Local Government and Citizen Engagement in Environmental Activism in Spanish and English Cities

    Get PDF
Conference posterEnvironmental issues have played a part in citizens’ concerns and protests and these issues have played a greater role in political agendas (Levy and Zint, 2013; Dalton, Recchia and Rohrschneider, 2003). As result, grassroots community resistance emerged in response to practices, policies, and conditions that residents have judged to be unfair or illegal (Bullard and Johnson, 2000, p.557). Following the approach of issues management and environmental activism, and considering public relations as a social activity (Ihlen, Fredriksson & van Ruler, 2009), we will investigate if local governments are using issues management “to reduce friction and increase harmony between organisations and their publics” (Heath, 2005, p.460) and how public relations are empowering and engaging citizens to play an active role in their cities' destiny.Universidad de Málaga. The role of market learning in customer value creation

    Get PDF
One of the main criticisms in the strategy field, in general, and the resource-based view (RBV) in particular, is the poor attention paid to the question about customer value creation through organizational resources. This paper takes place in the new research line that points out the need to analyse the customer view, that is, how business resources are used to create value for the customer. Specifically, the role that market-sensing capability plays in superior customer value generation and its effects on superior performance are analysed. To reach this objective, first we develop a theoretical revision. Second, empirical research developed in the Spanish Insurance sector is put forward

    Get PDF

    Get PDF

Influence of Temperature during Pre-Fermentative Maceration and Alcoholic Fermentation on the Phenolic Composition of ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ Wines

This study presents the effects of different working temperatures on the transfer of compounds during the pre-fermentative and fermentative stages of the wine making process with 'Cabernet Sauvignon' grapes. Two different procedures have been evaluated. Firstly, the pre-fermentative maceration of the crushed grapes at two different temperatures (20 degrees C and 10 degrees C). Then, the alcoholic fermentation under two different sets of conditions, the fermentation at a constant temperature of 20 degrees C and the fermentation under a positive temperature gradient from 10 to 20 degrees C. According to the experimental results, the phenolic contents (total phenolics, total anthocyanins, and total tannins) were mainly conditioned by the fermentation temperature, however the pre-fermentative conditions also affected the content levels of these compounds. Furthermore, the use of a fermentation temperature gradient improved the organoleptic characteristics of the wines. However, the color was not as stable as that of wines produced through fermentation at a higher constant temperature. Consequently, the implementation of a temperature gradient during the alcoholic fermentation process is recommended and a longer period at high temperature over the last phase of the process would be desirable to obtain aromatic wines with the desirable color stability. This research was co-financed by the 2014-2020 ERDF Operational Programme and by the Department of Economy, Knowledge, Business and University of the Regional Government of Andalusia. Sensing Technologies in the Evaluation of the Mechanical Properties of the Plantar Flexors by Using the Free Vibration Technique

    Get PDF
The use of free vibration techniques to evaluate the responsiveness of a one-degree-of-freedom dynamic system linked to musculo-articular stiffness (MAS) of the plantar flexors has become an accepted procedure in scientific literature. However, the applicability and widespread use of this parameter have been limited thus far for different issues. On the one hand, the measurement of this parameter requires a noninvasive, nonstress laboratory test, which implies the use of appropriate in-lab infrastructure, ad hoc mechanical devices, and specific signal sensing units. On the other hand, it requires an efficient treatment and processing of the signal data obtained from laboratory tests through different signal filtering techniques and mathematical transformations. In the present manuscript, the fundamentals of the free vibration technique, the measurement device, the adjustment procedure, and finally the software based on java platform are presented in order to show the applicability of the MAS as parameter to evaluate the functional response of one subject based on his mechanical response of the lower part of the body once the whole procedure is addressed and controlled to ensure the reproducibility and the reliability of the test

Real-Time Unsupervised Object Localization on the Edge for Airport Video Surveillance.

    Get PDF
Object localization is vital in computer vision to solve object detection or classification problems. Typically, this task is performed on expensive GPU devices, but edge computing is gaining importance in real-time applications. In this work, we propose a real-time implementation for unsupervised object localization using a low-power device for airport video surveillance. We automatically find regions of objects in video using a region proposal network (RPN) together with an optical flow region proposal (OFRP) based on optical flow maps between frames. In addition, we study the deployment of our solution on an embedded architecture, i.e. a Jetson AGX Xavier, using simultaneously CPU, GPU and specific hardware accelerators. Also, three different data representations (FP32, FP16 and INT8) are employed for the RPN. Obtained results show that optimizations can improve up to 4.1× energy consumption and 2.2× execution time while maintaining good accuracy with respect to the baseline model.Universidad de Málaga.
