The combination of Institutional theory and cultural dimensions' theory in HRM practices implementation. Case studies of Finnish companies in Russia.

    Get PDF
Purpose – Previous studies have revealed the lack of research in relation to the role of institutional and cultural dimensions’ theories on HRM practices of Finnish multinationals operating in Russia. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the connection mentioned above and gain a solid understanding of possible similarities and differences between HRM practices in the parent unit and subsidiary. Design/methodology/approach – This study uses deductive approach and establishes a framework based on the literature review that was tested through the semi-structured interviews. Embedded case studies supplement the thesis with empirical findings. The sample is restricted to Finnish companies operating in Russia. The data from the interviews was processed together with the theoretical framework provided. Key findings – The research findings demonstrate that international differences (both institutional and cultural) existing within Finnish MNCs in Russia tend to diminish due to the existing unified corporate policies on HRM practices. However, the results still prove the existence of those differences to a certain extent. Research limitations/implications – This research is limited conceptually, methodologically and empirically. The major conceptual limitation implies on the theoretical framework provided. Methodologically, the study is restricted by the choice of research design consisting of multiple case studies. Empirically, the study is limited by the sample size of five companies. Value of the research – The study contributed to the existing research base. Firstly, it is one of the very few studies which combine the two named theories in one study. Secondly, it expands the discussion on HRM practices in this regard. Moreover, this research is unique in terms of the case countries chosen. To sum up, it provides HR managers from Finland and Russia with some invaluable tips when operating globally.fi=OpinnΓ€ytetyΓΆ kokotekstinΓ€ PDF-muodossa.|en=Thesis fulltext in PDF format.|sv=LΓ€rdomsprov tillgΓ€ngligt som fulltext i PDF-format

Correlation between the time taken to master the competency and the rank of competence evaluated on the basic educational programme

    Get PDF
The article deals with statistically important correlation between the time taken to master the competence and the rank of competence evaluated on the basic of educational programme "Soft engineering". The strength and the direction of correlation between these two characteristics was calculated using Pearson correlation coefficient. We estimated the empirical value of the correlation coefficient and the statistical significance of empirical value of the correlation coefficient using t-Student's criterion. It was shown that correlation between the time of competence mastering and the rank of competence is statistically important and the correlation is positive: the more significant competence, the more significant time for its mastering is needed

This is a post-peer-review, pre-copyedit version of a book chapter that is part of β€œV. A. Sadovnichiy, M. Z. Zgurovsky (eds.). Modern Mathematics and Mechanics. Understanding Complex Systems”. The final authenticated version is available online at: https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-319-96755-4_26The paper is devoted to the games of approach. We consider a controlled object whose dynamics is described by the linear differential system with a pure time delay or the differential-difference system with commutative matrices in Euclidean space. The approaches to the solutions of these problems are proposed which based on the Method of Resolving Functions and the First Direct Method of L.S. Pontryagin. The guaranteed times of the game termination are found, and corresponding control laws are constructed. The results are illustrated by a model example

Minimising investment risks through optimising public-private partnership: the case of the Kaliningrad region

    Get PDF
This study undertakes a contextual analysis of economic and legal risks associated with investment in the Kaliningrad region. The authors emphasise the importance of public-private partnership (PPP) in minimising such risks in order to enhance the region's attractiveness and to solve development problems. PPP has never been studied as a means to minimise regional investment risks in current conditions. This accounts for the scientific novelty of examining investment risks minimisation through proving the essentiality of developing PPP mechanisms on a unique Russian territory - the Kaliningrad region. The article analyses current investment risks, conditions, barriers, and avenues to enhance the investment climate in the Kaliningrad region. The authors utilise data on current investment in the region and consider the principles of the region's investment policy. The study stresses the need to develop the regional economy's "points of growth" within PPP schemes. It is proposed that the region and its municipalities should participate in partner projects in a manner that, firstly, is transparent to national and international investors and concordant with best practices and, secondly, enables the executive authorities and businesses to collaborate in developing the most efficient legal framework for partnership. The article identifies the role of PPP in solving the problem of regional development and gives recommendations on overcoming barriers and implementing PPP projects in the region

Structural Basis of Ets1 Cooperative Binding to Widely Separated Sites on Promoter DNA

    Get PDF
Ets1 is a member of the Ets family of transcription factors. Ets1 is expressed in autoinhibited form and its DNA binding depends on partner proteins bound to adjacent sequences or the relative positioning of a second Ets-binding site (EBS). The autoinhibition of Ets1 is mediated by structural coupling of regions flanking the DNA-binding domain. The NMR structure of Ets1 revealed that the inhibitory regions comprised of helices HI1 and HI2 and H4 are packed together on the Ets domain to form an inhibitory module. The crystal structure of Ets1 unexpectedly revealed a homodimer in which homodimerisation occurs via swapping of HI1 helices. Modeling of DNA binding indicates that the Ets1 dimer can bind to two antiparallel pieces of DNA. To verify this, we crystallized and solved the structure of the complex comprised of Ets1 dimer and two pieces of DNA. DNA binding by Ets1 dimer resulted in formation of additional intermolecular proteinβ€’DNA interactions, implying that the complex formation is cooperative

DETERMINATION OF PROPIONIC ACID AND ITS SALTS IN BAKERY PRODUCTS

    Get PDF
The conditions and parameters of chromatography were selected for the quantitative determination of propionic acid and its salts in bakery products using high-performance liquid chromatography. Validation studies of the developed measurement technique confirmed its suitability for determining the content of propionic acid and its salts in bakery products in the range from 200 to 3000 mg/kg. It was shown that in 25% of the samples of smallpiece bakery products, lamb products and donuts we examined, an excess of the maximum permissible level of propionic acid and its salts was found

Chemical composition of the small mammal reproductive system as an indicator of enterprise technogenic impact on the environment

    Get PDF
In this paper we consider the indicative role of chemical composition of the small mammal (specifically, the bank vole, or Myodes glareolus) reproductive system with the purpose of studying the impact of a large-scale nonferrous metal-processing enterprise on living organisms through the expample of Middle Ural copper-smelting plant OJSC. We have analysed the chemical composition of the placenta-embryo system in the areas which are 2 km and 30 km away from the plant

Mineralogical and geochemical features of human body ash residue of spatially-localized technogenic system (Norilsk city)

    Get PDF
The paper presents the information on the element and mineral composition of the human body ash residue of Norilsk residents. The data are obtained by such methods as X-ray analysis, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, and electron microscopy. This research has identified the content of 47 elements, 17 of which have their own mineral phases. Besides, the estimation of average content of chemical elements in terms of sex and correlation analysis of the data was conducted in this research. The final results indicate the influence of Norilsk industry on the element and mineral composition of ash residue. For example, the accumulation of such elements as Zr, Al, Ca, Y, some rare earth, and radioactive elements has been observed in the human body ash residue of Norilsk residents. The presence of Ag, Au, Pt microphases and numerous compounds of Cu, Ni etc. was detected among all mineral phases
