    D^+ \to K^- \p^+ \p^+ : the low-energy sector

An effective SU(3)×SU(3)SU(3)\times SU(3) chiral lagrangian, which includes scalar resonances, is used to describe the process D^+ \rar K^- \p^+ \p^+ at low-energies. Our main result is a set of five SS-wave amplitudes, suited to be used in analyses of production data.Comment: Talk given at SCADRON 70 - Workshop on Scalar Mesons and Related Topics - Lisbon - February 200

RFX-1, a putative alpha Adducin interacting protein in a human kidney library

    Get PDF
Adducin regulates tubular absorption of sodium by modulating the expression levels of the sodium-potassium-ATPase in renal tubular cells. Adducin is a candidate gene in the pathogenesis of hypertension. Yeast two hybrid screen showed a specific interaction between human alpha Adducin and the regulatory factor for X box (RFX-1), a nuclear protein that down regulates the expression of several proteins in non neuronal cells. The interaction was confirmed in cells through co-immunoprecipitation and colocalization experiments. The binding of alpha Adducin to RFX-I and their nuclear co-localization suggests that Adducin can have a role in modulating the transcriptional regulating activity of RFX-I

K pi vector form factor constrained by tau ---> K pi nu_tau and K_l3 decays

Dispersive representations of the Kpi vector and scalar form factors are used to fit the spectrum of tau ---> K pi nu_tau obtained by the Belle collaboration incorporating constraints from results for K_l3 decays. The slope and curvature of the vector form factor are obtained directly from the data through the use of a three-times-subtracted dispersion relation. We find λ+=(25.49±0.31)×103\lambda_+'=(25.49 \pm 0.31) \times 10^{-3} and λ+"=(12.22±0.14)×104\lambda_+"= (12.22 \pm 0.14) \times 10^{-4}. From the pole position on the second Riemann sheet the mass and width of the K(892)±K^*(892)^{\pm} are found to be mK(892)±=892.0±0.5m_{K^*(892)^\pm}=892.0\pm 0.5~MeV and ΓK(892)±=46.5±1.1\Gamma_{K^*(892)^\pm}=46.5\pm 1.1~MeV. The phase-space integrals needed for K_l3 decays are calculated as well. Furthermore, the Kpi isospin-1/2 P-wave threshold parameters are derived from the phase of the vector form factor. For the scattering length and the effective range we find respectively a11/2=(0.166±0.004)mπ3a_{1}^{1/2}\,= ( 0.166\pm 0.004)\,m_\pi^{-3} and b11/2=(0.258±0.009)mπ5b_{1}^{1/2}\,=( 0.258\pm 0.009)\,m_\pi^{-5}.Comment: 22 pages, 4 figure

Perinatal outcome of monochorionic triamniotic triplet pregnancy: multicenter cohort study

Objective Monochorionic (MC) triplet pregnancies are extremely rare and information on these pregnancies and their complications is limited. We aimed to investigate the risk of early and late pregnancy complications, perinatal outcome and the timing and methods of fetal intervention in these pregnancies. Methods This was a multicenter retrospective cohort study of MC triamniotic (TA) triplet pregnancies managed in 21 participating centers around the world from 2007 onwards. Data on maternal age, mode of conception, diagnosis of major fetal structural anomalies or aneuploidy, gestational age (GA) at diagnosis of anomalies, twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), twin anemia-polycythemia sequence (TAPS), twin reversed arterial perfusion (TRAP) sequence and or selective fetal growth restriction (sFGR) were retrieved from patient records. Data on antenatal interventions were collected, including data on selective fetal reduction (three to two or three to one), laser surgery and any other active fetal intervention (including amniodrainage). Data on perinatal outcome were collected, including numbers of live birth, intrauterine demise, neonatal death, perinatal death and termination of fetus or pregnancy (TOP). Neonatal data such as GA at birth, birth weight, admission to neonatal intensive care unit and neonatal morbidity were also collected. Perinatal outcomes were assessed according to whether the pregnancy was managed expectantly or underwent fetal intervention. Results Of an initial cohort of 174 MCTA triplet pregnancies, 11 underwent early TOP, three had an early miscarriage, six were lost to follow-up and one was ongoing at the time of writing. Thus, the study cohort included 153 pregnancies, of which the majority (92.8%) were managed expectantly. The incidence of pregnancy affected by one or more fetal structural abnormality was 13.7% (21/153) and that of TRAP sequence was 5.2% (8/153). The most common antenatal complication related to chorionicity was TTTS, which affected just over one quarter (27.6%; 42/152, after removing a pregnancy with TOP < 24 weeks for fetal anomalies) of the pregnancies, followed by sFGR (16.4%; 25/152), while TAPS (spontaneous or post TTTS with or without laser treatment) occurred in only 4.6% (7/152) of pregnancies. No monochorionicity-related antenatal complication was recorded in 49.3% (75/152) of pregnancies. Survival was apparently associated largely with the development of these complications: there was at least one survivor beyond the neonatal period in 85.1% (57/67) of pregnancies without antenatal complications, in 100% (25/25) of those complicated by sFGR and in 47.6% (20/42) of those complicated by TTTS. The overall rate of preterm birth prior to 28 weeks was 14.5% (18/124) and that prior to 32 weeks' gestation was 49.2% (61/124).Conclusion Monochorionicity-related complications, which can impact adversely perinatal outcome, occur in almost half of MCTA triplet pregnancies, creating a challenge with regard to counseling, surveillance and management. First report on dung beetles in intra-Amazonian savannahs in Roraima, Brazil

This is the first study to address the dung beetle (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae) diversity in intra-Amazonian savannahs in the state of Roraima, Brazil. Our aim was to survey the dung beetle fauna associated with these savannahs (regionally called 'lavrado'), since little is known about the dung beetles from this environment. We conducted three field samples using pitfall traps baited with human dung in savannah areas near the city of Boa Vista during the rainy seasons of 1996, 1997, and 2008. We collected 383 individuals from ten species, wherein six have no previous record in intra-Amazonian savannahs. The most abundant species were Ontherus appendiculatus (Mannerheim, 1829), Canthidium aff. humerale (Germar, 1813), Dichotomius nisus (Olivier, 1789), and Pseudocanthon aff. xanthurus (Blanchard, 1846). We believe that knowing the dung beetles diversity associated with the intra-Amazonian savannahs is ideal for understanding the occurrence and distribution of these organisms in a highly threatened environment, it thus being the first step towards conservation strategy development
