    Based on the observations of researchers in the field shows that the male student SMP 29 Pekanbaru, volleyball basic engineering skills are still low, and there are many students who have not mastered the basic techniques of volleyball well, besides learning method used is not appropriate. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in the effect of learning methods and interest in playing volleyball skills.The research is a quasi-experimental, using a 2x2 factorial design. The population was male student of class VII and VIII SMP 29 Pekanbaru, amounting to 82 people, while the samples in this study were 82 students of class VII and VIII son after the distribution group (82x27% = 22) a high level of interest in learning and (82x27% = 22) the low level of interest in learning. The instrument used was a test volleyball basic level. Data were analyzed by ANOVA followed by two lines and Tuckey test.The results of data analysis showed that: (1) There are significant differences between the results of the skills to play volleyball elementary and conventional group (of F = 6.10> Ftable = 4.06), (2) There is interaction between learning method with learning interest (of F = 40.82> F table = 4:06), (3) in the interest of learning high category, the conventional skills of volleyball student group given conventional teaching method is better than the group given elementary learning methods (Qh = 3.92> Qt = 3.79), (4) in the interest of studying the low category , playing volleyball skills students are given a group of elementary learning method is better than the group given conventional learning methods (Qh = 8.86> Qt = 3.79)

    The role of ECL2 in CGRP receptor activation: a combined modelling and experimental approach

    The calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor is a complex of a calcitonin receptor-like receptor (CLR), which is a family B G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) and receptor activity modifying protein 1. The role of the second extracellular loop (ECL2) of CLR in binding CGRP and coupling to Gs was investigated using a combination of mutagenesis and modelling. An alanine scan of residues 271–294 of CLR showed that the ability of CGRP to produce cAMP was impaired by point mutations at 13 residues; most of these also impaired the response to adrenomedullin (AM). These data were used to select probable ECL2-modelled conformations that are involved in agonist binding, allowing the identification of the likely contacts between the peptide and receptor. The implications of the most likely structures for receptor activation are discussed.</jats:p

    Morphological and geographical traits of the British Odonata

    Trait data are fundamental for many aspects of ecological research, particularly for modeling species response to environmental change. We synthesised information from the literature (mainly field guides) and direct measurements from museum specimens, providing a comprehensive dataset of 26 attributes, covering the 43 resident species of Odonata in Britain. Traits included in this database range from morphological traits (e.g. body length) to attributes based on the distribution of the species (e.g. climatic restriction). We measured 11 morphometric traits from five adult males and five adult females per species. Using digital callipers, these measurements were taken from dry museum specimens, all of which were wild caught individuals. Repeated measures were also taken to estimate measurement error. The trait data are stored in an online repository (https://github.com/BiologicalRecordsCentre/Odonata_traits), alongside R code designed to give an overview of the morphometric data, and to combine the morphometric data to the single value per trait per species data

    Can cutaneous telangiectasiae as late normal-tissue injury predict cardiovascular disease in women receiving radiotherapy for breast cancer?

    Background: Overall, ~5% of patients show late normal-tissue damage after radiotherapy with a smaller number having a risk of radiation-induced heart disease. Although the data are conflicting, large studies have shown increased risks of cardiovascular disease (CVD) for irradiated patients compared with non-irradiated ones, or for those treated to the left breast or chest wall compared with those treated to the right. Cutaneous telangiectasiae as late normal-tissue injury have so far only been regarded as a cosmetic burden. Methods: The relationship between late normal-tissue radiation injury phenotypes in 149 irradiated breast cancer patients and the presence of cardiovascular disease were examined. Results: A statistically significant association between the presence of skin telangiectasiae and the long-term risk of CVD was shown in these patients (P=0.017; Fisher's exact test). Interpretation: This association may represent initial evidence that telangiectasiae can be used as a marker of future radiation-induced cardiac complications. It could also suggest a common biological pathway for the development of both telangiectasiae and CVD on the basis of a genetically predisposed endothelium. To our knowledge this is the first reported study looking at this association

    Rolling friction of a viscous sphere on a hard plane

    A first-principle continuum-mechanics expression for the rolling friction coefficient is obtained for the rolling motion of a viscoelastic sphere on a hard plane. It relates the friction coefficient to the viscous and elastic constants of the sphere material. The relation obtained refers to the case when the deformation of the sphere ΞΎ\xi is small, the velocity of the sphere VV is much less than the speed of sound in the material and when the characteristic time ΞΎ/V\xi/V is much larger than the dissipative relaxation times of the viscoelastic material. To our knowledge this is the first ``first-principle'' expression of the rolling friction coefficient which does not contain empirical parameters.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figure

    Structure-activity relationships of the N-terminus of calcitonin gene-related peptide:key roles of alanine-5 and threonine-6 in receptor activation

    Background and purpose - The N-terminus of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is important for receptor activation, especially the disulphide-bonded ring (residues 1-7). However, the roles of individual amino acids within this region have not been examined and so the molecular determinants of agonism are unknown. This study has examined the role of residues 1, 3-6 and 8-9, excluding Cys-2 and Cys-7. Experimental approach - CGRP derivatives were substituted with either cysteine or alanine; further residues were introduced at position 6. Their affinity was measured by radioligand binding and their efficacy by measuring cAMP production in SK-N-MC cells and ß-arrestin 2 translocation in CHO-K1 cells at the CGRP receptor. Key results - Substitution of Ala-5 by cysteine reduced affinity 270-fold and reduced efficacy for production of cAMP in SK-N-MCs. Potency at ß-arrestin translocation was reduced by 9-fold. Substitution of Thr-6 by cysteine destroyed all measurable efficacy of both cAMP and ß-arrestin responses; substitution with either alanine or serine impaired potency. Substitutions at positions 1, 4, 8 and 9 resulted in approximately 10-fold reductions in potency at both responses. Similar observations were made at a second CGRP-activated receptor, the AMY1(a) receptor. Conclusions and implications - Ala-5 and Thr-6 are key determinants of agonist activity for CGRP. Ala-5 is also very important for receptor binding. Residues outside of the 1-7 ring also contribute to agonist activity

    A Hybrid Approach to Parallel Pattern Discovery in C++

However, discovering places in sequential code where parallel patterns should be introduced is still highly non-trivial, often requiring expert manual analysis and profiling. We present a hybrid discovery technique to detect instances of parallel patterns in sequential code. This employs both static and dynamic trace-based analysis, together with hotspot detection. We evaluate our pattern discovery mechanism on a number of representative benchmarks. We evaluate the performance of the resulting parallelised benchmarks on a 24-core parallel machine.Postprin
