many companies nowadays apply the conditionbased inspection programs whereby the bundle life is predicted by analyzing the history of each exchanger bundle since the service start date. As the result, the financial consequences will not be considered associated with the bundle life while analyzing the reliability of the exchanger. Thus, an effective risk assessment model is required to assess failures associated with heat exchanger and to achieve plant availability and efficiency. This study presents the development of a risk-based inspection model for heat exchanger. The project is carried out to assist operator/user that operates heat exchanger to develop a customized maintenance optimization tool for selecting cost effective and appropriate maintenance and inspection tasks and techniques in determining the risk level of mode of failures associated with the heat exchanger. A comprehensive literature review related to the project topic is carried out from several journals and books available and being analyzed which consist of the overview of the Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) model, analysis of some of the existing RBI model, the overview of heat exchanger, description and analysis of currently used semi-quantitative risk assessment matrix method and the application of Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic Applications (VBA) in developing RBI model. Apart from that, Weibull distribution will be discussed further to understand its use in determining the probability of failure through life data analysis. The application of Microsoft Excel is proposed to ease the process of inspection by using the developed RBI model. Then, the program built will be validated with several available software in the market such as Weibull++ and RBI developed by Reliasoft Corp. The sample of validated historical data of inspection of heat exchanger from API RBI will be used to justify the risk level for each failures associated by applying the life data analysis. The scope of study for this research include establish the life data analysis by using Weibull analysis, analyze the risk value associated with several modes of failure and propose the inspection plan based on the result of analysis

This study aims to (1) determine the amount of Willingness to Pay (WTP) for halal chicken meat (DA), and (2) the characteristics of halal chicken consumers who are willing to pay the WTP price. A total of 50 halal chicken consumers taken from 2 traditional markets were interviewed as respondents. To determine WTP, a hypothetical market approach is used with the Continget Valuation Method (CVM). WTP prices are divided into two categories; WTP0 corresponds to the market price, and WTP1 increases 5% above the market price. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, and variable logistic regression. The results showed that 85.35% of consumers were willing to pay a 5% price increase, while 14.65% were not. With this 5% price increase, halal chicken suppliers get an additional sales turnover of IDR 16.8 million per month or 201.6 million per year. Characteristics of respondents who determine WTP are education level, household income, and consumer awareness of halal products. The study concluded that the halal WTP  allows suppliers to build small-scale halal slaughterhouses (200-300 heads) per dayWillingness to Pay (WTP) or the price level at which consumers are willing or willing to pay per unit (kg) of halal chicken meat. This study aims to analyze how implementers understand the implementation of inclusive education at the level of secondary education in Palu City. This type of research is qualitative research. The Education and Culture Office of Central Sulawesi Province as an analysis unit for the implementation of inclusive education policies and the School for Providing Inclusive Education mostly understood the standards and targets and orientation of inclusive education, but in accepting students was limited to specific children with special needs, for example disabled, low vision, slow leaner and mild autism, while those who are blind or deaf are recommended to Special Education School. The pattern of communication developed in the implementation of inclusive education policies in the secondary education level in the city of Palu in Central Sulawesi Province involves various institutions such as: The Office of Education and Culture of Central Sulawesi Province in this case the PK-PLK Sector, Inclusive Organizing Schools, Special Education School and Higher Education. Forms of communication developed between institutions implementing inclusive education are formal, vertical and horizontal. The resource support, namely special tutor who has Special Education qualifications and resource space for children with special needs is not yet available, and there is no proportional budget available for schools implementing inclusive education. The contributions of the social environment are the school and the community response, especially parents provide the support. However, the economic aspect is that schools which provide the inclusive education are not supported by proportionally specific budgets. Political factors in the context of local politics, for example the elections, did not find any influence in the implementation of inclusive education policies. A Comparative Study On Time-Frequency Distribution Techniques For Battery Parameters Estimation System

    Get PDF
Due to the degradation in battery lifetime directly impacts by load performance, reliability and safety operation of the battery cannot be guaranteed. In turn, safety precautions can be taken by monitoring battery performance from charging/discharging signals behaviour. Analyse the battery charging/discharging signals become challenging as the signal characteristic appears at very low frequency. Therefore, fast and accurate analysis in estimating battery parameters for real-time monitoring system should be proposed and developed. This research presents analysis of the battery charging/discharging signals using a spectral analysis technique, namely periodogram and time-frequency distributions (TFDs) which are spectrogram and S-transform techniques. The analysed batteries are lead acid (LA), nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) and lithium-ion (Li-ion). From the equivalent circuit model (ECM) simulated using MATLAB, constant charging/discharging signals are presented, jointly, in time-frequency representation (TFR). From the TFR, battery signal characteristics are determined from the estimated parameters of instantaneous of total voltage (VTOT (t)), instantaneous of average voltage (VAVG (t)) and instantaneous of ripple factor voltage (VRF (t)). Hence, an equation for battery remaining capacity as a function of estimated parameter of VRF (t) using curve fitting tool is presented. In developing a real time automated battery parameters estimation system, best TFD is chosen in terms of accuracy of battery parameters, computational complexity in signal processing and memory size. Advantages in high accuracy for battery parameters estimation and low in memory size requirement makes S-transform technique is selected to be the best TFD. The accuracy of the system is verified with parameters estimation using ECM for each type of battery at a different capacity. The field testing results show that average mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) is around four percent. Thus, implementation of S-transform technique for real-time automated battery parameters estimation system is very appropriate for battery signal analysis
