Inner Preputial Flap as Tunica Albuginea Replacement in The Management of Previously

Objectives: To assess the efficacy of an inner preputial skin flap as replacement for the tunica albuginea of the corpus cavernosum after excision of fibrous plaque. Patients and Methods: In this retrospective study we evaluated 5 men who presented with impotence, chordee, painful erection and/or painful coitus after previously undiagnosed or untreated penile fracture. In two patients soft tissue X-rays suggested calcification of the plaque, while ultrasonography revealed extension of fibrosis in four cases. In all patients the plaque was excised and the defect in the tunica albuginea was closed with an inner preputial pedicle skin flap. Results: The flaps had taken well in all cases at 3 months follow-up and all patients reported having normal sexual intercourse. Conclusion: Surgical excision is the treatment of choice for management of symptomatic fibrous plaques occurring in undiagnosed, untreated or conservatively managed penile fracture. A defect of more than 1.5 cm after excision of the plaque requires tunica replacement, and an inner preputial flap is a good replacement.Key Words:  Penile fracture, complications, fibrous plaque, tunica replacement, inner preputial flap, erectile dysfunctio

In an unusual instance, live oil sardine in very good numbers were handpicked from the beach at Uchila and Ullal, near Someshwara 20 km south of Mangalore. The beach at Someshwara is very steep and the sea is very rough especially during the monsoon months

Microstructural stability of wrought, laser and electron beam glazed NARloy-Z alloy at elevated temperatures

Microstructure of wrought, laser, and electron-beam glazed NARloy-Z(Cu-3 wt.% Ag-0.5 wt.% Zr) was investigated for thermal stability at elevated temperatures (539 to 760 C (1,100 to 1,400 F)) up to 94 h. Optical and scanning electron microscopy and electron probe microanalysis were employed for studying microstructural evolution and kinetics of precipitation. Grain boundary precipitation and precipitate free zones (PFZ's) were observed in the wrought alloy after exposing to temperatures above 605 C (1,120 F). The fine-grained microstructure observed in the laser and electron-beam glazed NARloy-Z was much more stable at elevated temperatures. Microstructural changes correlated well with hardness measurements

Mussel culture in mulky estuary, Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka during 1997-'99

During 1997-'98 seasons, the mussel culture activities were carried out at Mulky estuary with the active participation of local fishermen and the growth rate was studied. Culture work was continued at two places in Mulky estuary during 1998-'99 seasons. The growth rate of mussels in Chitrapu area was higher than that observed in Mulky area. During 1998-'99 seasons, the meat content of the harvested mussel was low as they had spawned before the harvest. The culture works carried out at Mulky estuary reveal that mussel culture can be profitabily done during October-May months in Mulky estuary. The fishermen group can take up the culture activities as a part-time venture as the culture involves minimum labour only during the initial period and thereafter it needs little husbandry work. There is good demand for mussels in monsoon months when supply of marine fish is less due to ban on mechanized fishing. Mussels harvested in May can be processed and marketed for sale during the lean season, for which infrastructural facilities have to be developed. Once the marketing infrastructure is developed mussel culture activities can be taken up by more fishermen group in a profitable manner

Acoustic-Phonon Mediated Cyclotron Resonance Power Absorption in Zinc Oxide Free-Standing Nanostructure

157-162The phenomenon of cyclotron resonance power absorption when electrons are scattered by acoustic-phonons in ZnO free standing nanostructure (FSNS) is presented. The calculation is based on quantum mechanical perturbation technique. The dependence of power absorption on frequency, magnetic field, temperature and thickness of the FSNS is presented. FWHM or line-width of the resonance power absorption peaks is calculated using profile method and the influence of magnetic field, temperature and thickness of the FSNS is investigated, that the line-width is proportional to magnetic field whereas it is independent of temperature and thickness of FSNS. This theoretical analysis gives insights about magneto-optical properties of FSNS of ZnO which is essential for further experimental investigations
