    1.55-Ī¼m mode-locked quantum-dot lasers with 300ā€‰MHz frequency tuning range

Lett. 106, 031114 (2015) and may be found at https://doi.org/10.1063/1.4906451.Passive mode-locking of two-section quantum-dot mode-locked lasers grown by metalorganic vapor phase epitaxy on InP is reported. 1250-Ī¼m long lasers exhibit a wide tuning range of 300ā€‰MHz around the fundamental mode-locking frequency of 33.48 GHz. The frequency tuning is achieved by varying the reverse bias of the saturable absorber from 0 to āˆ’2.2ā€‰V and the gain section current from 90 to 280ā€‰mA. 3ā€‰dB optical spectra width of 6ā€“7ā€‰nm leads to ex-facet optical pulses with full-width half-maximum down to 3.7 ps. Single-section quantum-dot mode-locked lasers show 0.8 ps broad optical pulses after external fiber-based compression.     Prognostic significance of tumor regression grade and epidermal growth factor receptor in locally advanced squamous cell esophageal cancer treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiation

    Rezultati brojnih studija ukazali su na to da bolesnici sa skvamocelularnim karcinomom jednjaka kod kojih je hemio-radioterapija dovela do kompletnog histoloÅ”kog odgovora imaju bolje preživljavanje. Međutim, svega 20-30% bolesnika ostvari kompletnu remisiju na račun visoke toksičnosti. Za sada, nema sigurnih markera predikcije odgovora na terapiju i prognoze preživljavanja ovih bolesnika. Cilj naÅ”eg istraživanja je bio utvrđivanje nivoa ekspresije EGF receptora u preterapijskom histoloÅ”kom uzorku karcinoma jednjaka, evaluacija kliničke i histopatoloÅ”ke regresije (TRG) nakon neoadjuvantne hemio-radioterapije, korelacija kliničke i histopatoloÅ”ke regresije sa prezivljavanjem i vremenom do progresije kao i korelacija niova ekspresije EGFR sa odgovorom na hemioradioterapiju, preživljavanjem i vremenom do progresije. Posebno je analizirana stopa resektabilnosti, lokalne kontrole i toksičnost tretmana. Studija je dizajnirana kao prospektivna, multicentrična, nerandomizovana i obuhvatila je jednu grupu od 63 bolesnika sa histopatoloÅ”ki dokazanim lokalno uznapredovalim skvamocelularnim karcinomom jednjaka. Ekspresija EGFR markera je ispitivana imunohistohemijskim bojenjem u preterapijskom biospijskom uzorku tumora. Svim bolesnicima je aplikovana konkomitantna hemio-radioterapija. Bolesnici prevedeni u operabilni stadijum su ezofagektomisani. HistopatoloÅ”ka evaluacija resekovanog uzorka obuhvatala je proÅ”irenost tumora (ypTNM), rezidualni status i tumorski regresioni gradus (TRG). Rezultati navedene studije pokazuju da skvamocelularni karcinom jednjaka ima visok nivo ekspresije EGFR. Stopa kliničkog odgovora nakon hemioradioterapije iznosila je oko 50%, a resektabilnosti 37%. Kompletan patohistoloÅ”ki odgovor (TRG 1) iznosio je oko 26%. Eskpresija EGFR nije korelisala sa odgovorom na hemio-radioterapiju. Dodavanje hirurgije poboljÅ”ava lokalnu kontrolu bolesti, ukupno preživljavanje i vreme do progresije, ali ne utiče na udaljenu diseminaciju. Uočili smo statistički značajano čeŔću pojava relapsa u grupi EGFR pozitivnih bolesnika, ali ni EGRF ni tumorski regresini gradus nisu korelisali sa ukupnim preživljavanjem kao ni sa vremenom do progresije. Toksičnost tretmana je bila značajnaThe results of various studies imply better survival in patients with squamous cell esophageal who achieve complete patohistological response to chemoradiation. However, only 20-30% of patients will reach complete remission on behalf of great toxicity. Up to now, there are no distinctive predictive and prognostic markers that would suggest better response to treatment and survival of these patients. The aim of our study was to determine EGFR expression in pretherapy esophageal cancer biopsy specimen, to evaluate clinical response and patohistological regression grade (TRG) to neoadjuvant chemoradiation, correlation of clinical and patohistological regression to survival and time to progression, as well as correlation of EGFR expression to response to chemoradiation, survival and time to progression. Resectability rate, local control and treatment toxicity were analyzed also. The study was designed as prospective, multicentric and nonrandomized. Sixty three patients with histologically proven locally advanced squamous cell esophageal cancer were enrolled. EGFR expression was evaluated by immunohistochemical staining in a pretherapy tumor biopsy specimen. All patients received concomitant chemoradiotherapy. Patients converted to operable stage received surgery. Histological evaluation of resected specimen included tumor expansion, (ypTNM), residual stage and tumor regression grade (TRG). The results of this study showed that squamous cell esophageal cancer had high EGFR expression. Clinical response rate was 50%, and resectability rate was 37%. Complete patohistologic response to chemoradiotherapy (TRG 1) was 26%. EGFR expression did not correlate with response to chemoradiation. Addition of surgery improved local control, overall survival and time to progression, but had no impact on distant failure. We noted signifficantly higher relaps rate in EGFR positive group of patients, but neither EGRF nor tumor regression grade correlated with overall survival and time to progression.     Phenomenon of heterogeneous ovary tumors is probably the result of activity of the whole series of various factors, which play significant role in genesis, development and classification of tumors, In the age of puberty and adolescence, as a transitional period from childhood to adulthood, it is not rarely seen that due to the influence of hormone regulation, social environment and psychophysical stability, the break of correlation of the mentioned factors can imperil reproductive health of young people. That is the moment when the illnesses of reproductive system become noteworthy for the first time. Thus the immense role of juvenile gynecology is to preserve reproductive health of adolescent girls by preventive health education. The most frequent illnesses of ovary are in tight connection with ovary tumor changes, which could have influence on the normal function of the ovary.Pojava raznovrsnih tumora ovarijalnog porekla, verovatno je posledica delovanja čitavog niza različitih faktora, koji imaju značajnu ulogu u pojavi, razvoju i klasifikaciji tumora. U pubertetu i adolescenciji, kao prelaznom periodu iz detinjstva u zrelo doba, pod uticajem hormonske regulacije, socijalne sredine i psihofizičke ravnoteže, najčeŔće može doći do prekida korelacije pomenutih faktora, a Å”to može da ugrozi reproduktivno zdravije mladih. Bolesti reproduktivnog sistema tada prvi put postaju značajne. Zato je značaj i uloga juvenilne ginekologije da preventivno zdravstveno-vaspitnim radom i pravovremenim lečenjem sačuva reproduktivno zdravlje adolescentkinja, jer najčeŔća oboljenja ovarijuma su u tesnoj vezi sa tumoroznim promenama, koji mogu da utiču na normalnu funkciju ovarijuma

    Pressure effects on the transport coefficients of Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2

    We report the temperature dependence of the resistivity and thermoelectric power under hydrostatic pressure of the itinerant antiferromagnet BaFe2As2 and the electron-doped superconductor Ba(Fe0.9Co0.1)2As2. We observe a hole-like contribution to the thermopower below the structural-magnetic transition in the parent compound that is suppressed in magnitude and temperature with pressure. Pressure increases the contribution of electrons to transport in both the doped and undoped compound. In the 10% Co-doped sample, we used a two-band model for thermopower to estimate the carrier concentrations and determine the effect of pressure on the band structure

    The Content of Coumarin in the Commercial Samples of Cinnamon Bark and Cinnamon-Containing Dietary Supplements Available on the Serbian Market

    Cinnamon bark is used worldwide due to its characteristic flavour and medicinal properties. Ceylon cinnamon or ā€œtrueā€ cinnamon bark refers to the dried inner bark of the shoots of Cinnamomum verum J. Presl, originated from Sri Lanka. The bark of some other species of this genus, Cinnamomum cassia Blume (Chinese cinnamon), C. burmanni (Nees & T. Nees) Blume (Indonesian cinnamon), and C. loureiroi Nees (Saigon cinnamon) are also marketed and sold as cinnamon. They are characterised by a significantly higher amount of coumarin compared to Ceylon cinnamon bark. Since coumarin may be potentially hepatotoxic, the aim of this study was to determine coumarin level in commercial samples of cinnamon bark and in cinnamon-containing dietary supplements present on the Serbian market. HPLC analysis showed lowest coumarin content in Ceylon cinnamon bark samples (0.08ā€“0.15 mg gā€“1), whereas other samples contained a significantly higher amounts of coumarin (1.38ā€“5.80 mg gā€“1). Cinnamon based dietary supplements contained 0.007-1.19 mg coumarin/tablet. The obtained results indicate that the majority of commercial samples of cinnamon bark on the Serbian market do not originate from the Ceylon cinnamon but from other species of this genus, and that consumed amount of certain products should be taken into account since the tolerable daily intake of coumarin is limited

    Asymptotic dynamics of the alternate degrees of freedom for a two-mode system: an analytically solvable model

    The composite systems can be non-uniquely decomposed into parts (subsystems). Not all decompositions (structures) of a composite system are equally physically relevant. In this paper we answer on theoretical ground why it may be so. We consider a pair of mutually un-coupled modes in the phase space representation that are subjected to the independent quantum amplitude damping channels. By investigating asymptotic dynamics of the degrees of freedom, we find that the environment is responsible for the structures non-equivalence. Only one structure is distinguished by both locality of the environmental in uence on its subsystems and a classical-like description.Comment: 11 pages, no figures/table

    Conjunct Agreement and Gender in South Slavic: From Theory to Experiments to Theory

    Agreement with coordinated subjects in Slavic languages has recently seen a rapid increase in theoretical and experimental approaches, contributing to a wider theoretical discussion on the locus of agreement in grammar (cf. MaruÅ”ič, Nevins, and Saksida 2007; BoÅ”ković 2009; MaruÅ”ič, Nevins, and Badecker 2015). This paper revisits the theoretical predictions proposed for conjunction agreement in a group of South Slavic languages, with a special focus on gender agreement. The paper is based on two experiments involving speakers of Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian (BCS) and Slovenian (Sln). Experiment 1 is an elicited production experiment investigating preverbal-conjunct agreement, while Experiment 2 investigates postverbal-conjunct agreement. The data provide experimental evidence discriminating between syntax proper and distributed-agreement models in terms of their ability to account for preverbal highest-conjunct agreement and present a theoretical mechanism for the distinction between default agreement (which has a fixed number and gender, independent of the value of each conjunct) and resolved agreement (which computes number and gender based on the values of each conjunct and must resolve potential conflicts). Focusing on the variability in the gender-agreement ratio across nine combinations, the experimental results for BCS and Sln morphosyntax challenge the notion of gender markedness that is generally posited for South Slavic languages

    Landscape, Memory, and the Shifting Regional Geographies of Northwest Bosnia-Herzegovina

    Writing and arguing with older discourses that have informed the subdiscipline of regional geography and setting them against new ways of conceiving of the region, this article considers the northwest of Bosnia-Herzegovina as a site that calls for a newly animated form of regional study. Of particular concern here is the role that memory and commemorative practices play in such a spatial schema. The monumental landscapes of the Tito regime and its collective commemoration of World War II sit alongside and are troubled by the more recent traumas and spaces of unmarked death associated with the ethnic war in Bosnia during the early 1990s. Read together, northwest Bosnia-Herzegovina functions as a vivid exemplar for understanding traumatic historical mourning as a phenomenological process that is inseparable from the wider geopolitical landscape
