This study investigates Learning and Leadership Development (LLD) activities of Universal Primary Education (UPE) teachers in Tanzania. The primary research was centered on how the UPE teacher recruitment and training program within the Kilimanjaro region has impacted the rest of the educational system in Tanzania by looking at how the professional development that UPE teachers receive impacts their transformation and identity as professionals. The study utilizes a qualitative method of inquiry with critical interpretation. The first step in utilizing the chosen method was to review the literature and design the focus group, as well as the survey. The focus group discussions laid a foundation for the survey, which was distributed to the field in the Kilimanjaro area. The researcher found teachers who were dissatisfied with the UPE system of education, who were ready to improve their own schools\u27 training and peer coaching, who could not find ways and the means to attain their goal, who desired annual summer courses to improve their education skills, and who desired to take part in annual teachers\u27 conferences and who could not get the opportunity due to lack of finances and governmental cooperation. Tanzania\u27s quality of education cannot be improved unless the adult learning and leadership development activities for teachers are reviewed and put into practice. Also, x formal teacher training should be evaluated and rearranged to meet the anticipated and current needs reflective of twenty-first century educational demand

A field trial was conducted during 2009-2010 at College Orchard, Horticultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, to standardize stage-wise requirement of nutrients in banana cv. Grand Naine (AAA). Treatment T16 where application of 100% RDF (165:52.5:495g NPK plant-1) at 4 critical growth stages, i.e., 40:52.5:25, 30:0:35, 30:0:25 and 0:0:15% at the 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9thmonths after planting (MAP), respectively, recorded maximum plant height, pseudostem girth and leaf area index. Maximum bunch weight of 32.15kg was recorded in T16. Higher yield was attributed to more number of (i) hands per bunch, (ii) fingers per hand and (iii) per bunch, besides the higher average weight of the finger. Better quality fruits, with higher TSS, total sugars, low acidity and better sugar:acid blend, were obtained in T16. In treatment T16, where 100% RDF was applied, increased N, P, and K content were seen in the index leaf of the crop. Lower soil-available nutrients, viz., N, P, K, at the higher level of split-application at critical stages of the crop revealed, that, the nutrients applied were utilized efficiently. This was reflected in the better yield and quality obtained. Economics were worked out which indicated T16 as giving the highest cost:benefit ratio (1:3.97)

Effectiveness of preoperative planned teaching programme on postoperative recovery and follow-up care among patients undergoing CABG surgery

    Get PDF
The coronary arteries of patients with coronary heart disease become clogged with calcium and fatty deposits. The deposits, called plaques, narrow the arteries that carry blood to the heart muscle. Blood supplies the heart muscle with oxygen and sources of energy; ischemia (a reduction in blood flow and oxygen) can produce symptoms of pain in the chest (angina pectoris). In more severe cases, heart attack (myocardial infarction), heart failure, or rhythm abnormalities can cause sudden cardiac death. Coronary artery bypass graft surgery, or CABG (pronounced "cabbage"), is a procedure that uses your own veins (usually from the legs) or arteries to bypass narrowed areas and restore blood flow to heart muscle. Thus, bypass surgery can markedly reduce or relieve chest pain for most patients, and can prolong life for those with certain patterns of severe coronary heart disease. The final decision regarding the best choice of treatment depends upon several factors, including the benefit versus risk of surgery, the severity of your symptoms and cardiac disease, and your underlying medical problems. You should discuss the details of your case with your healthcare provider The main objective of the study is to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on knowledge regarding post operative recovery and follow-up care among patients undergoing CABG at Sudha Hospital, Erode. One group pre test and post test design was used for this study. The independent variable in this study was Post operative recovery and follow-up care of CABG. The dependent variable in this study was knowledge. The study was conducted at Sudha Hospital, Erode which is a 300 bedded hospital. Sample included patients with CABG at Sudha Hospital, Erode who fulfils the inclusion criteria were selected by non probability purposive sampling technique. The comparison revealed pre test mean score of knowledge was 5.30 ± 2.45 and the post test mean score was 31.50±6.49. The mean improvement score was 26.20 i.e., 58.2%. The calculated paired ‘t’ test value of t = 20.752 was found to be statistically highly significant at p < 0.001 level. From the above findings it is indicated that planned teaching programme on knowledge regarding post operative recovery and follow-up care imparted to patients undergoing CABG surgery was found to be effective in increasing their level of knowledge in the post test. There was a significant improvement of knowledge among patients with CABG at Sudha Hospital after structured teaching as an intervention. Thus planned teaching programme on knowledge regarding post operative recovery and follow-up care of CABG was an effective intervention in the enhancement of knowledge among patients undergoing CABG. The present study conducted by the investigator, mainly focused on the planned teaching programme to improve the knowledge on post operative recovery and follow-up care of CABG and was found effective and also the researcher insisted the patients with complications of CABG should seek medical advice and follow up care

BACKGROUND: Opportunistic infections (OI) are the major cause of morbidity and mortality among human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected individuals. The pattern of OIs differs widely, hence it is necessary to correlate spectrum of OIs and CD4 counts among HIV infected individuals in specific localities. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To study the pattern of bacterial, fungal and parasitic opportunistic infections in People living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) and to correlate their CD4 counts with the spectrum of opportunistic infections. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The cross-sectional study was conducted for a period of 1year from July 2016 to June 2017 including 140 PLHA with signs and symptoms of OI. After obtaining informed written consent, samples were collected based on the clinical symptoms and signs using standard work precautions and processed by standard microbiological methods. CD4 count was estimated for all the patients included in the study. RESULTS: Of the 140 PLHA recruited, etiological agents causing opportunistic infection was identified in 50 PLHA. Tuberculosis was the predominant OI constituting to 48% followed by Candidiasis (34.6%), Bacterial bronchopneumonia (9.6%), Cryptococcal meningitis (3.85%), Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (1.9%) and Strongyloidosis(1.9%). Pulmonary tuberculosis was more common (84%) than extrapulmonary tuberculosis(16%). Candida albicans (66.6%) was the most commonly isolated Candida species from Oral thrush compared to non-albicans Candida species (33.3%). C.tropicalis was the predominant species among nonalbicans Candida followed by C.dubliniensis, C.krusei and C.parapsilosis. Prevalence of opportunistic infections showed significant association(P<0.0001) of increasing trend with decrease in CD4 cell count. CONCLUSION: The present study reflects that Tuberculosis followed by Candidiasis were the most common OIs seen in PLHA and the risk of OI increases with decrease in CD4 count. Prompt HAART initiation, along with monitoring patients for OIs with lowered CD4 count, initiating OI prophylaxis, early diagnosis and treatment of OIs will aid in decreasing the morbidity and mortality of the PLHA
