    Using the event calculus for tracking the normative state of contracts

    In this work, we have been principally concerned with the representation of contracts so that their normative state may be tracked in an automated fashion over their deployment lifetime. The normative state of a contract, at a particular time, is the aggregation of instances of normative relations that hold between contract parties at that time, plus the current values of contract variables. The effects of contract events on the normative state of a contract are specified using an XML formalisation of the Event Calculus, called ecXML. We use an example mail service agreement from the domain of web services to ground the discussion of our work. We give a characterisation of the agreement according to the normative concepts of: obligation, power and permission, and show how the ecXML representation may be used to track the state of the agreement, according to a narrative of contract events. We also give a description of a state tracking architecture, and a contract deployment tool, both of which have been implemented in the course of our work.

    Combining intersemiotic and interlingual translation in training programmes: A functional approach to museum audio description

    This paper seeks to put forward a didactic proposal focused on museum audio description (AD) to be implemented with post-graduate students attending a translation studies course within a Languages and Communication programme. The aim is to raise students’ awareness of translation and accessibility practices in the cultural and creative industries and train specialised translators and describers. The proposal includes two different but complementary levels. On a more theoretical side, museum AD is introduced, both as a form of intersemiotic translation and as an interpretative tool in the museum’s wider communication framework. From a practical point of view, we draw on Mazur (2020), who exploited the functional model proposed by Nord (2018 [1997]) with her translation-oriented text analysis in the context of screen AD training. We suggest that it may also be adapted to serve as a guiding methodology for prospective museum translators and describers. In doing so, intersemiotic translation is combined with interlingual translation to train students to (1) audio describe specific artworks/artefacts in their first language (L1) and (2) translate the produced ADs into their second language (L2)

    Role of potassium channels in the antinociception induced by agonists of alpha2-adrenoceptors

The effect of the administration of pertussis toxin (PTX) as well as modulators of different subtypes of K(+) channels on the antinociception induced by clonidine and guanabenz was evaluated in the mouse hot plate test. 2. Pretreatment with pertussis toxin (0.25 Όg per mouse i.c.v.) 7 days before the hot-plate test, prevented the antinociception induced by both clonidine (0.08–0.2 mg kg(−1), s.c.) and guanabenz (0.1–0.5 mg kg(−1), s.c.). 3. The administration of the K(ATP) channel openers minoxidil (10 Όg per mouse, i.c.v.), pinacidil (25 Όg per mouse, i.c.v.) and diazoxide (100 mg kg(−1), p.o.) potentiated the antinociception produced by clonidine and guanabenz whereas the K(ATP) channel blocker gliquidone (6 Όg per mouse, i.c.v.) prevented the α(2) adrenoceptor agonist-induced analgesia. 4. Pretreatment with an antisense oligonucleotide (aODN) to mKv1.1, a voltage-gated K(+) channel, at the dose of 2.0 nmol per single i.c.v. injection, prevented the antinociception induced by both clonidine and guanabenz in comparison with degenerate oligonucleotide (dODN)-treated mice. 5. The administration of the Ca(2+)-gated K(+) channel blocker apamin (0.5–2.0 ng per mouse, i.c.v.) never modified clonidine and guanabenz analgesia. 6. At the highest effective doses, none of the drugs used modified animals' gross behaviour nor impaired motor coordination, as revealed by the rota-rod test. 7. The present data demonstrate that both K(ATP) and mKv1.1 K(+) channels represent an important step in the transduction mechanism underlying central antinociception induced by activation of α(2) adrenoceptors

    Evaluation of Common Bean Varieties for Yield and Yield Component in Segen Area Peoples Zone SNNPRS, Ethiopia

    Studies on the evaluation of variety performance provide opportunities to increase productivity of common bean. Therefore, the current study evaluates the performance of varieties on yield and yield components of common bean during the main cropping season of 2015 and 2016 at four locations in Segen Zone,Konso woreda (Southwestern Ethiopia) with the objectives of  selecting high yielding common bean varieties those are adapted to the study area. Fifteen released common bean varieties and one local cultivar were planted in randomized complete block design with three replications. The analysis revealed that significant variation for all traits except maturity date. Highest yield obtained from Nasir(2136 kgha-1) and Hawassa dume (1948 kgha-1) followed by Sari (1751 kgha-1) were as at Addis Gebere, high grain yield was obtained from Sari (2227 kgha-1), Hawassa dume (2111 kgha-1) and Dimtu (2073 kgha-1). For average mean yield from overall location, high yield obtained from Hawassa dume (2129 kgha-1) and Nasir (2002 kgha-1) followed by Sari (1989 kgha-1). Results revealed that Hawassa dume, Nasir and Sari were best performed and better adapted varieties than the others respectively. Therefore, the above mentioned varieties are promising varieties for the production area and recommendable for area with similar agro-ecologies.     Neuregulin 3 Mediates Cortical Plate Invasion and Laminar Allocation of GABAergic Interneurons

    Neural circuits in the cerebral cortex consist of excitatory pyramidal cells and inhibitory interneurons. These two main classes of cortical neurons follow largely different genetic programs, yet they assemble into highly specialized circuits during development following a very precise choreography. Previous studies have shown that signals produced by pyramidal cells influence the migration of cortical interneurons, but the molecular nature of these factors has remained elusive. Here, we identified Neuregulin 3 (Nrg3) as a chemoattractive factor expressed by developing pyramidal cells that guides the allocation of cortical interneurons in the developing cortical plate. Gain- and loss-of-function approaches reveal that Nrg3 modulates the migration of interneurons into the cortical plate in a process that is dependent on the tyrosine kinase receptor ErbB4. Perturbation of Nrg3 signaling in conditional mutants leads to abnormal lamination of cortical interneurons. Nrg3 is therefore a critical mediator in the assembly of cortical inhibitory circuits

    ASCA and BeppoSAX observations of the peculiar X-ray source 4U1700+24/HD154791

    The X-ray source 4U1700+24/HD154791 is one of the few galactic sources whose counterpart is an evolved M star. In X-rays the source shows extreme erratic variability and a complex and variable spectrum. While this strongly suggests accretion onto a compact object, no clear diagnosis of binarity was done up to now.
