DerechoThe most important objective of this research is to analyze the legal, social and economical implications of the familiar pensions (law 1580 of 2012) in the colombian social security system, in addition to determine the legal, social and economical advantages that offers the familiar pension for spouses or permanent partners and to set up advantages and disadvantages between the general system’s pension and the familiar pension in Colombia. The main content of this paper, is a research of legal court, base in the principal values of a descriptive methodology that contains an analytic order and qualitative approach. The results obtained from the previous study, allow us to make a conclusion, about the legal, social and economical effects that have created the social security system in pensions, in addition, this is a reflection of some of the difficulties and injustices that many colombian people are suffering nowadays. We can also see that with more of the half of the population with terms of poorness and with aberrant figures, this can’t be worst, and also for the acknowledgment and payment of a pension for many sectors would end a feat to achieve it, that’s why the familiar pension comes to balance or to try an equity and this brings the requirements for obtain a pension for the old age, that this would be share with their respective spouses or couples and this would bring a value of the fundamental core in the society that is the family.

3D printing part orientation optimization: discrete approximation of support volume

    Get PDF
In three-dimensional (3D) printing, due to the geometry of most parts, it is necessary to use extra material to support the manufacturing process. This material must be discarded after printing, so its reduction is essential to minimize manufacturing time and cost. An important parameter that must be defined before starting the printing process is the part orientation, which has repercussions on the quality, deposition path, and post-processing among others. Usually, the user sets up this parameter arbitrarily, so this paper takes advantage of it on optimization techniques and proposes an approximation of the volume be covered by the support material, which depends directly on the angle of the part to be printed and its geometry. Among mono-objectives optimization strategies, this work focuses on five of them. Their performance is compared by two metrics: support volume and execution time. Then, the best result is compared with commercial software

    Extracellular Vesicles and Ovarian Cancer

    Get PDF
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are a varied group of cell-derived, microscopic, fluid-filled pouches released from cells into neighboring microenvironments that are quickly gaining recognition as a potentially powerful tool against epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). Recent studies show that not only do EVs play an integral part in the development of cancer through intercellular communication, cell survival, and immune modulation but also may assist with early diagnosis and improved treatments. EOC currently has few effective screening options for early detection of this disease; and, therefore, it is detected at an advanced stage where it is more likely to recur, develop chemoresistance, and ultimately become fatal. Newer research has evaluated EVs as biomarkers for early screening and diagnosis and as novel targets for treatment of EOC. Moreover, EVs are possible targets for novel immunomodulatory therapies to directly target cancer cells or make cancer cells more susceptible to other treatment modalities. Therefore, EVs present an exciting, promising approach which may improve clinical outcome for EOC patients

The emerging Multi-Processor System-on-Chip (MPSoC) technology, which combines heterogeneous computing with the high performance of field programmable gate arrays (FPGA), is a promising platform for a large number of applications, including wireless communications and vehicular technology. In this specific application context, when multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) scenarios are considered, the system usually has to manage a large number of communication links among sensors and antennas involving different vehicles and users. Millimeter wave (mmWave) communications are one of the key technology enablers toward achieving high data rates in beyond 5G systems (B5G). Communication at these frequency bands usually involves the use of large antenna arrays, often requiring high computational resources. One of the candidate platforms able to manage a huge number of communications is the Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ EG Heterogeneous MPSoC, which is composed of a dual-core Cortex-R5, a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53, a graphics processing unit (GPU) and a high-end FPGA. This work analyzes the computational performance that requires a recent mmWave MIMO channel estimation algorithm in a platform of this kind. As a first approach, we will focus our work on the performance that can be achieved via the quad-core ARM Cortex-A53. To this end, we will use the libraries for numerical algebra (BLAS and LAPACK). The results show that our reference implementation is able to manage a large MIMO communication system with 256 antennas without exhausting platform resources.Open Access funding provided thanks to the CRUE-CSIC agreement with Springer Nature. Synthesis of Palladium with Different Nanoscale Structures by Sputtering Deposition onto Fiber Templates

    Get PDF
A flexible and versatile method combining sputtering and electrospinning techniques was used to shape different palladium morphological structures with nanoscale features. The samples were prepared by dc-magnetron sputtering onto thermally degradable polymer templates. The sputtering parameters were chosen to deposit the metal under low adatom-mobility conditions. After deposition, the template was removed by heat treatment, thereby forming different palladium morphologies with shapes resembling ribbons and half tubes, amongst others. X-ray diffraction studies demonstrated that they are composed of crystalline palladium or palladium oxide, depending on the heat treatment. The cylindrical walls are composed of 30 nm or smaller crystallites, as measured from transmission electron microscopy images. A mathematical simulation demonstrate that the morphological structures obtained are a consequence of the sputtering line-of-sight deposition process. This fabrication process can be varied to modify three types of structures at the nanoscale level: the external shape, the columnar shape of the walls, and the nano-crystallinity. The external shape can be modified by controlling the deposition time and the fiber template diameter. The columnar shape of the walls and the nano-crystallinity can be modified by changes in the sputtering process parameters. The nanoscale morphologies created have potential uses in sensing and photonic applications

Multiwavelength observations of V479 Andromedae: a close compact binary with an identity crisis

We conducted a multi-wavelength study to unveil the properties of the extremely long-period cataclysmic variable V479 And. We performed series of observations, including moderate to high spectral resolution optical spectrophotometry, X-ray observations with Swift, linear polarimetry and near-IR photometry. This binary system is a low-inclination ~ 17^o system with a 0.594093(4) day orbital period. The absorption line complex in the spectra indicate a G8--K0 spectral type for the donor star, which has departed from the zero-age main sequence. This implies a distance to the object of about 4 kpc. The primary is probably a massive 1.1-1.4 Msun magnetic white dwarf, accreting matter at a rate M(dot) > 10^-10 Msun/ yr. This rate can be achieved if the donor star fills its corresponding Roche lobe, but there is little observational evidence for a mass-transfer stream in this system. An alternative explanation is a stellar wind from the donor star, although such a high rate mass loss is not anticipated from a subgiant. If the strongly magnetic white dwarf in V479 And. is confirmed by future observations, the system the polar with the longest observed orbital period. We also discuss the evolutionary state of V479 And.Comment: 12 pages, 12 figures, accepted for publication in Astronomy and Astrophysic

A comparison of fuzzy-based energy management systems adjusted by nature-inspired algorithms

The growing energy demand around the world has increased the usage of renewable energy sources (RES) such as photovoltaic and wind energies. The combination of traditional power systems and RESs has generated diverse problems due especially to the stochastic nature of RESs. Microgrids (MG) arise to address these types of problems and to increase the penetration of RES to the utility network. A microgrid includes an energy management system (EMS) to operate its components and energy sources efficiently. The objectives pursued by the EMS are usually economically related to minimizing the operating costs of the MG or maximizing its income. However, due to new regulations of the network operators, a new objective related to the minimization of power peaks and fluctuations in the power profile exchanged with the utility network has taken great interest in recent years. In this regard, EMSs based on off-line trained fuzzy logic control (FLC) have been proposed as an alternative approach to those based on on-line optimization mixed-integer linear (or nonlinear) programming to reduce computational efforts. However, the procedure to adjust the FLC parameters has been barely addressed. This parameter adjustment is an optimization problem itself that can be formulated in terms of a cost/objective function and is susceptible to being solved by metaheuristic nature-inspired algorithms. In particular, this paper evaluates a methodology for adjusting the FLC parameters of the EMS of a residential microgrid that aims to minimize the power peaks and fluctuations on the power profile exchanged with the utility network through two nature-inspired algorithms, namely particle swarm optimization and differential evolution. The methodology is based on the definition of a cost function to be optimized. Numerical simulations on a specific microgrid example are presented to compare and evaluate the performances of these algorithms, also including a comparison with other ones addressed in previous works such as the Cuckoo search approach. These simulations are further used to extract useful conclusions for the FLC parameters adjustment for off-line-trained EMS based designs. This work is part of the projects 2019-PIC-003-CTE and 2020-EXT-007 from the Research Group of Propagation, Electronic Control, and Networking (PROCONET) of Universidad de las Fuerzas Armadas ESPE. Hybrid CPU-GPU implementation of the transformed spatial domain channel estimation algorithm for mmWave MIMO systems

    Get PDF
Hybrid platforms combining multicore central processing units (CPU) with manycore hardware accelerators such as graphic processing units (GPU) can be smartly exploited to provide efcient parallel implementations of wireless communication algorithms for Fifth Generation (5G) and beyond systems. Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems are a key element of the 5G standard, involving several tens or hundreds of antenna elements for communication. Such a high number of antennas has a direct impact on the computational complexity of some MIMO signal processing algorithms. In this work, we focus on the channel estimation stage. In particular, we develop a parallel implementation of a recently proposed MIMO channel estimation algorithm. Its performance in terms of execution time is evaluated both in a multicore CPU and in a GPU. The results show that some computation blocks of the algorithm are more suitable for multicore implementation, whereas other parts are more efciently implemented in the GPU, indicating that a hybrid CPU-GPU implementation would achieve the best performance in practical applications based on the tested platform

Fuzzy logic controller parameter optimization using metaheuristic Cuckoo search algorithm for a magnetic levitation system

    Get PDF
The main benefits of fuzzy logic control (FLC) allow a qualitative knowledge of the desired system’s behavior to be included as IF-THEN linguistic rules for the control of dynamical systems where either an analytic model is not available or is too complex due, for instance, to the presence of nonlinear terms. The computational structure requires the definition of the FLC parameters namely, membership functions (MF) and a rule base (RB) defining the desired control policy. However, the optimization of the FLC parameters is generally carried out by means of a trial and error procedure or, more recently by using metaheuristic nature-inspired algorithms, for instance, particle swarm optimization, genetic algorithms, ant colony optimization, cuckoo search, etc. In this regard, the cuckoo search (CS) algorithm as one of the most promising and relatively recent developed nature-inspired algorithms, has been used to optimize FLC parameters in a limited variety of applications to determine the optimum FLC parameters of only the MF but not to the RB, as an extensive search in the literature has shown. In this paper, an optimization procedure based on the CS algorithm is presented to optimize all the parameters of the FLC, including the RB, and it is applied to a nonlinear magnetic levitation system. Comparative simulation results are provided to validate the features improvement of such an approach which can be extended to other FLC based control systems.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

The case study aims to design an Energy Management System (EMS) to reduce the impact on the grid power when renewable energy sources are incorporated to pre-existing grid-connected household appliances. The scenario considers a residential microgrid comprising photovoltaic and wind generators, flat-plate collectors, electric and thermal loads and electrical and thermal energy storage systems and assumes that neither renewable generation nor the electrical and thermal load demands are controllable. The EMS is built through two low-complexity FLC blocks of only 25 rules each. The first one is in charge of smoothing the power profile exchanged with the grid, whereas the second FLC block drives the power of the Electrical Water Heater (EWH). The EMS uses the forecast of the electrical and thermal power balance between generation and consumption to predict the microgrid behavior, for each 15-minute interval, over the next 12 hours. Simulations results, using real one-year measured data show that the proposed EMS design achieves 11.4% reduction of the maximum power absorbed from the grid and an outstanding reduction of the grid power profile ramp-rates when compared with other state-of-the-art studies.Peer ReviewedObjectius de Desenvolupament Sostenible::7 - Energia Assequible i No ContaminantPostprint (published version
