Transverse nucleon structure and diagnostics of hard parton-parton processes at LHC
We propose a new method to determine at what transverse momenta particle
production in high-energy pp collisions is governed by hard parton-parton
processes. Using information on the transverse spatial distribution of partons
obtained from hard exclusive processes in ep/gamma p scattering, we evaluate
the impact parameter distribution of pp collisions with a hard parton-parton
process as a function of p_T of the produced parton (jet). We find that the
average pp impact parameters in such events depend very weakly on p_T in the
range 2 < p_T < few 100 GeV, while they are much smaller than those in
minimum-bias inelastic collisions. The impact parameters in turn govern the
observable transverse multiplicity in such events (in the direction
perpendicular to the trigger particle or jet). Measuring the transverse
multiplicity as a function of p_T thus provides an effective tool for
determining the minimum p_T for which a given trigger particle originates from
a hard parton-parton process. Additional tests of the proposed geometric
correlations are possible by measuring the dependence on the trigger rapidity.
Various strategies for implementing this method are outlined.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figure
Dynamical coupled-channel study of K+ Lambda photoproduction
Results for the reaction gamma p --> K+ Lambda, studied within a constituent
quark model and a dynamical coupled-channel approach, are presented and
compared with recent data. Issues related to the search for missing baryon
resonances are briefly discussed and the role played by a third S_{11}
resonance is underlined.Comment: To appear in the proceedings of BARYONS 2004, Palaiseau, France,

Chiral constituent quark model study of the process
A constituent quark model is developed for the reaction, allowing us to
investigate all available data for differential cross sections as well as
single polarization asymmetries (beam and target) by including {\it all} of the
PDG, one to four star, nucleon resonances (, , ,
, , , , , , ,
, and ). Issues related to the missing resonances are also
briefly discussed by examining possible contributions from several new
resonances (, , , , , and ).Comment: 3 pages,2 figures, presented in NSTAR2007, Bonn, Germany,5 - 8

Multi-Parton Interactions at the LHC
We review the recent progress in the theoretical description and experimental
observation of multiple parton interactions. Subjects covered include
experimental measurements of minimum bias interactions and of the underlying
event, models of soft physics implemented in Monte Carlo generators,
developments in the theoretical description of multiple parton interactions and
phenomenological studies of double parton scattering. This article stems from
contributions presented at the Helmholtz Alliance workshop on "Multi-Parton
Interactions at the LHC", DESY Hamburg, 13-15 September 2010.Comment: 68 page
Eta photoproduction off the neutron at GRAAL: Evidence for a resonant structure at W=1.67 GeV
New (preliminary) data on eta photoproduction off the neutron are presented.
These data reveal a resonant structure at W=1.67 GeV.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures. Published in Proceedings of Workshop on the

Measurements of polarized photo-pion production on longitudinally polarized HD and Implications for Convergence of the GDH Integral
We report new measurements of inclusive pion production from frozen-spin HD
for polarized photon beams covering the Delta(1232) resonance. These provide
data simultaneously on both H and D with nearly complete angular distributions
of the spin-difference cross sections entering the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn (GDH)
sum rule. Recent results from Mainz and Bonn exceed the GDH prediction for the
proton by 22 microbarns, suggesting as yet unmeasured high-energy components.
Our pi0 data reveal a different angular dependence than assumed in Mainz
analyses and integrate to a value that is 18 microbarns lower, suggesting a
more rapid convergence. Our results for deuterium are somewhat lower than
published data, considerably more precise and generally lower than available
calculations.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures. Submitted for publication in Physical Review

SUSY Survey with Inclusive Muon and Same-Sign Dimuon Accompanied by Jets and MET with CMS
Generic signatures of supersymmetry with R-parity conservation include those of single isolated muons or like-sign isolated dimuon pairs, accompanied with energetic jets and missing transverse energy. The ability of CMS to discover supersymmetry with these signals is estimated for 10 fb^{-1} of data collected with the inclusive single-muon and dimuon High-Level-Trigger paths. The selection criteria are optimized and the systematic effects are studied for a single low-mass benchmark point of the constrained MSSM with m_0 = 60,GeV/c^2, m_{1/2} = 250,GeVc^2, tan beta=10, A_0=0 and mu> 0. Discovery contours in the m_0, m_{1/2}) plane are presented for integrated luminosities ranging from 1 to 100, fb^{-1}
Eta photoproduction off the neutron at GRAAL
The gamma n -> eta n quasi-free cross section reveals a resonant structure at
W ~ 1.675 GeV. This structure may be a manifestation of a baryon resonance. A
priori its properties, the possibly narrow width and the strong photocoupling
to the neutron, look surprising. This structure may also signal the existence
of a narrow state.Comment: To appear in Proceedings of Workshop on the Physics of Excited

Eta photoproduction on the neutron at GRAAL: Measurement of the differential cross section
In this contribution, we will present our first preliminary measurement of
the differential cross section for the reaction gamma+n->eta+n. Comparison of
the reactions gamma+p->eta+p for free and bound proton (D2 target) will also be
discussed.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, Proceedings of the 10th International Symposium

Measurement of eta photoproduction on the proton from threshold to 1500 MeV
Beam asymmetry and differential cross section for the reaction gamma+p->eta+p
were measured from production threshold to 1500 MeV photon laboratory energy.
The two dominant neutral decay modes of the eta meson, eta->2g and eta->3pi0,
were analyzed. The full set of measurements is in good agreement with
previously published results. Our data were compared with three models. They
all fit satisfactorily the results but their respective resonance contributions
are quite different. The possible photoexcitation of a narrow state N(1670) was
investigated and no evidence was found.Comment: 18 pages, 14 figures, 4 tables Submitted to EPJ
