    Interdisciplinary interventions in the perioperative rehabilitation of total laryngectomy: an integrative review

    The aim of this study was to use the scientific literature to identify interdisciplinary interventions for rehabilitation during the perioperative period for cancer patients who underwent total laryngectomy. We systematically researched controlled descriptors: laryngectomy, patient care team/education, patient care team/ manpower, patient care team/methods, patient care team/utilization and rehabilitation. We performed a qualitative narrative synthesis and identified 549 articles. Of these, 113 were duplicates, 398 were excluded during the analysis of the title and abstract, 1 was excluded for unfeasibility of access, and 4 were excluded after reading the article in full, resulting in 33 included articles. The articles addressed different types of interdisciplinary actions, such as vocal, olfactory, pulmonary and alimentary rehabilitation; comparisons of prosthetic devices; and descriptions of practices for total laryngectomized patient rehabilitation. Although the interventions found in the literature were effective in the rehabilitation of the total laryngectomized patient, their interdisciplinarity was not evidenced but was highlighted in these studies as a factor for improvement in terms of practical assistance and quality of life

    Incidência e mortalidade da febre amarela no Estado do Pará / Incidence and mortality of yellow fever in Pará State

    Introdução: A Febre Amarela (FA) é uma doença infecciosa febril aguda causada por vírus do gênero Flavivirus pertencente à família Flaviviridae  e é considerada uma endemia no Brasil. Apesar da sua importância clínica e epidemiológica, há uma subnotificação do agravo devido o aparecimento subclínico inespecífico na maior parte dos pacientes, além de uma elevada mortalidade (quando os sintomas graves estão presentes). Dessa forma, esse estudo visa coletadar dados acerca da incidência e mortalidade da febre amarela no estado do Pará, a fim de gerar subsídios científicos que aumente a eficácia das políticas adotadas para seu combate. Metodologia: Os pesquisadores acessaram o sistema DATASUS para recolher os dados disponíveis sobre a incidência e mortalidade de Febre Amarela no Estado do Pará no período de 2010 à 2019. Resultados e discussão: No período analisado, verifica-se que a Febre Amarela apresenta números relativamente baixos na Região Norte (consequentemente no Pará), o que pode ter relação com a subnotificação presente nessas localidades. Conclusão: há a demonstração da suma importância de trabalhos que mapeiem o atual panorama epidemiológico das regiões, visando beneficiar o conhecimento tanto da população quanto dos serviços de saúde a respeito da realidade local, para que assim, possa haver melhor assistência à comunidade, principalmente da região Norte, que padece de serviços estratégicos de saúde.

    Violacein-Induced Chaperone System Collapse Underlies Multistage Antiplasmodial Activity

    Antimalarial drugs with novel modes of action and wide therapeutic potential are needed to pave the way for malaria eradication. Violacein is a natural compound known for its biological activity against cancer cells and several pathogens, including the malaria parasite, Plasmodium falciparum (Pf). Herein, using chemical genomic profiling (CGP), we found that violacein affects protein homeostasis. Mechanistically, violacein binds Pf chaperones, PfHsp90 and PfHsp70-1, compromising the latter's ATPase and chaperone activities. Additionally, violacein-treated parasites exhibited increased protein unfolding and proteasomal degradation. The uncoupling of the parasite stress response reflects the multistage growth inhibitory effect promoted by violacein. Despite evidence of proteotoxic stress, violacein did not inhibit global protein synthesis via UPR activation - a process that is highly dependent on chaperones, in agreement with the notion of a violacein-induced proteostasis collapse. Our data highlight the importance of a functioning chaperone-proteasome system for parasite development and differentiation. Thus, a violacein-like small molecule might provide a good scaffold for development of a novel probe for examining the molecular chaperone network and/or antiplasmodial drug design.publishersversionpublishe

Methods: We evaluated the lethality of strain Btk176 towards the larval and adult M. domestica and the histopathological effects in the larvae midgut. Results: We observed 99% larval and 78.9% adult mortality within 48 hours of spore ingestion (dosage, 2.4×108 CFU/ml). The histopathological effects were consistent with cytotoxicity. PCR analysis showed the presence of the cry1Ba gene. Transmission electron microscopy revealed a bipyramidal parasporal body. Thurigiensin activity was not detected. Conclusions: The serovar, Btk176 might be a potential biocontrol agent for houseflies
