    A review of relay network on UAVS for enhanced connectivity

    One of the best evolution in technology breakthroughs is the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). This aerial system is able to perform the mission in an agile environment and can reach the hard areas to perform the tasks autonomously. UAVs can be used in post-disaster situations to estimate damages, to monitor and to respond to the victims. The Ground Control Station can also provide emergency messages and ad-hoc communication to the Mobile Users of the disaster-stricken community using this network. A wireless network can also extend its communication range using UAV as a relay. Major requirements from such networks are robustness, scalability, energy efficiency and reliability. In general, UAVs are easy to deploy, have Line of Sight options and are flexible in nature. However, their 3D mobility, energy constraints, and deployment environment introduce many challenges. This paper provides a discussion of basic UAV based multi-hop relay network architecture and analyses their benefits, applications, and tradeoffs. Key design considerations and challenges are investigated finding fundamental issues and potential research directions to exploit them. Finally, analytical tools and frameworks for performance optimizations are presented

    The study aims to investigate the relationship between the prices of agricultural products at the producer level with the prices of the same products at the consumer level in South Sumatera, Indonesia with a case study on the production and consumption of rice as the most important agricultural product in Indonesia. The analytical approach is linear regression modelling with Ordinary Least Squares (OLS), and the Approach of Index Market Connection model (IMC). The findings of the study indicated integration between the price of rice at the producer level and the price of rice at the consumer level. In addition, the three sample regions have IMC value less than 1, meaning that both markets have vertical integration in the short run. Another finding of this study is that the high price difference at the local market level is due to the long distribution of rice commodities in South Sumatera. Government intervention is particularly needed at the local market-level on pricing policy by shortening the distribution channels.peer-reviewe

    Prediction of tool life by statistic method in end-milling operation

    The aim of the this study is to develop the tool life prediction model for P20 tool steel with aid of statistical method, using coated carbide cutting tool under various cutting conditions. This prediction model was then compared with the results obtained experimentally. By using Response Surface Method (RSM) of experiment, first and second order models were developed with 95% confidence level. The tool life was developed in terms of cutting speed, feed rate, axial depth and radial depth, using RSM and design of experiment. In general, the results obtained from the mathematical model are in good agreement with that obtained from the experiment data’s. It was found that the feedrate, cutting speed, axial depth and radial depth played a major role in determining the tool life. On the other hand, the tool life increases with a reduction in cutting speed and feedrate. For end-milling of P20 tool steel, the optimum conditions that is required to maximize the coated carbide tool life are as follow: cutting speed of 140 m/s, federate of 0.1 mm/rev, axial depth of 1.5 mm and radial depth of 2 mm. Using these parameters, a tool life of 39.46 min was obtained

    Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm Surgery in Marfan Patients: a Perspective from the UK

    Abstract Objective: Cardiovascular complications in Marfan patients include progressive aortic root dilation which can precipitate acute aortic dissection, ruptured aorta, severe aortic regurgitation, or all the aforementioned. Such complications can be fatal and the cause of death prior to any surgical intervention. We set out to identify the Marfan population in England and Wales and present their surgical outcomes. Methods: A total of 306 patients with Marfan syndrome who underwent aortic root surgery were identified between April 2007 and March 2013 from NICOR database. We examined the perioperative characteristics of such cohort along with in-hospital outcomes and survival. Results: Root and ascending segment procedures on Marfan patients performed in 3.3% of the total cohort by NICOR root surgery patients. The median reported age was 40 years (IQR = 29-49 years) and 100 (32.7%) were female. Of the patients analysed, 17.3% were treated non-electively and 68.6% of them received concomitant valve procedure. The in-hospital mortality was 2.0%. Reoperation for bleeding was required in 8.2% of patients and 1.3% of them suffered a cerebrovascular accident (CVA). Mortality at 1 year was reported as 5.5%. Conclusion: The outcomes of surgery on the root and ascending aorta in Marfan patients in the United Kingdom are satisfactory; however, the overall complexities of this patient population are not well understood and would benefit from further investigations
