    Este ensaio aborda aspectos da Educação Estética no âmbito educacional, trazendo conceitos de ontem e hoje, procurando apresentar um percurso do conceito de estética no decorrer de sua trajetória. Em seguida, evidencia  aspectos do conceito de beleza com base nos filósofos da Antiguidade, bem como realiza  uma inter-relação entre Arte-Educação e Educação Estética. Deste modo, este trabalho procura compreender o verdadeiro conceito de Estética e Arte-Educação desde os primórdios da Antiguidade até a Contemporaneidade. Para tanto, o trabalho estabelece uma relação entre Arte, Sensível e Humano e sua relevância para o campo educacional. Assim, este estudo apresenta alguns estudiosos que sustentam esta discussão, como: Jimenez, Kant, Duarte Jr., Vilela, Ormezzano, dentre outros. Portanto, procura-se ao longo deste ensaio apresentar a Educação Estética como um compartilhamento de experiências vividas, evidenciando sensações, sentimentos, conflitos e toda a subjetividade que aflora com a Educação Estética para os envolvidos no processo

    A review of angular leaf spot resistance in common bean.

    Angular leaf spot (ALS), caused by Pseudocer-cospora griseola, is one of the most devastating diseases of common bean (Phaseolus vulgarisL.) in tropical and subtropical production areas. Breeding for ALS resistance is difficult due to the extensive virulence diversity of P. griseolaand the recurrent appearance of new virulent races. Five major loci, Phg-1 to Phg-5, confer-ring ALS resistance have been named, and markers tightly linked to these loci have been reported. Quantitative trait loci (QTLs) have also been described, but the validation of some QTLs is still pending. The Phg-1, Phg-4, and Phg-5loci are from common bean cultivars of the Andean gene pool, whereas Phg-2 and Phg-3are from beans of the Mesoamerican gene pool. The reference genome of common bean and high-throughput sequencing technologies are enabling the development of molecular markers closely linked to the Phg loci, more accurate mapping of the resistance loci, and the compar-ison of their genomic positions. The objective of this report is to provide a comprehensive review of ALS resistance in common bean. Further-more, we are reporting three case studies of ALS resistance breeding in Latin America and Africa. This review will serve as a reference for future resistance mapping studies and as a guide for the selection of resistance loci in breeding programs aiming to develop common bean cultivars with durable ALS resistance

    Robust estimation of bacterial cell count from optical density

    Optical density (OD) is widely used to estimate the density of cells in liquid culture, but cannot be compared between instruments without a standardized calibration protocol and is challenging to relate to actual cell count. We address this with an interlaboratory study comparing three simple, low-cost, and highly accessible OD calibration protocols across 244 laboratories, applied to eight strains of constitutive GFP-expressing E. coli. Based on our results, we recommend calibrating OD to estimated cell count using serial dilution of silica microspheres, which produces highly precise calibration (95.5% of residuals <1.2-fold), is easily assessed for quality control, also assesses instrument effective linear range, and can be combined with fluorescence calibration to obtain units of Molecules of Equivalent Fluorescein (MEFL) per cell, allowing direct comparison and data fusion with flow cytometry measurements: in our study, fluorescence per cell measurements showed only a 1.07-fold mean difference between plate reader and flow cytometry data

    Tumescent Local Anesthesia With Ropivacaine In Different Concentrations In Bitches Undergoing Mastectomy: Plasma Concentration And Post-operative Analgesia

    Objective: To compare two concentrations of ropivacaine administered for tumescent local anesthesia (TLA) in dogs undergoing mastectomy. Study design: Prospective randomized clinical study. Animals: Seventeen bitches of various breeds, aged 12 ± 2 years and weighing 10 ± 6.5 kg requiring total unilateral or bilateral mastectomy. Methods: Dogs were premedicated with acepromazine (0.04 mg kg-1) and morphine (0.4 mg kg-1) intramuscularly. Anesthesia was induced with propofol (2.5 mg kg-1) and midazolam (0.2 mg kg-1) intravenously, followed by intubation and maintenance with isoflurane and TLA. Dogs were randomly allocated to receive TLA either with 0.1% ropivacaine (group G1) or with 0.05% ropivacaine (group G05). TLA was performed by insertion of a multihole needle under the skin and infusion of ropivacaine and lactated Ringer's solution at a fixed volume of 15 mL kg-1. Ropivacaine concentrations in arterial blood were measured by high-performance liquid chromatography. Post-operative pain was assessed using two scales (University of Melbourne pain scale and a modified composite measure pain scale) and von Frey filaments, 4 hours after TLA and at 1 hour intervals until sensitivity was regained. A score above 30% of the maximum possible score was considered a positive indicator of pain. Results: Peak plasma concentrations of ropivacaine were measured 240 minutes after TLA in G1. Low concentrations were measured in G05 for 60 minutes, with subsequent increase. Analgesic rescue and return of sensitivity occurred at 7 ± 2.3 and 7 ± 1.9 hours (mean ± SD) after TLA for G1 and G05, respectively. Conclusions and clinical relevance: Tumescent local anesthesia with ropivacaine provided satisfactory post-operative analgesia that lasted for several hours, with no difference in duration between the concentrations. No serious side effects were attributed to TLA.
