Coupled Fluids-Radiation Analysis of a High-Mass Mars Vehicle

    Get PDF
The NEQAIR line-by-line radiation code has been incorporated into the DPLR Navier-Stokes flow solver such that the NEQAIR subroutines are now callable functions of DPLR. The coupled DPLR-NEQAIR code was applied to compute the convective and radiative heating rates over high-mass Mars entry vehicles. Two vehicle geometries were considered - a 15 m diameter 70-degree sphere cone configuration and a slender, mid-L/D vehicle with a diameter of 5 m called an Ellipsled. The entry masses ranged from 100 to 165 metric tons. Solutions were generated for entry velocities ranging from 6.5 to 9.1 km/s. The coupled fluids-radiation solutions were performed at the peak heating location along trajectories generated by the Traj trajectory analysis code. The impact of fluids-radiation coupling is a function of the level of radiative heating and the freestream density and velocity. For the high-mass Mars vehicles examined in this study, coupling effects were greatest for entry velocities above 8.5 km/s where the surface radiative heating was reduced by up 17%. Generally speaking, the Ellipsled geometry experiences a lower peak radiative heating rate but a higher peak turbulent convective heating rate than the MSL-based vehicle

The Canadian Regional North American Residential Preference Surfaces

    Get PDF
The objective of this research was to examine the North American residential preference surfaces of the six traditional regions of Canada. Each regional surface demonstrated a decided spatial regularity in preferences. This regularity was distorted somewhat by local biases and the location of the sample tested relative to the rest of the surface. There was a general tendency to rate the local area high and for preference to decline with increasing distance from the local area. In addition, each surface indicated a strong preference for the west coast here called an ‘Eden’ effect. A ridge of high desirability generally joined the home and ‘Eden’ areas and was generally associated with the Canada corridor. Preference declined rapidly to the north and south from the high east-west ridge of residential desirability. The regional views were also combined to provide a Canadian model of residential desirability. Based upon the general characteristics observed in these surfaces, and ‘Ideal’ model of residential desirability which could be applicable to any surface was hypothesized

Laughing at or with the text?

This study of text/image relations in manuscripts of Burgundian prose romances illuminated by the Wavrin Master analyses how the verbal comedy of the narrative is represented visually. Whether this is through direct pictorial equivalents to amusing episodes in the text or “translation” of these episodes into the visual language of clothing, gesture and symbolism, the illuminator can be shown to be faithful to the narrative in deploying comedy for the didactic instruction of the reader/viewer.L’examen des rapports texte/image dans les manuscrits de romans bourguignons en prose illustrés par le Maître de Wavrin révèle les moyens dont il use pour représenter dans ses miniatures la comédie verbale du texte.

Free range chicken farms - odour emissions and nutrient management

    Get PDF
This report focuses on odour emissions and nutrient management from free range meat chicken farms. Specifically – odour emissions from the sheds and free range area as well as potential nitrogen and phosphorus loss from the range areas in the soil and in runoff. There is currently a lack of information relating to free range meat chicken farms when it comes to odour emissions and nutrient loss. Improved understanding of the emissions from free range farms will support the continued growth of the free range sector in Australia
