O iluminador pode simplesmente contentar-se com elementos decorativos abstractos ou figurativos cuja disposição possua um papel essencial e funcional na estrutura e divisão do texto, sublinhando o valor e a importância de certas passagens ou parágrafos (método decorativo). Pode, por outro lado, juntar ilustrações que acompanhem o texto para esclarecer ou elucidar do seu conteúdo (método ilustrativo). Estes dois métodos sempre se complementaram de uma forma ou doutra desde os princípios da produção medieval. Certos períodos do final da Idade Média acusam uma preponderância do método ilustrativo sem, no entanto, eliminarem completamente a decoração dos fólios

Centenário da República: memórias da história na Biblioteca Nacional

Múltiplas foram as comemorações dos 100 anos da implantação da República Portuguesa, múltiplos os espaços de debate e reflexão, múltiplos os olhares sobre episódios e singularidades. Aproveitemos este número da Revista Polistécnica para entreabrir a porta a um outro espaço. Propomos, com estas linhas e, no âmbito deste centenário, contribuir para avaliar a forma como a Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal trabalhou sobre o tema e construiu o seu espaço próprio de memória, divulgando um dos mais importantes espólios de que é detentora. Entre outras que sinalizaremos, nada mais que a colecção dos periódicos portugueses, na clandestinidade, e que são na sua maioria material de valor excepcional para a história das ideias republicanas no nosso país. Para sabermos qual o grau de criatividade e de espírito imaginativo dos iluminadores deveremos analisar detalhadamente a ilustração dos textos. Esta ilustração, longe do sentido puramente estético da simples decoração, pode figurar em cenas isoladas, em iniciais historiadas e, eventualmente, nas margens de um manuscrito iluminado

Identidade e comunicação organizacional - contributos para a construção de uma imagem : o caso da escola superior de educação de Viseu

O Ensino Superior Português atravessa, atualmente, umas das fases mais complexas da sua história. A diminuição do número de candidatos e a quebra significativa do financiamento a par de uma expressiva concorrência, resultante do elevado número de instituições existentes, tornam necessária uma alteração na postura destas instituições. O Marketing tem vindo a assumir um papel cada vez mais presente nas organizações e as instituições de ensino superior não são exceção. São estudadas estratégias e formulados planos que, perante a especificidade do serviço Educação, ajudem a potenciar a imagem da instituição, consigam de forma mais eficaz chegar aos seus públicos oferecendo-lhes os conteúdos que mais se adaptem às suas necessidades e objetivos. Uma das estratégias passa naturalmente pelo recurso às novas Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação. Estas ferramentas, nomeadamente a Internet, estão hoje disseminadas por todo o mundo e com índices de utilização de enorme impacto. Tendo em consideração os pressupostos enunciados foi realizada a revisão da literatura nas áreas do ensino superior, do marketing, da identidade e comunicação organizacional e da internet. Contributos teóricos que orientaram a presente investigação suportada pela análise de Websites de estabelecimentos de ensino superior seleccionados. De acordo com esta pesquisa foi construída e aplicada, às homepages de instituições de ensino superior, uma grelha de análise, com o intuito de verificar se esta ferramenta permite reforçar a imagem das instituições, face às suas concorrentes, recrutar novos públicos, em suma, ser auto-suficientes na condução do seu futuro. Os resultados obtidos por este estudo permitem-nos propor, no âmbito da IDENTIDADE E COMUNICAÇÃO ORGANIZACIONAL- CONTRIBUTOS PARA A CONSTRUÇÃO DE UMA IMAGEM, o redesign da Homepage da escola incubadora deste projeto, a Escola Superior de Educação de Viseu.The Higher Education is passing through one of the mostly complex period on his history. The continuous decrease of candidates and the significant drop of financial support, together with the aggressive competition coming from the high number of existing institutions, require constant changes in the attitude of the organizations. Marketing is being assuming an increasingly important role in the organizations, and the Higher Education institutions are not exceptions. Considering the specific characteristics of this market, strategies and business plans are developed to promote the institution image in order to reach their target audience and offer services that better suit their needs and goals. The defined strategy of the institutions should include the enforcement of the new Information and Communication Technologies. Those tools, in particular the Internet, are now spread throughout the world and with utilization rates of huge impact. Following the mentioned assumptions, it was performed a literature review in the areas of higher education, marketing, identity and organizational communication and the Internet. Theoretical contributions that have guided this research supported by the higher education selected Websites analysis. According to this survey it was constructed and applied to the higher education institutions homepages, an analysis grid, in order to verify if this tool allows to reinforce the image of the institutions, compared to its competitors, recruit new audiences, in resume, be self-sufficient in their future guidelines. Bibliotecas universitarias ibéricas y patrimonio histórico-documental: políticas y proyectos de salvaguarda de la memoria escrita

The lack of visibility of rare books and manuscripts of University Libraries, which comprise rare patrimonial and historical collections, that at present remain remote from the institutional entailed interest, is one of the actual main concerns in the field, as it is apparent one needs to reflect upon their disclosure/diffusion and provide a safeguard for the memory of a written heritage. Information Technology has deeply changed the ways in which scientific research and its findings are made public. Thus, and in this context, it is expected from Portuguese and Spanish Universities to find out principles and establish conditions to ease the access to these collections, while celebrating and increasing their patrimonial value

NEOTROPICAL XENARTHRANS: a data set of occurrence of xenarthran species in the Neotropics

Xenarthrans—anteaters, sloths, and armadillos—have essential functions for ecosystem maintenance, such as insect control and nutrient cycling, playing key roles as ecosystem engineers. Because of habitat loss and fragmentation, hunting pressure, and conflicts with domestic dogs, these species have been threatened locally, regionally, or even across their full distribution ranges. The Neotropics harbor 21 species of armadillos, 10 anteaters, and 6 sloths. Our data set includes the families Chlamyphoridae (13), Dasypodidae (7), Myrmecophagidae (3), Bradypodidae (4), and Megalonychidae (2). We have no occurrence data on Dasypus pilosus (Dasypodidae). Regarding Cyclopedidae, until recently, only one species was recognized, but new genetic studies have revealed that the group is represented by seven species. In this data paper, we compiled a total of 42,528 records of 31 species, represented by occurrence and quantitative data, totaling 24,847 unique georeferenced records. The geographic range is from the southern United States, Mexico, and Caribbean countries at the northern portion of the Neotropics, to the austral distribution in Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, and Uruguay. Regarding anteaters, Myrmecophaga tridactyla has the most records (n = 5,941), and Cyclopes sp. have the fewest (n = 240). The armadillo species with the most data is Dasypus novemcinctus (n = 11,588), and the fewest data are recorded for Calyptophractus retusus (n = 33). With regard to sloth species, Bradypus variegatus has the most records (n = 962), and Bradypus pygmaeus has the fewest (n = 12). Our main objective with Neotropical Xenarthrans is to make occurrence and quantitative data available to facilitate more ecological research, particularly if we integrate the xenarthran data with other data sets of Neotropical Series that will become available very soon (i.e., Neotropical Carnivores, Neotropical Invasive Mammals, and Neotropical Hunters and Dogs). Therefore, studies on trophic cascades, hunting pressure, habitat loss, fragmentation effects, species invasion, and climate change effects will be possible with the Neotropical Xenarthrans data set.
