    From Calcium to Cadmium: Testing the Pairing Functional through Charge Radii Measurements of 100−130Cd

    Differences in mean-square nuclear charge radii of 100–130Cd are extracted from high-resolution collinear laser spectroscopy of the 5s 2S1/2→5p 2P3/2 transition of the ion and from the 5s5p3P2→5s6s3S1 transition in atomic Cd. The radii show a smooth parabolic behavior on top of a linear trend and a regular odd-even staggering across the almost complete sdgh shell. They serve as a first test for a recently established new Fayans functional and show a remarkably good agreement in the trend as well as in the total nuclear charge radius

    The incidence of stroke in Indigenous populations of countries with a Very High Human Development Index: a systematic review protocol

    Background and Aims: Despite known Indigenous health and socioeconomic disadvantage in countries with a Very High Human Development Index, data on the incidence of stroke in these populations are sparse. With oversight from an Indigenous Advisory Board, we will undertake a systematic review of the incidence of stroke in Indigenous populations of developed countries or regions, with comparisons between Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations of the same region, though not between different Indigenous populations. Methods: Using PubMed, OVID-EMBASE, and Global Health databases, we will examine population-based incidence studies of stroke in Indigenous adult populations of developed countries published 1990-current, without language restriction. Non-peer-reviewed sources, studies including <10 Indigenous People, or with insufficient data to determine incidence, will be excluded. Two reviewers will independently validate the search strategies, screen titles and abstracts, and record reasons for rejection. Relevant articles will undergo full-text screening, with standard data extracted for all studies included. Quality assessment will include Sudlow and Warlow's criteria for population-based stroke incidence studies, the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for risk of bias, and the CONSIDER checklist for Indigenous research. Results: Primary outcomes include crude, age-specific and/or age-standardized incidence of stroke. Secondary outcomes include overall stroke rates, incidence rate ratio and case-fatality. Results will be synthesized in figures and tables, describing data sources, populations, methodology, and findings. Within-population meta-analysis will be performed if, and where, methodologically sound and comparable studies allow this. Conclusion: We will undertake the first systematic review assessing disparities in stroke incidence in Indigenous populations of developed countries.     Laser Spectroscopy of Neutron-Rich Tin Isotopes: A Discontinuity in Charge Radii across the N=82 Shell Closure

    The change in mean-square nuclear charge radii ή⟹r2⟩ along the even-A tin isotopic chain 108−134Sn has been investigated by means of collinear laser spectroscopy at ISOLDE/CERN using the atomic transitions 5p2 1S0→5p6 s1P1 and 5p2 3P0→5p6s 3P1. With the determination of the charge radius of 134Sn and corrected values for some of the neutron-rich isotopes, the evolution of the charge radii across the N=82 shell closure is established. A clear kink at the doubly magic 132Sn is revealed, similar to what has been observed at N=82 in other isotopic chains with larger proton numbers, and at the N=126 shell closure in doubly magic 208Pb. While most standard nuclear density functional calculations struggle with a consistent explanation of these discontinuities, we demonstrate that a recently developed Fayans energy density functional provides a coherent description of the kinks at both doubly magic nuclei, 132Sn and 208Pb, without sacrificing the overall performance. A multiple correlation analysis leads to the conclusion that both kinks are related to pairing and surface effects

    The quadrupole interaction of the 11(-) and 12(+) isomers in Pb-192,Pb-194 nuclei has been investigated in the electric field gradient of metallic Bi polycrystalline lattice by the method of time-differential observation of the gamma-rays perturbed angular distribution. The electric field gradient strength of the host Bi lattice has been calibrated by using as probe the 12(+) isomer in Pb-194. The intrinsic quadrupole moments derived for the 11(-) isomers described by the pi (1h(9/2) 1i(13/2)) intruder configuration are compared with the predictions of mean-field and interacting boson models.status: publishe

The neutron-deficient cadmium isotopes have been measured by high-resolution laser spectroscopy at CERN-ISOLDE. The electromagnetic moments of Cd101 have been determined for the first time and the quadrupole-moment precision of Cd103 has been vastly improved. The results on the sequence of 5/2+ ground states in Cd101-109 are tentatively discussed in the context of simple structure in complex nuclei as similarities are found with the 11/2- states in the neutron-rich cases.
