    Intervention of Talent Management Impact on the HR Practices among the Employees Working in the Software Industries.

    Recruitment of applicants with highly valued talents, provision of continual learning and development opportunities, reward of important team members, and encouragement of advancement within the organization are all common and best practices in talent management (more on these practices below). Numerous examples exist of Indian businesses successfully keeping key employees on staff. Such organizations use alternative methods of talent management. In majority of these situations, such Indian organizations have a heritage of at least hundred years. Some startups and family-run enterprises are also successful in the talent acquisition and retention arena. This case study looks at how one Indian company's talent management practices led to the retention of a key employee. The case, which is based on research on the methods used by several Indian companies to manage their employees' talents, stresses the value of teamwork. The concept of collegiality in the context of talent management has received little attention. This case note is an attempt to spark conversations on how organizations might improve their talent management practices via the use of collaborative strategies.     Inter observer variability in the interpretation of atypical squamous cells in Pap smear examination

    Introduction : The incidence of cervical cancer has decreased due to wide spread use of Papanicolaou test (Pap) as a screening method to detect early cervical lesions. According to The Bethesda System 2001, atypical squamous cells are divided into two groups: Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US), atypical squamous cells cannot exclude HSIL (ASC-H). As it is known, the microscopic interpretation of cytologic specimens is a subjective procedure highly dependent on skills and experience of the investigator. ASC reflects a diagnosis of uncertainty and is used as tool to measure interlaboratory and intralaboratory control for quality control purposes. Aims and Objectives: To determine the inter observer variation in interpreting ASC variants in conventional pap smears based on the Bethesda system of reporting cervical cytology (2001). Materials & Methods: A total of 833 cervical smears were sent for Pap test during the period July 2013 to –June 2014. Slides of all the cases of ASC and appropriate number of smears diagnosed as negative for intraepithelial lesion or malignancy were collected with relevant history. An observational study was performed with two evaluators blinded to the original reports. The review reports from the evaluators were compared with original reports to detect accuracy of reporting atypical squamous cells. Results : Review of data showed 36 low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL), 8 high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) and 17 cases coded as atypical squamous cells (ASCUS and ASC-H). ASCUS/SIL ratio was 0.33. All the agreements were found out to be statistically significant and the agreement between original diagnosis and observer 1 was found out to be stronger compared to others. Conclusion: Interobserver reproducibility in reporting cervical smears according to Bethesda system 2001 is not 100%, even after following strict Bethesda guidelines.     Premature Centromere Division and Spontaneous Abortion

    Premature Centromere Division (PCD) was observed in the chromosomes of metaphase spreads in a patient with the history of recurrent abortions. Short term leukocyte cultures were set up with blood sample from the woman with a history of recurrent abortions for the past four consequent years. 25 % of the metaphase spreads screened displayed premature centromere division of the chromosomes in each of the cells. This abnormal behavior of the centromeres may predispose the individual to cell division errors due to chromosome instability and the consequences of which may be a spontaneous abortion

    Prediction of outcomes in acute exacerbation of COPD with DECAF score and BAP 65 score in a rural population

    Background: Prognostic research in exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) requiring hospitalization has been limited and there appears to be little common ground between predictors of mortality in stable disease and during AECOPD. Furthermore, none of the prognostic tools developed in stable disease have been tested on hospitalised patients, and most require clinical measurements not routinely available at hospital admission. This study intends to test dyspnoea, eosinopenia, consolidation, acidemia, and atrial fibrillation (DECAF) and biological assessment profile (BAP) 65 Scores on Indian patients in a tertiary care set up and validate the same to be used as a routine and effective score in predicting the outcome in AECOPD.  Methods: Hospital based prospective observational study was carried out in 100 patients with AECOPD who was present to general medicine. DECAF and BAP-65 Scores were calculated. Data was analyzed using SPSS 22 version software.Results: In our study both DECAF score and BAP‑65 score performed equally well for prediction of need for Mechanical Ventilation. The AUROC for need for Mechanical Ventilation was 0.77 (95% CI=0.67–0.84) for DECAF score and 0.77 (95% CI=0.67–0.85) for BAP‑65 score. The AUROC for prediction of mortality for DECAF score was 0.83 (95% confidence interval [CI]=0.74–0.89) and for BAP‑65 score was 0.79 (95% CI=0.69–0.86).Conclusions: DECAF and BAP-65 are good and also equal in predicting mortality as well as need for mechanical ventilation. Both scores can be easily applicable in AECOPD patients, so that death during hospitalization for AECOPD and need for mechanical ventilation can be minimized.

    Antifungal attributes of Lactobacillus plantarum MYS6 against fumonisin producing Fusarium proliferatum associated with poultry feeds

    Fumonisins, being common in occurrence in maize-based feeds, pose a great threat to animal and human health. The present study is aimed at determining the antifungal activity of Lactobacillus plantarum MYS6 against a fumonisin producing fungus, Fusarium proliferatum MYS9. The isolate was subjected to standard tests for determining its probiotic attributes and antifungal properties. L. plantarum MYS6 thrived well at pH 3.0 and 6.0, and exhibited strong resistance up to 3% bile. The isolate showed a high degree of cell surface hydrophobicity corresponding to its strong adhesion to chicken crop epithelial cells. Coinoculation with the fungus on modified de Man Rogosa Sharpe medium revealed the inhibitory effect of L. plantarum MYS6 on fungal growth and biomass. Observation using scanning electron microscopy showed distortion of hyphal structures, swollen tips and disrupted conidia. Conidia germination inhibition assay restrained germination and showed deformed hyphae. The bioprotective feature of the isolate was evident by the inhibition of fungal development in maize-kernel treated with the cell free supernatant of L. plantarum MYS6. Both the isolate and its extracellular metabolites lowered fumonisin content in feed model up to 0.505 mg/Kg of feed and 0.3125 mg/Kg of feed respectively when compared to the level of 0.870 mg/Kg of feed in control. The major antifungal compounds produced by the isolate were 10-Octadecenoic acid, methyl ester; palmitic acid, methyl ester; heptadecanoic acid, 16-methyl ester; stearic acid and lauric acid. L. plantarum MYS6 reduced 61.7% of fumonisin possibly by a binding mechanism. These findings suggest the application of L. plantarum MYS6 as an efficient probiotic additive and biocontrol agent in feed used in poultry industry. Additionally, the antifungal metabolites pose a conspicuous inhibition of Fusarium growth and fumonisin production

    A study to assess the impact of SHGs in gender mainstreaming was undertaken among the SHG operating dry fish units at Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu. The analysis included performance assessment of the SHGs, gender analysis, empowerment analysis and economic feasibility analysis which were carried out based on the primary data collected from the members of the SHGs. The male and female counterparts of the families of SHG members were separately interviewed to assess the gender mainstreaming aspects in terms of equity and equality to access to resources, participation profile, decision making aspects, gender need analysis etc. Though majority of activities are female dominated, the male counterparts of the households also have definite role in decision making, purchase of accessories, sales, marketing etc. The indicative economics worked out for the economic feasibility analysis of the SHGs suggests that, the unit takes just one year to achieve break even. A case studywas documented as amoviewhich can be used as a case model for promoting group actionby mobilizingSHGsona sustainable basis

    First measurement of electron neutrino appearance in NOvA

    We report results from the first search for νμ→νe transitions by the NOvA experiment. In an exposure equivalent to 2.74×1020 protons on target in the upgraded NuMI beam at Fermilab, we observe 6 events in the Far Detector, compared to a background expectation of 0.99±0.11(syst) events based on the Near Detector measurement. A secondary analysis observes 11 events with a background of 1.07±0.14(syst). The 3.3σ excess of events observed in the primary analysis disfavors 0.1π<δCP<0.5π in the inverted mass hierarchy at the 90% C.L

    Apoptosis-like cell death in Leishmania donovani treated with KalsomeTM10, a new liposomal amphotericin B

    The present study aimed to elucidate the cell death mechanism in Leishmania donovani upon treatment with KalsomeTM10, a new liposomal amphotericin B. Methodology/Principal findings We studied morphological alterations in promastigotes through phase contrast and scanning electron microscopy. Phosphatidylserine (PS) exposure, loss of mitochondrial membrane potential and disruption of mitochondrial integrity was determined by flow cytometry using annexinV-FITC, JC-1 and mitotraker, respectively. For analysing oxidative stress, generation of H2O2 (bioluminescence kit) and mitochondrial superoxide O2 − (mitosox) were measured. DNA fragmentation was evaluated using terminal deoxyribonucleotidyl transferase mediated dUTP nick-end labelling (TUNEL) and DNA laddering assay. We found that KalsomeTM10 is more effective then Ambisome against the promastigote as well as intracellular amastigote forms. The mechanistic study showed that KalsomeTM10 induced several morphological alterations in promastigotes typical of apoptosis. KalsomeTM10 treatment showed a dose- and time-dependent exposure of PS in promastigotes. Further,study on mitochondrial pathway revealed loss of mitochondrial membrane potential as well as disruption in mitochondrial integrity with depletion of intracellular pool of ATP. KalsomeTM10 treated promastigotes showed increased ROS production, diminished GSH levels and increased caspase-like activity. DNA fragmentation and cell cycle arrest was observed in KalsomeTM10 treated promastigotes. Apoptotic DNA fragmentation was also observed in KalsomeTM10 treated intracellular amastigotes. KalsomeTM10 induced generation of ROS and nitric oxide leads to the killing of the intracellular parasites.
