This paper examined the lfe origin influence on the history of the Ijebupeople. Though the Ijebu people are part of the Yoruba people living in theSouth-western part of Nigeria, who mostly traced their origin to Ife as thesource of mankind, there are doubts in some quarters whether the people are Yoruba. The primary data for this paper were drawn from oral performance of oriki from selected Ijebu towns namely, Ijebu–Ode, Omu, Ikorodu, Aiyepe, Idowa, Imodi, Ijebu-Igbo; selected obas; some warlords and some notable personalities of Ijebuland. The secondary data were the gramophone records, waxed by Ijebu speakers and non-Ijebu speakers, written records, as well as library and archival documentations from the Universities in the South-western part of Nigeria. The study throws more light on the history and origin of the Ijebu people. It also proves that the Ijebu people are connected to the larger Yoruba race and that the Ijebu are still one despite their presence in more than one state and in many towns. The Ijebu people also have their own warlords like other Yoruba people. The study reveals that there is connection between the Ijebu people and the remaining Yoruba society from the Ijebu praise poetry studied. Through the oriki of Ijebupeople, we can locate their source, origin and points of migration to their present location. The study contributes to the development of Yoruba literature in that it has added to our corpus of oriki. This work would be of immense value to scholars of not only literary study but also other fieldssuch as history, linguistics, sociology, anthropology,  ethnography and cultural stud

A Non-standard discrete model for the solution of first order Ordinary Differential Equations using minimally characterized interpolating function

    Get PDF
We present a new set of one step finite difference schemes for the numerical solution of  First order differential equations using a combination of an interpolation function and a modification of the resulting schemes by replacing step size  with a suitable function of   as required by the second non-standard modeling rule. The resulting schemes have been applied to some initial value problems and the schemes have been found to possess  desirable qualitative properties. In this paper, we developed a new Numerical Integrator for solving oscillatory and exponential problems that can be represented by  Ordinary Differential Equation. This integrator was applied in solving some physical problems including the dynamic and aerospace routing problem. The results obtained showed that the numerical integrator is suitable for the simulation of these  problems. KEYWORDS: Dynamic Aerospace problem, Numerical  Integrator, Algorithms, Oscillatory and Exponential problems. Dynamical systems

Work Value and Occupational Hazard as Correlates of Organisational Citizenship Behaviour Among Employees of International Brewery Plc. Ilesa, Nigeria

The importance of organisational citizenship behaviour can never be over emphasised in organisation striving for competitive advantage. Thus, this study examined employees’ organisational citizenship behaviour in relation to factors such as perceived work value, occupational hazard and the combined influence of both factors on organisational citizenship behaviour among employees of International Brewery Plc, Ilesa, Osun State. This is with a view to determining factors that influence organisational citizenship behaviour among workers. Primary data were used for the study. The data were collected from the 269 respondents, which cut across eleven departments: Production, Distribution, Technical, Commercial, Research and Development, Security, Management Information, Quality Assurance, Human Resource, Personnel, Accounting and Audit and Financial department using stratified random sampling technique. Three standardized Psychological Scales were used in the study. These were the Work Value Facet of Personal Life Value Questionnaire (WVFPLV), Organisational Safety Climate Scale (OSCS), Organisational Citizenship Behaviour Checklist (OCB-C). Data collected were analyzed using the appropriate descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Results showed a significant relationship between work value and organisational citizenship behaviour among employees of International Brewery Plc, Ilesa {r (267)=0.350), P 0.05}. The study concluded that work value has and occupational hazard jointly determined organisational citizenship behaviour

RURAL HOUSEHOLDS' SOURCES OF WATER AND WILLINGNESS-TO-PAY FOR IMPROVED WATER SERVICES IN SOUTH-WEST, NIGERIA

Households' source of water is one of the core development indicators recently gaining prominence in Nigeria. This study examined rural households' sources of water and its Willingness to Pay (WTP).  A cross sectional survey involving the use of questionnaire was adopted while a dichotomous choice (DC) with follow up was used as elicitation method. A multi-stage random sampling technique was used to select 437 rural households. Descriptive statistics and Tobit model was used as analytical tool for the study. Results from this study revealed that almost 70% fetched from unimproved water sources. Only 74.4% of the respondents showed WTP for improved water sources. Age(p<0.01), Sex (p<0.01), Education (p<0.01), Occupation(p<0.01), Income (p<0.01), Price of water(P<0.01), Quantity of water (p<0.01), Household size(p<0.01) and Distance(p<0.01) to existing water sources significantly influenced rural households' WTP for these services. Therefore, good water sources should be cited nearer to rural community at a relatively low price by rural households. &nbsp

Inter-Market and Seasonal Variation in Price: An Appraisal of Maize Marketing in Kwara State.

This study investigated inter-market and seasonal variation in prices of maize in Kwara State. Secondary time series data on average monthly retail price of maize in urban and rural markets between 1998 and 2003 were used for the study. Primary data on the average storage cost of maize and the average selling price of maize for 2004 were also used for the study. The study described the seasonal pattern of maize, examined its seasonal price rise and analyzed the inter-market variation in prices of maize in the study area. The study revealed that the seasonal price rise exceeds storage cost but the difference is minimal. The effect of kilometer separation between market- pairs on their Price difference is significant (p < 0.05). Thus, if storage cost should be reduced the inter-market price variation will be reduced while transportation cost should also be reduced to facilitate the movement of food commodities between markets. Second kind Chebyshev collocation technique for Volterra-Fredholm fractional order integro-differential equations

    Get PDF
In this work, we present the numerical solution of fractional order Volterra–Fredholm integro-differential equations using the second kind of Chebyshev collocation technique. First, we transformed the problem into a system of linear algebraic equations, which are then solved using matrix inversion to obtain the unknown constants. Furthermore, numerical examples are used to outline the method’s accuracy and efficiency using tables and figures. The results show that the method performed better in terms of improving accuracy and requiring less rigorous work.©2022 JNSMR UIN Walisongo. All rights reserved

GC-MS analysis and invitro cytotoxic activity of Ocimum basilicum (Lamiaceae) volatile oil and active fraction composed majorly of estragole

Ocimum basilicum leaves contain some bioactive compounds and this study was designed to evaluate the cytotoxic efficacy of its volatile oil and fractions. Preliminary screening of the oil obtained by hydrodistillation was carried out using bench-top assay methods employing tadpoles of Raniceps ranninus (10-40 ÎĽg/mL), nauplii of Artemia salina (10-1000 ÎĽg/mL) and radicles of Sorghum bicolor seeds (1-30 mg/mL). Application of column chromatography and preparative TLC on the oil resulted in fractions that were tested alongside the oil on breast (AU 565) and cervical (HeLa) cancer cell lines at 50 ÎĽg/mL. GCMS analysis was carried out on the oil and the most active fraction. A concentration dependent activity was observed in the preliminary screening with the bench-top assays. The active fraction produced greater growth inhibition of the radicle of S. bicolor seeds than the oil. Inhibitions of -1.02 and +23.02 % were realized against AU 565 and HeLa cell lines respectively with the oil, and these were increased to +33.19 and +89.3 % inhibitions respectively with the active fraction. GCMS results revealed the presence of estragole (88.61 %) as being most abundant in the fraction. This result shows the cytotoxic potential of O. basilicum volatile oil, which was increased in its estragole-containing fraction
