Get PDF

Official Food Safety Control Organization and Enforcement in Barcelona City

Get PDF
Altres ajuts: Agència de Salut Pública de Barcelona BEQU-2020-01Official food safety control seeks to protect consumers' health from suffering any damage caused by food hazards along the food chain. This study describes the organization and implementation of official food safety control in Barcelona city through the FAO/WHO's framework on food control systems. Since the Municipality of Barcelona has more official competences of control than the rest of Catalonia and most of the Spanish municipalities, this administration is in a unique position compared to the rest of Catalonia and most of the Spanish local authorities. Food control is implemented and enforced based on nine action lines, which include control, surveillance and audit programs, management of food-borne outbreaks, alerts, denunciations, complaints and irregularities, sanitary authorizations and registries, and official certificates. This administration owns its official laboratory, which supports all control and surveillance activities. Moreover, communication and information activities are performed and addressed to food business operators and consumers. This is the first time this model has been employed to describe a local food control system. This paper lays the groundwork for improving Barcelona's food control system and enables the latter's comparison to other municipal systems

The name of the company is, undersight house where we build a house underground. We were inspired by the 'rumah terbalik' and taught that it will be better to have more unique idea and views in Sabah. This house is the first in Malaysia and located in Kiulu Tamparuli Sabah. Other than just the house, our surrounding is full with nature such as Kiulu River and jungle. It is a quiet place where you can hear the birds sound clearly. This kind of place is good in reducing stress and having much fun with family members, moreover our place is not that far from the water rafting place. So besides visiting our place and enjoy the nature view you can also do the water rafting. Our target market is the domestic and foreigner tourist. The domestic people will surely come and see the house because it is the first in Sabah and of course will spend time with their family on weekends because of the nature and river. For foreigner this is the kind of places and thing they were attract to come and visit Sabah. More over this will put Malaysia to the eye world and our tourism company will increase. This business has a high potential to be known and grow in the future. We believe that we can make a lot of profit with this project. Even though we do aware that we will experience a decrement at low season, but we believe that it will not be that bad and we still can recover the losses during high pick seasons. We also believe that this will be one of the best locations of holiday in Malaysia. There will be no other place feels like home other that undersight house

Protective Effect of Breastfeeding against Overweight Can Be Detected as Early as the Second Year of Life: A Study of Children from One of the Most Socially-deprived Areas of Brazil

Get PDF
Millions of children live in Brazil’s semi-arid region, one of the most socially-deprived areas of the country, where undernutrition co-exists with obesity as a consequence of the nutrition transition. There is evidence that childhood obesity predisposes adult obesity and, thus, that obesity should be prevented as early as possible. Some studies have shown that breastfeeding is a protective factor against overweight and obesity while other studies have not found this association. There have been few studies on this association in developing countries and of children below two years of age. The present study aimed to investigate whether children exposed to exclusive breastfeeding for 656 months showed a lower prevalence of overweight in the second year of life, based on a probability sample of 2,209 children (aged 12 to 24 months). The dependent variable was overweight, defined as weight-for-length z-scores of >2, based on the WHO 2006 standard while the independent variable was exclusive breastfeeding ( 656 months). The prevalence ratio (PR) and its 95% CI were estimated using Poisson regression with robust adjustment of variance. After adjusting for potential confounding factors (socioeconomic, demographic and health-related variables), children on exclusive breastfeeding for 656 months showed a lower prevalence of overweight (5.7% vs 9.1%, PR 0.62, 95% CI 0.45-0.89). It was found that exclusive breastfeeding for six months or more is a protective factor against overweight in children in the second year of life living in the Brazilian semi-arid region

Xylitol production and furfural consumption by a wild type Geotrichum sp.

Get PDF
Background: Xylitol is a five carbons polyol with promising medical applications. It can be obtained from chemical D-xylose reduction or by microbial fermentation of Sugarcane Bagasse Hemicellulosic Hydrolysate. For this last process, some microbial inhibitors, as furfural, constitute severe bottleneck. In this case, the use of strains able to produce xylitol simultaneously to furfural neutralization is an interesting alternative. A wild-type strain of Geotrichum sp. was detected with this ability, and its performance in xylitol production and furfural consumption was evaluated. Furthermore, were analyzed its degradation products. Results: Geotrichum sp. produced xylitol from D-xylose fermentation with a yield of 0.44 g\ub7g-1. Furfural was fully consumed in fermentation assay and when provided in the medium until concentration of 6 g\ub7L-1. The furfural degradation product is not an identified molecule, presenting a molecular weight of 161 g\ub7mol-1, an uncommon feature for the microbial metabolism of this product. Conclusion: This strain presents most remarkable potential in performing furfural consumption simultaneous to xylitol production. Subsequent efforts must be employed to establish bioprocess to simultaneous detoxification and xylitol production by Geotrichum sp

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fire behavior on a part of Semideciduous Seasonal Forest, using the variables: fire intensity, burning time, fuel, heat content and heat released. Ten plots of 5 by 5 meters were used , totalizing 250 m2, and the distance between each plot was 1 meter in a place named “Reserva da Biologia” property of Universidade Federal de Vi\ue7osa, Minas Gerais, (20먵’-28멐’S e 42멅’-43먀’W) . In this place a control burning was performed using strip headfire technique, obeying the slope direction. The amount of local dry matter, fire propagation velocity, intensity, heat released and heat content were measured. The time duration of the burning ranged between plots of 3’30 “to 9’18”. Wind velocity, temperature, relative humidity were constant in all plots, with values 3, 5 m s-1 North, 20\uba C and 79% respectively. The values found for fire behavior variables ranged between plots: from 0, 32 to 1, and 10 Kg m-2 for fuel, from 11, 94 to 75,79 Kcals-1m-1 for burning intensity and from 1111 to 3789 Kcal m-2 for heat released. The average values for rate of spread and heat released were 0,017 m s-1 and 4411 Kcal Kg-1, respectively. In the year 2005, the weather conditions were atypical comparing to another years in Vi\ue7osa, witch in every month occurs a certain amount of rain. This fact had interference in the fire behavior parameters, for that reason the burning were classified as low intensity
