    Communication Behaviour of Street Children and Beggars in Makassar

    The purpose of this reseach is to explore, and categorize verbal and non verbal communication behavior in the performances of street children and beggars in Makassar. This study explored the operational actions and motivations of street children and beggars who work the streets. This study uses a qualitative method that seeks to interpret the meaning of data to understand a community's social life. The ethnographic approach to communication studies focuses on studying the interactions and activities of individuals as social creatures in using verbal and non-verbal symbols.  Primary data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with 21 street children informants and beggars operating in three sectors, namely, the Panakukang/ Fly Over/Red Light Sector, the Losari Beach Platform Sector, and the Hertasning Sector. Non-participant observation by repeatedly observing themselves both verbally and non-verbally in performing actions and actions in front of benefactors. This study found verbal and non verbal communication behaviors that are displayed as a form of impression management on the front stage in attracting the sympathies of benefactors. Verbal communication behavior in the form of spoken and written language based on categorical finding verbal symbols of street children and beggars using three elements, namely the structure of the message, the style of the message, and the attractiveness of the message.  Furthermore, the categorization of non-verbal communication behaviors is facial expressions, body movements (kinetic), physical appearance (body and manner of dress), and paralinguistic(vocalic)

    : Family communication is part of interpersonal communication that involves the exchange of messages, both verbal and non-verbal between parents and children in instilling or cultivate the child to cultural values of their parents. The purpose of this study was categorizing cultivation cultural values Toraja parents and children through family communication. This type of research uses qualitative descriptive study to examine in depth the cultivation of cultural values Toraja. The study found a pattern of cultivation first, parents and children of active and participatory in learning cultural values Toraja. Second, parents are active and have a high participation in the teaching of cultural values Toraja on their children. Third, children are more proactive and participatory in learning cultural values Toraja, Toraja ethnic fellow neighbors, playmates and friends at school who also have the same ethnicity

    Selective Influence of Political Advertising on Television in Visual Image Building Candidate Presidential Election 2014

    Political campaign presidential election in Indonesia has grown, along with the in creasing advances in technology and changes in the lectoral system (election). Then, the candidates vying to attract public sympathy, one way to make a Political Advertising that aired on television station. Presidential Elections (Election) in 2014 led to competition both pairs of candidates for president and vice president of the Prabowo-Hatta and Joko Widodo (Jokowi) - Jusuf Kalla (JK), heats up. The heat of competition seen also with the rise of political advertising both pairs of candidates. Political advertising is one way to get support from the community, for example in audio visual media television. The problem is how selective influence of political advertisements aired on television is able to construct a visual image of the presidential candidate in 2014. The aim was to determine the influence of selective political ad that aired in the media in the capture space “discourse” candidate image visualization massively so sehimgga able to raise the collective memory selector that will provide sound support when the momentum of the electorate was held. For the achievement of the objectives of this research are used type of research is a mixed-method research. This type of research that combines qualitative and quantitative research methods (triangulation) to provide a comprehensive analysis of the research problem. The goal is to get the data and comprehensive analysis of the research problem. The results of this study indicate that political advertisements on TV were able to build a visual image of the presidential candidates in 2014 by 87% and aims to improve the prospects of promoting the election of a candidate or candidates for president of programs and policies. Political ads this election is able to build the reputation of candidates or political parties to provide information to the public about the qualifications, experience, background, and personality presisen a candidate or political party. Then selective influence political advertising is changing, maintain adding cognitive, affective, and political behavior of audiences. The communication process takes place with all the elements involved. However, other results showed that the selective influence of political advertising in building the image visualization candidate vice effective only on the TV if it is based on specific situations, such as elections (presidential) only focused on situations in which engagement and voter interest and familiarity candidate or party chairman is quite high. The strength of political advertising in the media 2014 lies not in the idea, program, or solidity policy information directly related to the basic needs of the people.     Komunikasi antarpribadi mantan narapidana perempuan dalam adaptasi diri dan pengembangan hubungan dengan nilai ‘ade siri’ pada masyarakat Bugis-Makassar diKota Makassar. Fokus penelitiannya adalah bagaimana komunikasi antarpribadi mantan narapidana perempuan dalam melakukan pengembangan hubungan antarpribadi dengan masyarakat Bugis-Makassar.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menemukan dan mengkategorisasikan pengembangan hubungan antarpribadi, menggambarkan pola tahapan pengembangan hubungan antarpribadi mantan narapidana perempuan dengan old significant others dan newsignificant others. Dalam mencapai tujuan penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif atau paradigma interpretatif. Berdasarkan pada metode penelitian kualitatif, maka pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasinon partisipan atau pengamatan tidak berperan, wawancara mendalam (in-depth interview), studi dokumenter yang relevan penelitian subkultur Bugis Makassar. Pengembangan hubungan antarpribadi yang dilakukan oleh mantan narapidana perempuan dalam mengembangkan hubungan antarpribadi yang ditemukan dalam penelitian ini adalah, yakni terbuka, semiterbuka, dan tertutup.     Abstrak Pengelolaan kesan etnik Bugis dalam adaptasi diri dengan budaya Sunda merupakan kajian yang bertujuan untuk melihat tampilan bahasa verbal dan bahasa nonverbal. Pengelolaan kesan yang mengarah pada seni mengelola kesan terhadap serentetan tindakan dengan hati-hati, seperti gerak isyarat, kesalahan bicara atau tindakan yang diinginkan seperti membuat adegan. Berdasarkan hal tersebut masalah penelitian bagaimana pengelolaan kesan melalui bahasa verbal dan nonverbal yang mereka tampilkan dalam adaptasi diri dengan budaya Sunda. Tujuannya adalah untuk menemukan dan mengkategorisasikan pengelolaan kesan melalui bahasa verbal dan nonverbal yang mereka tampilkan dalam dalam adaptasi diri dengan budaya Sunda. Untuk pencapaian tujuan penelitian ini digunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan cara mengumpulkan data melalui pengamatan berperan serta atau observasi partisipan, wawancara mendalam, serta studi dokumenter. Peneliti terlibat langsung melakukan adaptasi diri dengan budaya Sunda dan melihat orang-orang etnik Bugis dalam berinteraksi langsung dengan masyarakat Sunda. Hasil yang ditemukan adalah pengelolaan kesan melalui bahasa verbal yang dilakukan informan adalah menggunakan bahasa Indonesia dengan tetap mempertahankan dialek atau logat Bugis yang kental, meskipun telah lama tetap mempertahakan logat Bugisnya. Tampilan bahasa nonverbal yang ditunjukkan adalah tetap mempertahankan intonasi dan suara yang agak keras dengan tetap senyum dan ramah yang juga sesuai dengan karakter adat sopan santun etnik Bugis.Abstract Bugis ethnic impression management in adapting to the Sundanese culture is a study that aims to look at the display verbal and nonverbal language. Impression management that led to the art of managing the impression of a series of acts with caution, such as gestures, speech errors or desired action such as making a scene. Based on this research problem how impression management through verbal and nonverbal language they display in adapting themselves to the Sundanese culture. The goal is to find and categorize impression management through verbal and nonverbal language which they appear in the adaptation to the Sundanese culture. For the achievement of the objectives of this study used qualitative research methods by collecting data through participant observation or participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentary studies. Researchers involved in adapting to the culture and see the Sundanese ethnic Bugis people to interact directly with the Sundanese. The result found is impression management is done through verbal language informant is using Indonesian language while maintaining a dialect or accent is thick Bugis, although it has long remained defensively Bugisnya accent. Display shown is nonverbal language while maintaining intonation and sound a bit harsh with a fixed smile and friendly which is also in accordance with the character of ethnic Bugis traditional manners.

    Pemahaman Dampak Game Online pada Anak-Anak Nelayan di Kota Makassar

    This study aims to categorize the understanding of fishermen's children on the use of online games and the barriers to understanding the impact of online games on fisher children in Makassar City. This research uses a qualitative approach referring to case studies. Data were collected through non-participant observation and in-depth interviews with children aged 7-12 years selected by purposive sampling. The results showed that the understanding of fishermen's children's impact on online games has three categories: high understanding categories, characteristics of low duration and frequency, and increased interactivity playing with peers. In moderate understanding, children tend to share their time playing online games and learning with minimal time duration and frequency. In the low comprehension category, the characteristics of very intensive children have a very high duration and frequency of playing online games. The level of interactivity with peers is low. Second, the obstacles are the inadequate understanding of online games' impact on fishing communities due to parents' lack of supervision and assistance when using smartphones. Online games have the potential to lead to online game addiction and less focus on school learning, and potentially cost money in internet cafesPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkategorisasi pemahaman anak-anak nelayan pada penggunaan game online dan hambatan-hambatan pemahaman dampak game online pada anak-anak Nelayan di Kota Makassar. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif mengacu pada studi kasus. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi non partisipan, dan wawancara mendalam. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa, pemahaman anak-anak nelayan terhadap dampak game online memiliki tiga kategori, kategori pemahaman tinggi, karakteristiknya durasi dan frekuensi rendah, interaktifitas tinggi bermain dengan teman sebaya. Kategori pemahaman sedang, anak cenderung membagi waktu bermain game online dan belajar dengan durasi dan frekuensi waktu minim, dan kategori pemahaman rendah, karakteristiknya anak sangat intensif memiliki durasi dan frekuensi bermain game online sangat tinggi, tingkat interaktifitas dengan teman sebaya rendah. Kedua, Hambatan-hambatan rendahnya pemahaman dampak game online di lingkungan masyarakat nelayan, akibat kurangnya pengawasan dan pendampingan orang tua saat menggunakan Smartphone. Game online berpotensi menimbulkan kecanduan game online dan kurang fokus pada pembelajaran sekolah, dan berpotensi menghabiskan biaya di warung internet

    Stigma dan sanksi sosial mantan narapidana dalam budaya Bugis Makassar masih identik dengan nilai-nilai siri’. Mantan narapidana cenderung memiliki kegelisahan dan ketidakpastian dalam konteks komunikasi kelompok ketika proses interaksi awal. Identitas mantan narapidana menjadi faktor penghambat dalam berinteraksi dengan masyarakat Bugis Makassar. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengekplorasi, mengidentifikasi, dan mengkategorisasi pola kegelisahan dan ketidakpastian mantan narapidana dalam konteks komunikasi kelompok budaya Bugis Makassar. Pendekatan penelitian kualitatif mengacu pada studi kasus mantan narapidana yang secara psikologis mengalami kegelisahan dan ketidakpastian mulai interaksi awal dan interaksi langsung dengan masyarakat Bugis Makassar. Studi kasus berfokus pada mantan narapidana laki-laki dan perempuan dengan pola kejahatan yang berbeda. Hasil Penelitian mengidenfikasi kasus mantan narapidana yang cenderung tertutup berkomunikasi dalam kelompok Bugis Makassar. Pola kegelisahan dan ketidakpastian menyebabkan mantan narapidana menggunakan strategi mengurangi ketidakpastian yakni, strategi pasif (passive strategy) ditandai penarikan diri dan sikap pasif dan strategi aktif (active strategy) membuka diri dan aktif dalam berinteraksi dan berkomunikasi dalam kelompok budaya Bugis Makassar). Hasil penelitian bermanfaat bagi masyarakat Bugis Makassar untuk lebih terbuka, menghilangkan stigma negatif dan menerima identitas mantan narapidana dalam lingkungannya. Pihak Lembaga Pemasyarakatan dapat lebih mengintensifkan pola pembinaan dan persiapan mental narapidana ketika bebas dan menjalankan kehidupan bermasyarakat untuk lebih terbuka berinteraksi dalam kelompoknya

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan AIDA terhadap peningkatan brand awareness PT Ace Hardware Indonesia, Tbk Cabang Makassar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif yang diuraikan secara deskriptif dan dilaksanakan di PT Ace Hardware Indoneisia Tbk Cabang Makassar. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan meliputi pembagian kuesioner kepada pengunjung yang datang di toko Ace Hardware, Tbk Cabang Makassar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan AIDA di PT Ace Hardware Indonesia, Tbk Cabang Makassar Secara parsial attention, interest dan desire dari pengunjung berpengaruh positif dan signifikan sedangkan action tidak berpengaruh positif tidak siginikan terhadap brand awareness oleh PT. ACE Hardware Indonesia, Tbk. Secara simultan AIDA dari pengunjung berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap brand awareness oleh PT. ACE Hardware Indonesia, Tbk yang berarti ketika AIDA dari pengunjung meningkat maka brand awaress perusahaan akan meningkat
