Left internal mammary artery (LIMA) is the most commonly used graft during coronary bypass surgery. LIMA side branches are clipped during surgery in order to prevent coronary steal. In cases of patent LIMA side branches, there are differingapproaches. Herein, we report a case with patent thoracic side branch of LIMA graft, occlusion of this side branch by Amplatzer Vascular Plug because of documented myocardial ischemia, and long term follow-up results. PURPOSEThis study evaluated single center results of endovascular treatment in renal angiomyolipoma (AML) to determine whether there is clinical relevance of adding proximal coil embolization to distal particle embolization in terms of safety, efficacy and retreatment rates.METHODSA retrospective analysis was performed to evaluate patients undergoing transarterial embolization for renal AMLs from January 2007 to October 2020. Parameters regarding patient and tumor characteristics, embolization technique, treatment outcome and complications were recorded. Patients were divided into two groups as A (only particle group) and B (particle + coil group) based on the type of embolic agent used for treatment. Comparative analysis was performed between the two groups in terms of tumor size reduction, retreatment and complication rates.RESULTForty-two patients (37 (88.1%) female, 5 (11.9%) male) harboring 48 AMLs were included in the study. The mean age was 43.46 (range 20 to 78). The technical success rate was 95.8% (46 of 48 procedures). The mean size reduction was 1.94±1 cm (p < 0.001) after treatments however, no significant difference was seen between groups in terms of tumor size reduction. Retreatment rates were 3.1% (1 of 32 cases) in group A and 14.3% (2 of 14 cases) in group B (p = 0.21). No significant difference was found between groups in terms of bleeding and complication rates during the perioperative period. Mean follow-up duration was 26.48±25.71 (range from 2 to 102) months. CONCLUSIONIn this study, no clear supplementary benefit was observed in terms of safety, and efficacy with the adjunction of coils to distal particle embolization in the management of AMLs

Objective: Hepatic artery perfusion scintigraphy is a routine procedure for patient evaluation before Y-90 radiomicrosphere therapy and mostly used for prediction of extrahepatic leakage. Moreover, it also displays perfusion pattern of tumours, which is an important parameter on success of the therapy. The aim of this study is to assess the relation between the perfusion pattern on hepatic artery perfusion scintigraphy and radiomicrosphere therapy response., Methods: A total of 99 radiomicrosphere therapy applications were carried out in 80 patients (M/F: 55/25)., Results: Heterogeneous and diffuse perfusion patterns were observed in 47 patients and 52 patients, respectively. The patients with diffuse perfusion pattern had better therapy response both on FDG PET/CT (p= 0.04) and CT (p=0.008) when compared to those with heterogenous perfusion pattern., Conclusion: Perfusion pattern observed on hepatic artery perfusion scintigraphy may be a successful predictor of early response to radiomicrosphere therapy. , Conflict of interest:None declared.PubMe

Mechanical Complications Related to Central Venous Catheterization Lessons to be Learned From Two Cases

Central venous catheterization (CVC) is an interventional technique which is frequently used in critical patient care for diagnosis and treatment. As in all interventional procedures, CVC may be associated with both short and long-term complications. Here, we report two cases to demonstrate infrequent, but possible causes of mechanical complications related to CVC. The first case was a 24-year-old man with non-Hodgkin lymphoma who initially underwent femoral vein, then internal jugular vein (IJV) catheterization. A forgotten guide wire extending from the left femoral vein to the right IJV was noticed several days after the femoral venous catheterization during an attempt at an IJV catheterization. In the second case, who was a 71-year-old woman requiring CVC for hemodialysis and monitorization, the tip of a left IJV catheter, inserted after several attempts, was found in the right IJV. These cases illustrate the importance of obtaining and appropriately evaluating radiograms after venous catheterization, while bearing the possible mechanical complications in mind

PubMed ID: 29734425BACKGROUND: Cryopreservation has a side effect on the motility, chromatin integrity and viability of sperm cells. OBJECTIVE: The present study investigated the effects of supplementation with rosmarinic acid (RA) Tris extender on sperm quality parameters, plasma and acrosome membrane damage, antioxidant enzyme activity and chromatin integrity following the freeze thawing process on bull spermatozoa. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ejaculates were split into five aliquots and diluted to a final concentration of 15x106 spermatozoa/ml with the Tris extender containing RA (25, 50, 100 and 200 µg/ml) and (control) and then frozen at a controlled rate. RESULT: Treatments did not give better results on the percentages of sperm progressive, total motility and sperm motion characters (P>0.05); however, RA25 and RA50 exhibited favourable chromatin integrity. In conclusion, RA25 and RA50 increased total antioxidant activity. As a consequence, the amount of MDA and chromatin damage were reduced in sperm cells. © CryoLetters

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of percutaneous drainage of intraperitoneal abscesses with attention to recurrence and failure rates. A retrospective analysis of percutaneous treatment of 300 intraperitoneal abscesses in 255 patients (147 male, 108 female; average age: 38 years; range: 40 days to 90 years) for whom at least 1-year follow-up data were available was performed. Abscesses were drained with fluoroscopic, sonographic, or computed tomographic guidance. Nine abscesses were drained by simple aspiration; catheter drainage either by Seldinger or trocar technique was used in the remaining 291 abscesses with 6F to 14 F catheters. Initial cure and failure rates were 68% (203/300) and 12% (36/300), respectively. Sixty-one abscesses (20%) were either palliated or temporized. The recurrence rate was 4% (12/300) and nine of them were cured by recatheterization, whereas three of them were treated by medication or surgery. The overall success and failure rates were 91% (273/300) and 9% (27/300), respectively, with temporized, palliated, and recatheterized recurred abscesses. The 30-day mortality rate was 3.1% (8/255). The mean duration of catheterization was 13 days. Intraperitoneal abscesses with safe access routes should be drained percutaneously because of high success and low morbidity, mortality, and recurrence rates. © Springer Science+Business Media, Inc. 2005

WOS: 000471814000017This study aims to investigate the effect of catechin (CT), green tea extract, as a supplement to Tris extender on semen quality parameters in frozen-thawed of bull sperm. Ejaculates were taken with artificial vagina from Holstein bulls and divided equal five aliquots, diluted to containing different amounts of CT (5, 10, 25 and 50 mu g/mL) and no-additive (control). All samples were equilibrated at 4 degrees C for 4 h and were frozen using a digital freezing machine. Post-thawed sperm motility and kinetic parameters were determined using the sperm analyser system. Spermatozoa DNA integrity was evaluated with the single cell gel electrophoresis, abnormal spermatozoa rate was evaluated by fluid fixation test and lipid peroxidation status was evaluated calorimetrically. CT supplementation did not improve motility and kinetic parameters. However, the higher morphological integrity was detected in CT10, 25 and 50 groups compared to control (P<0.05). Regarding chromatin integrity, positive effects of catechin were observed in the treatment groups while in CT 50 group adverse effects were found (P<0.05). Although there was no improvement in malondialdehyde levels, the highest total antioxidant activity was seen in the CT50 group (P<0.05). In conclusion, CT supplementation could be used the protection of morphological and DNA integrity from cryodamage and it has increased the total antioxidant activity depending of the dose in bull semen.General Directorate of Agribusiness, Ankara, TurkeyThis study was supported by General Directorate of Agribusiness, Ankara, Turkey
