Improvement on Wear Resistance of 316 Austenitic Stainless Steel by High Temperature Nitriding Technique

    Get PDF
The purpose of this project is to study on wear resistance of 316L Austenitic Stainless steel and makes an improvement on it by applying high temperature nitriding technique. Wear resistance of current stainless steel in market indeed is not sufficient to sustain this kind of heavy loads. Thus, wear resistance of stainless steel needs to be improved in order to overcome this problem. The process of high-temperature nitriding is investigated as a method of intensifying diffusion saturation with nitrogen for some high-alloy steels of the Ferritic and austenitic types

The Moderating Roles of Perceived Supervisor Support Between Psychological Contract and Job-related Outcomes

Research on psychological contract has made significant contributions to the understanding of how employees view their relationship with their employer. However, few studies have reported how employees’ tendency on relational or transactional contract could influence job-related outcomes. This study emphasizes for whom the relationships between these contracts and job-related outcomes could be increased or decreased. Moreover, this study proposes that stigma consciousness and perceived supervisor support could moderate these relationships. The proposed hypotheses are validated through a survey in an Indonesian organization. The findings indicate that there are positive relationships between individuals who predominantly hold relational contract with their job satisfaction and job performance, but a negative relationship exists for intention to quit. However, the opposite effects for transactional contract are not revealed in this study, which might be due to the cultural values of the sample. Additional findings suggest that perceived supervisor support positively moderates the relationship between psychological contract, job satisfaction and task performance.     Keywords: relational contract, transactional contract, perceived supervisor support and job-related outcome

Numerical Design of Ultra-Wideband Printed Antenna for Surface Penetrating Radar Application

    Get PDF
Surface penetrating radar (SPR) is an imaging device of electromagnetic wave that works by emitting and transmitting a narrow period pulse through the antenna. Due to the use of narrow period pulse, according to the Fourier transform duality, therefore ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna becomes one of the most important needs in SPR system. In this paper, a novel UWB printed antenna is proposed to be used for SPR application. Basically, the proposed antenna is developed from a rectangular microstrip antenna fed by symmetric T-shaped. Some investigation methods such as resistive loading, abrupt transition, and ground plane modification are attempted to achieve required characteristics of bandwidth, radiation efficiency, and compactness needed by the system. To obtain the optimum design, the characteristics of proposed antenna are numerically investigated through the physical parameters of antenna. It is shown that proposed antenna deployed on an FR-4 Epoxy substrate with permittivity of 4.3 and thickness of 1.6mm has a compact size of 72.8mm x 60.0mm and a large bandwidth of 50MHz-5GHz which is suitable for SPR application

Responses of carbon dioxide flux and plant biomass to water table drawdown in a treed peatland in northern Alberta: a climate change perspective

    Get PDF
Northern peatland ecosystems represent large carbon (C) stocks that are susceptible to changes such as accelerated mineralization due to water table lowering expected under a climate change scenario. During the growing seasons (1 May to 31 October) of 2011 and 2012 we monitored CO2 fluxes and plant biomass along a microtopographic gradient (hummocks-hollows) in an undisturbed dry continental boreal treed bog (control) and a nearby site that was drained (drained) in 2001. Ten years of drainage in the bog significantly increased coverage of shrubs at hummocks and lichens at hollows. Considering measured hummock coverage and including tree incremental growth, we estimate that the control site was a sink of −92 in 2011 and −70 g C m−2 in 2012, while the drained site was a source of 27 and 23 g C m−2 over the same years. We infer that, drainage-induced changes in vegetation growth led to increased biomass to counteract a portion of soil carbon losses. These results suggest that spatial variability (microtopography) and changes in vegetation community in boreal peatlands will affect how these ecosystems respond to lowered water table potentially induced by climate chang

Kendal is one of the areas affected by drought. Threat of drought due to climate influences can not be avoided but the impact can be minimized if the pattern of drought in a region may be known. One way that used by using the application of remote sensing is through the processing and analysis algorithms Thermal Vegetation Index (TVI) which is the ratio between Land Surface Temperature (LST) and Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) to assess the distribution and patterns of agricultural drought Kendal in the year 2010-2014 will be connected to the characteristics of the region to determine its relevance to the drought in Kendal. The widest drought occurred in September 2012 with an area of 17275.792 ha, while the lowest drought occurred in September 2010 covering an area of 998.699 ha. Statistical analysis showed that the physical characteristics of the land effect on the incidence of agricultural drought in Kendal

Endoscopic Submucosal Tunnel Dissection as a Novel Therapeutic Technique in Patients With Barrett’s Esophagus

© 2020 American Federation for Medical Research. With the ameliorated resectability prowess of endoscopic techniques, a myriad of diseases previously treated by major ablative surgeries are now endoscopically curable. Endoscopic submucosal tunnel dissection (ESTD) is a relatively new technique that has diversified endoscopic application. Although ESTD has frequently been used for the resection of esophageal neoplastic lesions, the clinical evidence pertaining to its efficacy in the treatment of circumferential Barrett’s esophagus remains sparse. In this study, we evaluated ESTD as a potential therapeutic technique in patients with Barrett’s esophagus-related high-grade dysplasia. The tunneling strategy helped achieve complete en bloc resection at an increased dissection speed, without any procedural complications. This article illustrates that ESTD can be a feasible, safe, and effective treatment for dysplastic Barrett’s esophagus. Future research should aim to stratify the potential risks and complications associated with this optimization of endoscopic submucosal dissection in patients with superficial esophageal lesions
