The following short notes outline the birth and evolution of Swedish Language and Literature Studies at Ca' Foscari University of Venice and view them against the background of the tradition of Scandinavian Studies within the Italian university system

Übersetzung als Manipulation. Der altschwedische Flores och Blanzeflor und dessen Überlieferung im 15. Jahrhundert

In the early 14th century, the translation of three chivalric romances into Old Swedish (customarily known as Eufemiavisor) marked the beginning of literary production in the vernacular in medieval Sweden. Flores och Blanzeflor is held to be the youngest of the three translations. It has been established on textual evidence that the text was in all likelihood translated from the Old Norwegian Flóres saga ok Blankiflúr. Except for a short fragment dating from the mid-14th century, the text is preserved in a number of 15th- century compilation manuscripts. The aim of this essay is twofold: to illustrate and briefly discuss the most relevant peculiarities of the translated text – using the Descriptive Translation Studies approach as a methodological frame – and to make some observations on how the text might have been used and interpreted in the 15th-century manuscripts as part of an intertextual dialogue involving a number of texts that showed thematic affinities

Nuove prospettive d’impiego delle tecnologie informatiche in ambito filologico

Partendo da una breve descrizione di due importanti progetti relativi al Medioevo germanico, presentati ad un recente convegno svoltosi a Tübingen (2002), lo scopo del presente articolo è quello di mettere in evidenza alcune delle nuove prospettive d’impiego di strumenti e tecniche computazionali nel campo della filologia e di illustrarne il contributo innovativo nell’ambito di un’ottica di ricerca orientata all’interdisciplinarità.Nel vasto ed eterogeneo ambito di ricerca dell’informatica umanistica gli studi filologici occupano senza dubbio una posizione di rilievo. Se fin dagli inizi dell’uso del calcolatore si è affermato un progressivo apprezzamento dei vantaggi dell’automatizzazione di alcune fasi della creazione dell’edizione critica di un testo – in particolare a proposito della recensio –, è soprattutto nel corso dell’ultimo decennio che l’applicazione delle tecnologie informatiche a questioni d’interesse filologico ha subito un interessante incremento e ha prodotto risultati di un certo rilievo, al punto da indurre gli studiosi a coniare il termine di filologia computazionale.Within the wide field of humanities computing, that has been considerably developing in recent years, the philological studies – in their broadest sense – occupy a central position and have attracted the attention of many scholars around the world. Starting from a brief presentation of two major projects discussed at the ALLC/ACH joint conference held in Tübingen in 2002, the aim of this paper is to point out some of the most interesting applications of new information technologies to the philological study of literary texts of the Middle Ages and to show how they can make an innovative contribution to the research

La Bibbia nelle letterature germaniche medievali

È certamente un luogo comune affermare che la Bibbia è il testo fondamentale della cultura occidentale. Il fatto che si tratti di un luogo comune, tuttavia, non rende l’affermazione meno vera: per tutta l’epoca medievale il testo biblico è fondamento imprescindibile delle credenze socialmente accettate, è modello di comportamento etico, è repertorio di storie esemplari che permettono di assegnare un senso agli eventi storici come al vissuto quotidiano. La partecipazione dei popoli germanici alla costruzione del sistema culturale europeo, dalla tarda antichità fino all'età moderna, è percorsa e pervasa dai processi di traduzione, rielaborazione e riuso dei libri dell’Antico e del Nuovo Testamento. I contributi raccolti in questo volume offrono apporti interessanti e spesso originali ai molti ambiti di discussione sul testo biblico, inserendo così la riflessione dei filologi germanici italiani nel più ampio dibattito internazionale e contribuendo in misura significativa a svilupparlo e ad approfondirlo
