    Get PDF

World Health Organization Quality of Life Instrument Bref (WHOQOL-bref). There are negative forms, such as professional stress and exhaustion (widely studied), or positive forms such as work satisfaction and teacher subjective wellbeing (TSW) in the profession. The Brazilian TSW in the profession has not yet been studied through systematic instruments. A better understanding of teachers' working conditions, quality of life (QOL) or their TSW may have a multiplier effect on the outcome of their own work as well as on the students¿ life. This study aimed to: (i) investigate if there is an association between QOL parameters of elementary school teachers, their TSW in the profession, and their socioeconomic and occupational aspects; (ii) adapt the Brazilian Portuguese version of the TSW Questionnaire (TSWQ-BP) and investigate its technical adequacy. 267 elementary school teachers answered a socioeconomic and occupational questionnaire, the TSWQ and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Instrument Bref (WHOQOL-bref). Statistical modeling was performed to: (i) evaluate the socioeconomic and occupational sample¿s profile, as well as the association of these variables and the TSWQ in relation to the WHOQOL-bref domains; (ii) verify the structural validity, the convergent validity and the invariance measures. In relation to the WHOQOL-bref domains, the environmental domain had lower scores. The educators presented school connectedness¿ and teaching efficacy¿s good indexes. These two TSW aspects were associated with better scores in most domains of QOL. Modifiable factors such as religious practice, family income, lack of motivation to change profession; and non-modifiable factors such as age, male sex, non-white skin were positively associated with QOL. Investment in modifiable aspects may be associated with improved QOL. In relation to TSW in the profession, investing specifically in the school connectedness, sense of belonging and teaching efficacy can be associated with the general aspects improvement of their individual QOL. Regarding the TSWQ-BP validation, its responses indicated a sound two-factor measurement model, as well as convergent validity with teachers¿ responses to domain-general measures of wellbeing and can be understood as measuring the same latent constructs as the English version of the measure. Given metric invariance was not observed, however, results further suggest that it is currently inadvisable to use scores derived from the TSWQ for the purposes of directly comparing the wellbeing of Brazilian and U.S. educators. Future research is therefore needed to test the TSWQ¿BP with more diverse, representative, and larger samples of Brazilian educators to allow for more rigorous and confident conclusionsMestradoSaude da Criança e do AdolescenteMestra em Ciência

Petrology of mafic and ultramafic layered rocks from the Jaboncillo Valley, Sierra de Valle Fértil, Argentina: Implications for the evolution of magmas in the lower crust of the Famatinian arc

This work presents the field setting, petrography, mineralogy and geochemistry of a gabbroic and peridotitic layered body that is lens-shaped and surrounded by gabbronorites, diorites, and metasedimentary migmatites. This body exposed at Jaboncillo Valley is one among several examples of mafic and ultramafic layered sequences in the Sierras Valle Fértil and La Huerta, which formed as part of the lower crust of the Ordovician Famatinian magmatic arc in central-western Argentina. The layered sequence grew at deep crustal levels (20–25 km) within a mafic lower crust. The base of the layered body was detached during the tectonic uplift of the Famatinian lower crust, whereas the roof of the layered body is exposed in the eastern zone. In the inferred roof, olivine-bearing rocks vanish, cumulate textures are less frequent, and the igneous sequence becomes dominated by massive or thinly banded gabbronorites. Mainly based on the petrographic relationships, the inferred order of crystallization in the gabbroic and peridotitic layered sequence is: (1) Cr–Al-spinel + olivine, (2) Cr–Al-spinel + olivine + clinopyroxene + magnetite, (3) Cr–Al-spinel + olivine + plagioclase + magnetite ± orthopyroxene, and (4) Al-spinel + orthopyroxene + amphibole. A strong linear negative correlation between olivine and plagioclase modal proportions combined with field, petrographic and geochemical observations are used to demonstrate that the physical separation of olivine and plagioclase results in rock diversity at scales of a few centimeters to tens of meters. However, the composition of olivine (Fo ∼ 0.81) and plagioclase (An > 94%) remains similar throughout the layered sequence. Spinels are restricted to olivine-bearing assemblages, and display chemical trends characteristic of spinels found in arc-related cumulates. Gabbroic and peridotitic layered rocks have trace element concentrations reflecting cumulates of early crystallizing minerals. The trace element patterns still retain the typical features of subduction-related arc magmatism, showing that the process of cumulate formation did not obscure the trace element signature of the parental magma. Using the composition of cumulus minerals and whole-rock chemical trends, we show that the parental magma was mafic (SiO2 ∼ 48 wt.%) with Mg-number around 0.6, and hydrous. The oxygen fugacity (fO2) of the parental magma estimated between +0.8 and −0.6 log fO2 units around the fayalite–magnetite–quartz (FMQ) buffer is also characteristic of primitive hydrous arc magmas. The initially high water content of the parental magma allowed amphibole to crystallize as an interstitial phase all over the crystallization evolution of the layered sequence. Amphibole crystallization in the inter-cumulus assemblage gives rise to the retention of many trace elements which would otherwise be incompatible with the mineral assemblage of mafic–ultramafic cumulates. This study shows that there exist strongly mafic and primitive magmas that are both generated and emplaced within the lower crustal levels of subduction-related magmatic arc. Our findings together with previous studies suggest that the Early Ordovician magmatic paleo-arc from central-northwestern Argentina cannot be regarded as a typical Andean-type tectono-magmatic setting.Fil: Otamendi, Juan Enrique. Diet-induced Maternal Obesity Alters Insulin Signalling In Male Mice Offspring Rechallenged With A High-fat Diet In Adulthood

Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)Modern lifestyle has resulted in an increase in the prevalence of obesity and its comorbidities in pregnant women and the young population. It has been well established that the consumption of a high-fat diet (HFD) has many direct effects on glucose metabolism. However, it is important to assess whether maternal consumption of a HFD during critical periods of development can lead to metabolic changes in the offspring metabolism. This study evaluated the potential effects of metabolic programming on the impairment of insulin signalling in recently weaned offspring from obese dams. Additionally, we investigated if early exposure to an obesogenic environment could exacerbate the impairment of glucose metabolism in adult life in response to a HFD. Swiss female mice were fed with Standard Chow (SC) or a HFD during gestation and lactation and tissues from male offspring were analysed at d28 and d82. Offspring from obese dams had greater weight gain and higher adiposity and food intake than offspring from control dams. Furthermore, they showed impairment in insulin signalling in central and peripheral tissues, which was associated with the activation of inflammatory pathways. Adipose tissue was ultimately the most affected in adult offspring after HFD rechallenge; this may have contributed to the metabolic deregulation observed. Overall, our results suggest that diet-induced maternal obesity leads to increased susceptibility to obesity and impairment of insulin signalling in offspring in early and late life that cannot be reversed by SC consumption, but can be aggravated by HFD re-exposure.118Sao Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) [2011/22156-7, 2013/12003-4]Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP
