Discourse analysis and structural supervision

    No full text
Structural supervision is a conceptual framework, which allows us to analyze problems in the working environment without personalizing them by the use of discourse-analytical and subject-scientific instruments. It is an attempt to combine supervision with an emancipatory impulse. In this paper I sketch the basic assumptions and the analytical framework with its theoretical implications. Following from there I describe the different steps of a supervision process. Finally I give an example of a supervision process in order to illustrate the advantages and problems of this approach. The example is taken from work with the Sanctuary Movement in Germany

Dimensions of a critical psychology of learning and teaching

    No full text
This paper examines different dimensions of the relationship between learning and teaching from a critical psychological point ofview, in order to gain new ideas for a critical psychology of teaching. The focus is on the conceptualisation of the learner, the teacher and the learning-object, as well as the learning-teaching relation and the institutional background. These reflect'ions remain in an area of conflict, because, on the one hand, concepts of teaching have to be improved and on the other, especially in school, the repressive function of teaching-processes is apparent in the selection and ideological formation of people. This fundamental contradiction is responsible for many problems within educational practices

Primary non-communicable disease prevention and communication barriers of deaf sign language users: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND Deaf sign language users have lower health literacy and poorer access to non-communicable disease prevention information as compared to the general population. The aim was to explore disease concepts embedded in signs, primary non-communicable disease prevention behaviour and communication barriers among members of a deaf community. METHODS A qualitative study with a social constructivist approach was conducted to explore perspectives of deaf sign language users.15 individuals, two with and 13 without history of diabetes were recruited for semi-structured in-depth interviews in sign language at a deaf community center. The interviews were video-recorded, translated and analyzed using thematic content analysis. RESULTS Diabetes as one of the main non-communicable diseases is conceptualized differently in the manual component of signs depending on how deaf sign language users construct diabetes pathophysiologically. The disease conceptualization is not represented in the mouthing component. Health information seeking behavior varies among deaf sign language users and depends on their individual spoken and written language literacy. Overcoming communication barriers is key for developing an understanding of diabetes and other non-communicable disease prevention activities. CONCLUSIONS To develop barrier-free and inclusive non-communicable disease and diabetes prevention strategies for deaf sign language users, health professionals need to pay attention to sign language specific linguistic concepts. More studies are needed to better understand the specific needs of sign language users and effective strategies in health promotion contexts for sign language users

In this volume you will find content-related suggestions for teaching concepts with a gender focus as well as methodical ideas on how you can combine your face-to-face event with virtual learning in a more varied way with new information and communication media. In particular, we also reflect on the methods and experiences in implementation. This volume is the result of the "E-Learning in Gender Studies" project, which has been producing digital teaching materials for Gender Studies at the Braunschweiger Zentrum für Gender Studies since October 2013. E-learning teaching units were designed for imparting and reflecting on gender knowledge for various subjects such as interdisciplinary teaching and made available for the teachers at the Technische Universität Braunschweig

Salutogenesis Post-Graduate Education: Experience From the European Perspective on the ETC-PHHP Health Promotion Summer Schools (1991–2020)

In this chapter, the authors, representing The Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Italy, Norway, the United Kingdom and Poland, trace the development of higher education in salutogenesis in Europe, spanning 30 years. At this time, the annual summer schools of the European Training Consortium in Public Health and Health Promotion (ETC-PHHP) have trained more than 700 participants from 60 countries. Perhaps the most distinguished member of the summer school’s faculty – at least from the perspective of advancing salutogenesis as a theory for health promotion – is Aaron Antonovsky, who participated in the 1992 edition of the course in Gothenburg, Sweden
