Using the incremental Hole-drilling technique for measuring residual stresses in fibre-reinforce polymer composites
The Incremental hole-drilling technique (IHD) seems to be a promising technique, among the destructive (relaxation) techniques, to determine in-depth non-uniform residual stresses in fibre-reinforced polymer composites. Hence, valid theoretical approaches for IHD residual stress determination in composite laminates, based on a set of strain-depth relaxation curves, are needed. Nevertheless, the influence of the drilling process itself on the initial residual stress state, i.e. existing prior to hole drilling, must be verified first. In this work, the IHD residual stress evaluation procedures in composite laminates will be reviewed and an original hybrid experimental-numerical methodology will be used to quantify the residual strain induced by the drilling process. Thus, residual strains induced by ultra-high speed drilling processes on carbon-epoxy laminates (CFRPs) have been quantified. The results seem to show that IHD technique can be improved to be successfully applied for measuring residual stresses in CFRPs
Исследование влияния технологического процесса изготовления обмоток на дефектность корпусной изоляции асинхронных двигателей
В работе проведено исследование влияния колебаний режимов работы статорообмоточных станков WST-660 и пазоизолировочных станков ИПС-3 на дефектность корпусной изоляции. Получены математические модели дефектообразования в корпусной изоляции обмотки с учетом режимов работы технологического оборудования и качества материала корпусной изоляции в состоянии поставки. Установлено, что изменением режимов работы технологического оборудования можно добиться требуемого качества корпусной изоляции при максимальной производительности оборудования

Probing host pathogen cross-talk by transcriptional profiling of both Mycobacterium tuberculosis and infected human dendritic cells and macrophages
This study provides the proof of principle that probing the host and the microbe transcriptomes simultaneously is a valuable means to accessing unique information on host pathogen interactions. Our results also underline the extraordinary plasticity of host cell and pathogen responses to infection, and provide a solid framework to further understand the complex mechanisms involved in immunity to M. tuberculosis and in mycobacterial adaptation to different intracellular environments
Quadrupole correlations and inertial properties of rotating nuclei
The contribution of quantum shape fluctuations to inertial properties of
rotating nuclei has been analyzed for QQ-nuclear interaction using the random
phase approximation (RPA). The different recipes to treat the cranking mean
field plus RPA problem are considered. The effects of the dN=2 quadrupole
matrix elements and the role of the volume conservation condition are

Mutagenesis of the NaChBac sodium channel discloses a functional role for a conserved S6 asparagine
Asparagine is conserved in the S6 transmembrane segments of all voltage-gated sodium, calcium, and TRP channels identified to date. A broad spectrum of channelopathies including cardiac arrhythmias, epilepsy, muscle diseases, and pain disorders is associated with its mutation. To investigate its effects on sodium channel functional properties, we mutated the simple prokaryotic sodium channel NaChBac. Electrophysiological characterization of the N225D mutant reveals that this conservative substitution shifts the voltage-dependence of inactivation by 25 mV to more hyperpolarized potentials. The mutant also displays greater thermostability, as determined by synchrotron radiation circular dichroism spectroscopy studies of purified channels. Based on our analyses of high-resolution structures of NaChBac homologues, we suggest that the side-chain amine group of asparagine 225 forms one or more hydrogen bonds with different channel elements and that these interactions are important for normal channel function. The N225D mutation eliminates these hydrogen bonds and the structural consequences involve an enhanced channel inactivation
Social democracy, embeddedness and decommodification: On the conceptual innovations and intellectual affiliations of Karl Polanyi
Of the several debates that revolve around the work of the economic historian and political economist Karl Polanyi, one that continues to exercise minds concerns his analysis of, and political attitudes toward, post-war capitalism and the welfare state. Simplified a little, it is a debate with two sides. To borrow Iván Szelényi's terms, one side constructs a ‘hard’ Karl Polanyi, the other a ‘soft’ one. The former advocated a socialist mixed economy dominated by redistributive mechanisms. He was a radical socialist for whom the market should never be the dominant mechanism of economic coordination. His ‘soft’ alter ego insisted that the market system remain essentially intact but be complemented by redistributive mechanisms. The ‘double movement’ – the central thesis of his ‘Great Transformation’ – acts, in this reading, as a self-correcting mechanism that moderates the excesses of market fundamentalism; its author was positioned within the social-democratic mainstream for which the only realistic desirable goal is a regulated form of capitalism. In terms of textual evidence there is much to be said for both interpretations. In this article I suggest a different approach, one that focuses upon the meaning of Polanyi's concepts in relation to their socio-political and intellectual environment
