The K^*_0(800) scalar resonance from Roy-Steiner representations of pi K scattering
We discuss the existence of the light scalar meson K^*_0(800) (also called
kappa) in a rigorous way, by showing the presence of a pole in the pi K --> pi
K amplitude on the second Riemann sheet. For this purpose, we study the domain
of validity of two classes of Roy-Steiner representations in the complex energy
plane. We prove that one of them is valid in a region sufficiently broad in the
imaginary direction. From this representation, we compute the l=0 partial wave
in the complex plane with neither additional approximation nor model
dependence, relying only on experimental data. A scalar resonance with
strangeness S=1 is found with the following mass and width: E_kappa = 658 \pm
13 MeV and Gamma_kappa = 557 \pm 24 MeV.Comment: 16 pages, 8 figures. Domain of validity of a Roy-Steiner

Comments on the Quark Content of the Scalar Meson
Based on the measurements of we determine, in
a model independent way, the allowed content in the scalar meson
. We find that, on the one hand, if this isoscalar resonance is a
pure state [ , a very
large -annihilation term will be needed to accommodate . On the other hand, the component of
should be small enough to avoid excessive induced
from the external -emission. Measurement of production in the
decay will be useful to test the above picture. For the
decay which is kinematically barely or even not
allowed, depending on the mass of , we find that the finite width
effect of plays a crucial role on the resonant three-body decay

Comment on Intrinsic and dynamically generated scalar meson states
The scalar-meson assignments of Shakin and Wang in a generalized
Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model are contradicted by recent experimental information.
Also the strict distinction made by these authors between ``intrinsic'' and
``dynamically generated'' states is contested, as well as a number of other
statements.Comment: 7 pages, (v2 cosmetics, v3 corrections in one reference), to be

Parity Doubling Among the Baryons
We study the evidence for and possible origins of parity doubling among the
baryons. First we explore the experimental evidence, finding a significant
signal for parity doubling in the non-strange baryons, but little evidence
among strange baryons. Next we discuss potential explanations for this
phenomenon. Possibilities include suppression of the violation of the flavor
singlet axial symmetry () of QCD, which is broken by the triangle
anomaly and by quark masses. A conventional Wigner-Weyl realization of the
chiral symmetry would also result in parity
doubling. However this requires the suppression of families of \emph{chirally
invariant} operators by some other dynamical mechanism. In this scenario the
parity doubled states should decouple from pions. We discuss other explanations
including connections to chiral invariant short distance physics motivated by
large arguments as suggested by Shifman and others, and intrinsic
deformation of relatively rigid highly excited hadrons, leading to parity
doubling on the leading Regge trajectory. Finally we review the spectroscopic
consequences of chiral symmetry using a formalism introduced by Weinberg, and
use it to describe two baryons of opposite parity.Comment: 32 pages, 8 figures; v2 revised and expanded; submitted to Phys. Re
Masses of light tetraquarks and scalar mesons in the relativistic quark model
Masses of the ground state light tetraquarks are dynamically calculated in
the framework of the relativistic diquark-antidiquark picture. The internal
structure of the diquark is taken into account by calculating the form factor
of the diquark-gluon interaction in terms of the overlap integral of the
diquark wave functions. It is found that scalar mesons with masses below 1 GeV:
f_0(600) (\sigma), K^*_0(800) (\kappa), f_0(980) and a_0(980) agree well with
the light tetraquark interpretation.Comment: 9 pages, Report-no adde
Glueball spectrum based on a rigorous three-dimensional relativistic equation for two-gluon bound states I: Derivation of the relativistic equation
A rigorous three-dimensional relativistic equation satisfied by two-gluon
bound states is derived from the QCD with massive gluons. With the gluon fields
and the quark fields being expanded in terms of the gluon multipole fields and
the spherical Dirac spinors respectively, the equation is well established in
the angular momentum representation and hence is much convenient for solving
the problem of two-gluon glueball spectra. In particular, the interaction
kernel in the equation is exactly derived and given a closed expression which
includes all the interactions taking place in the two-gluon glueballs. The
kernel contains only a few types of Green's functions and commutators.
Therefore, it is not only easily calculated by the perturbation method, but
also provides a suitable basis for nonperturbative investigations
Glueball spectrum based on a rigorous three-dimensional relativistic equation for two-gluon bound states II: calculation of the glueball spectrum
In the preceding paper, a rigorous three-dimensional relativistic equation
for two-gluon bound states was derived from the QCD with massive gluons and
represented in the angular momentum representation. In order to apply this
equation to calculate the glueball spectrum, in this paper, the equation is
recast in an equivalent three-dimensional relativistic equation satisfied by
the two-gluon positive energy state amplitude. The interaction Hamiltonian in
the equation is exactly derived and expressed as a perturbative series. The
first term in the series describes the one-gluon exchange interaction which
includes fully the retardation effect in it. This term plus the linear
confining potential are chosen to be the interaction Hamiltonian and employed
in the practical calculation. With the integrals containing three and four
spherical Bessel functions in the QCD vertices being analytically calculated,
the interaction Hamiltonian is given an explicit expression in the angular
momentum representation. Numerically solving the relativistic equation with
taking the contributions arising from the retardation effect and the
longitudinal mode of gluon fields into account, a set of masses for the
and glueball states are
obtained and are in fairly good agreement with the predictions given by the
lattice simulatio
Study of the , , and in the radiative decays
In this paper we present an approach to study the radiative decay modes of
the into a photon and one of the tensor mesons ,
, as well as the scalar ones and .
Especially we compare predictions that emerge from a scheme where the states
appear dynamically in the solution of vector meson--vector meson scattering
amplitudes to those from a (admittedly naive) quark model. We provide evidence
that it might be possible to distinguish amongst the two scenarios, once
improved data are available.Comment: The large Nc argument improved; version published in EPJA
Precision Pion-Proton Elastic Differential Cross Sections at Energies Spanning the Delta Resonance
A precision measurement of absolute pi+p and pi-p elastic differential cross
sections at incident pion laboratory kinetic energies from T_pi= 141.15 to
267.3 MeV is described. Data were obtained detecting the scattered pion and
recoil proton in coincidence at 12 laboratory pion angles from 55 to 155
degrees for pi+p, and six angles from 60 to 155 degrees for pi-p. Single arm
measurements were also obtained for pi+p energies up to 218.1 MeV, with the
scattered pi+ detected at six angles from 20 to 70 degrees. A flat-walled,
super-cooled liquid hydrogen target as well as solid CH2 targets were used. The
data are characterized by small uncertainties, ~1-2% statistical and ~1-1.5%
normalization. The reliability of the cross section results was ensured by
carrying out the measurements under a variety of experimental conditions to
identify and quantify the sources of instrumental uncertainty. Our lowest and
highest energy data are consistent with overlapping results from TRIUMF and
LAMPF. In general, the Virginia Polytechnic Institute SM95 partial wave
analysis solution describes our data well, but the older Karlsruhe-Helsinki PWA
solution KH80 does not.Comment: 39 pages, 22 figures (some with quality reduced to satisfy ArXiv

Couplings of light I=0 scalar mesons to simple operators in the complex plane
The flavour and glue structure of the light scalar mesons in QCD are probed
by studying the couplings of the I=0 mesons and to the
operators , and to two photons. The Roy dispersive
representation for the amplitude is used to determine the
pole positions as well as the residues in the complex plane. On the real axis,
is constrained to solve the Roy equation together with elastic
unitarity up to the K\Kbar threshold leading to an improved description of
the . The problem of using a two-particle threshold as a matching
point is discussed. A simple relation is established between the coupling of a
scalar meson to an operator and the value of the related pion form-factor
computed at the resonance pole. Pion scalar form-factors as well as two-photon
partial-wave amplitudes are expressed as coupled-channel Omn\`es dispersive
representations. Subtraction constants are constrained by chiral symmetry and
experimental data. Comparison of our results for the couplings with
earlier determinations of the analogous couplings of the lightest I=1 and
scalar mesons are compatible with an assignment of the ,
, , into a nonet. Concerning the gluonic operator
we find a significant coupling to both the and the
