Objective: The aim of this study was to present the mid- to long-term results of subcutaneous anterior transposition of the ulnar nerve in the treatment of cubital tunnel syndrome. Methods: The study retrospectively evaluated 33 patients (24 males, 9 females; mean age: 48 years; range: 26 to 59 years) who underwent subcutaneous transposition of the ulnar nerve. Mean follow-up period was 4 years 9 months (range: 2 years 6 months to 8 years). Modified McGowan's classification was used for preoperative scoring and the Wilson & Krout classification for postoperative clinical evaluation. :Preoperatively 5 patients (15%) had Grade 1, 7(21%) had Grade 2A, 9 (27%) had Grade 2B, and 12 (36%) had Grade 3 neuropathy. Results: There were excellent results in 24 patients (73%), good in 7 (21%), fair in 1 (3%), and poor in one (3%). The patient with the poor result had developed neuropathy following a crush injury. There was a negative correlation between the preoperative McGowan grade and the postoperative Wilson & Krout score (p<0.05, r=-0.43). The success rate of the operation was significantly lower in patient groups as the time from symptom onset increased (p<0.05). There were no complications. Conclusion: Subcutaneous anterior transposition of the ulnar nerve is an effective and reliable surgical method with a low complication rate for the treatment of cubital tunnel syndrome

Evaluation with stream characteristics of downstream flood problems after dam construction

The food may cause serious loss of life and property. The evaluation of food events is necessary for the planning and design of engineering projects. In a dam, food problems should be considered for both upstream and downstream conditions. The characteristics of food problems can be derived from observation of dam sites. Tis paper aims to evaluate the impact of food hazards from spillway based on downstream conditions after dam construction. Also, the paper discusses downstream food problems depending on stream characteristics in an example dam site. In results, three reasons are determined for downstream foods problems: control problems of spillway gates, the naturally developing vegetation through channel flow line and incompetence of stream cross-section for carrying of food flows. Therefore, downstream conditions should be investigated before dam construction. Tis investigation can be considered in the planning phase. In addition, the cross-section and longitudinal profile of stream should be controlled via maintenance of stream after dam construction. In stream cross-section problems (such as vegetation, incompetence and irregularities), some modifications (e.g. straighten, deepen, and widen) can be applied with engineering works. This article analyzes the autobiographic passage in rhymed prose that constitutes the fifth chapter of the work The Form of the World, by 13th-century Jewish thinker Isaac ibn Laṭif (ca. 1210-ca. 1280). In this passage, expressed in the first person, the author describes his personal quest for enlightenment among traditional rabbinic scholars, those whom we would call today “kabbalists” (i.e., “those who have entered the garden of the pomegranates”), and philosophers. Finally, the author presents his own enlightenment as a quasiprophetic experience prompted by a personal exegetical engagement with the biblical text.

Existentialism in Turkish Theater, Master Thesis, Ankara, 2021. The first effects of existentialism in Turkish literature began with the publication of articles introducing the trend in newspapers and magazines in the 1950s. Existentialism is not with scientific writing as in other philosophical movements; It has emerged with literary text types. Therefore, the relationship that existentialism has established with literature is stronger than other philosophical movements. Its influence in our literature has increased especially in the 1960s and 1970s, and it continues today. In our study, we tried to show that the existentialism movement, which has an effect especially in literary genres such as story, novel and poetry, has an effect on the works written in the theater genre by the writers who consciously prefer this trend in other text types. Alienation, loneliness, suicide, which are the basic topics of existentialism, and the effects of modern life on human beings appear as the main subject and theme in the texts we have examined. The basic values of existentialism appear in the theater texts written, in the dialogues of the text heroes by using the possibilities of the theater genre, in the explanatory sections where the moods of the heroes are told, and in the decoration arrangements. In the first part of the thesis, after focusing on how the existentialist movement emerged in Turkish literature and how its effects occurred, it was tried to show the effects of Bilge Karasu, Güner Sümer and Oğuz Atay on their theater genre works. The primary sources in our study are the printed theater texts of the authors. Based on these texts, the effects of existentialism in our theater have been tried to be determined. With the improvements and demands in the realm of language teaching and learning there have been numerous studies conducted on the importance and the role of microteaching in ELT for the last decades. The present study was developed in order to investigate the attitudes of the Turkish students at ELT Department in the spring semester of the academic year 2014-2015. The participants in this study were 72 students who studied in the English Language Teaching (ELT) program at Hacettepe University, Turkey. The study has a mixed method, both quantitative and qualitative which will analyze the effects of independent variables such as gender, GPA and grade on students' attitudes towards microteaching. The instrument that was used in this study was developed by Dweikat (2009) with 55-items, which uses five Likert-type responses. The questionnaire was first piloted by the researcher with 30 students then administered to the all participants. For the qualitative part of the data collection, 4 students of who participated the research were interviewed on their attitudes towards microteaching. The findings of the research showed that all the students had a positive perception of microteaching and various variables like gender, GPA and grade of the students did not have a significant effect on their attitudes towards microteaching. Since the second half of the twentieth century the view of listening skills in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) has tremendously changed. There has been a constant move from a purely linguistic listening perception towards one which includes many aspects and facets in relation to the cultural constructs, topic familiarity, discourse clues and pragmatic conventions (Hinkel, 2006). This quantitative study was an attempt to discover the perceptions of the EFL prep school students of their Listening skills in English courses and if they have any impact on their learning process and whether they can be predictive for their academic success regarding their Listening course scores. The study group of this study consisted of 95 EFL prep school students (62 females, 33 males) in academic year of 2015-2016 fall term at Hacettepe University in Ankara. All students were Turkish, of similar cultural and linguistic background. The students were composed of levels B1 and B2+. For the collection of the data a 5-point Likert type questionnaire with 41 items developed by Lotfi (2012) was administered and the students were asked to write their biographical information like their age, gender, type of high school graduation and Listening scores. The statistical descriptives, MANOVA and Regression tests were run in this study to find out the answers to the research questions. The findings and the results are discussed and presented in the full paper along with the recommendations and limitations of the study. (C) 2016 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.Wo
