¿És d'interès públic mantenir una xarxa de seguiment de ratpenats als espais naturals protegits de l'Alt Empordà?

Entre els anys 2001 a 2009 s’han realitzat diverses campanyes d’estudi de ratpenats a l’Alt Empordà, sobretot en espais naturals protegits. A banda d’unes 300 nits de camp, s’han realitzat nou conferències, s’ha editat material didàctic i generat desenes de notícies. Durant aquest període, s’han citat 25 espècies de ratpenats (86% de les catalanes). A l’Albera i l’AltaGarrotxa és on s’han trobat més espècies, segurament a causa de l’elevada diversitat d’hàbitats i presència de boscos ben conservats. Entre els diferents espais naturals, s’hi ha pogut confirmar connectivitat, sobretot gràcies als corredors fluvials amb vegetació de ribera existents. En general, aquest estudi mostra l’interès dels ratpenats com a bioindicadors de la qualitat del nostre entorn i convida investigadors i gestors a continuar fent campanyes de divulgació i sensibilitzacióBetween 2001 and 2009, several field studies on bats have been carried out in the Alt Empordà region, especially in protected areas. Besides 300 nights in the field, nine conferences were held, educational material has been edited and dozens of news articles have been published. During this period, 25 species of bats (86% of Catalan species) have been cited.Most species were found in the Albera mountain range and the Alta Garrotxa region, surely because of their elevated diversity of habitats and the presence of wellconserved forests. A connection between the different natural parks has been confirmed thanks to the river corridors and their vegetation. In general, this study is interested in bats as bioindicators of environmental quality and invites researchers and managers to continue outreach and awareness campaigns

XYZ-Stars i Solar System Pathway : una experiència museística de treball per projectes sobre les constel·lacions i el Sistema Solar

L'alumnat de secundària sol presentar concepcions errònies relatives a les dimensions i proporcions de l'Univers i els cossos celests. Les metodologies actives (com el treball per projectes) suposen una oportunitat per a ubicar aquestes concepcions en el marc d'un con-flicte cognitiu. Es descriuen dues experiències interdisciplinars de treball per projectes sobre les constel·lacions i el Sistema Solar. Les experiències s'han dut a terme com a projecte trimestral en col·laboració amb el Museu de Ciències Naturals de Granollers, i ha resultat en una exposició oberta al públic de les produccions dels alumnes en una sala del museu i en forma de maqueta urbana de 10 km. Els resultats de l'aplicació es descriuen juntament amb una valoració per a orientar el desenvolupament de projectes trimestrals.High school students usually present misconceptions related with the dimensions and pro-portions of the Univers and celestials bodies. Active methodologies (as project work) repre-sent an opportunity to put these misconceptions in a situation of a cognitive conflict. In this article, it has been described two interdisciplinary experiences of project work about the constellations and the Solar system. The experiences have been developed as a quarterly project with the collaboration of Natural Science Museum of Granollers, and as a result it has been done an exhibition open to the public about students' productions in a room of the museum as a urban model. The results of the applications have been described together with an assessment to guide the development of quarterly projects

Male-biased litter sex ratio in the southernmost Iberian population of edible dormouse : a strategy against isolation?

Litter sex ratio is a key component of parental fitness due to its impact on lifetime reproductive success. Multiple causes may lay at the origin of sex ratio variation among species and populations, such as maternal condition, local resource competition, presence of helpers, habitat quality or inbreeding levels. Whereas variation in sex allocation between species is relatively well understood, it is still unclear how and why litter sex allocation differs within species. Here, we present an analysis of litter sex ratio variation in two populations of edible dormice (Glis glis) over nine years of study. Populations are situated in the Montnegre and Montseny massifs in Catalonia (NE Iberian Peninsula). The Montnegre population is nowadays an isolated population located at the southernmost range edge of the species in the Iberian Peninsula. Litter sex ratio was male-biased in Montnegre but balanced in Montseny, whereas both populations showed a balanced adult sex ratio. We suggest that this differential sex allocation investment in Montnegre, may be a strategy to overcome isolation effects in this massif, as males are the dispersing sex in this and other rodent species

Ricardo García Cárcel (Requena, 1948) estudió Historia en Valencia bajo el magisterio de Joan Reglà, con quien formó parte del primer profesorado de historia moderna en la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona. En esta universidad, desde hace prácticamente cincuenta años, ha desarrollado una extraordinaria labor docente y de investigación marcada por un sagaz instinto histórico, que le ha convertido en pionero de casi todo lo que ha estudiado: las Germanías, la historia de la Cataluña moderna, la Inquisición, las culturas del Siglo de Oro, la Leyenda Negra, Felipe II, Felipe V, Austrias y Borbones, la guerra de la Independencia, la historia cultural, los mitos de la historia de España... Muy pocos tienen su capacidad para reflexionar, ordenar, analizar, conceptualizar y proponer una visión amplia y llena de matices sobre el pasado y las interpretaciones historiográficas. A su laboriosidad inimitable se añade una dedicación sin límites en el asesoramiento de alumnos e investigadores e impulsando revistas, dosieres, seminarios o publicaciones colectivas. Una mínima correspondencia a su generosidad lo constituye este volumen a manera de ineludible agradecimiento
