    Get PDF
Cerebral palsy (CP) kids are a group of disorders that affect their mobility. This health condition is somewhat of a crucial disability and requires treatment to have a better lifestyle as they grow older. It is important to acknowledge the existence of this CP and ways to battle or treat it. Currently, the physio-treadmill (PhyMill) is well developed for CP kids. In this study, we focus on a quantitative survey that was conducted to predictors of the knowledge towards CP and PhyMill among university students, and to observe the awareness of the treatment based on ergonomics, biomechanics, and safety aspects using the PhyMill. The results showed that a huge percentage of students are aware of the knowledge of CP and how to know if an individual is experiencing this disability. The responses for the function of PhyMill have shown the students that the function of the PhyMill is to stimulate the conditioning of a healthier lifestyle in patients with this health condition. The responsive feedback of treatment on ergonomics, biomechanics, and safety aspects also shows comfortable, user-friendly, and good safety inventions by using PhyMill. The significance of this study is would explore the possibility of PhyMill to enhance the performance of patient treatment

Urban farming is seen as a sustainable practice with the social, economic and urban environment benefits. Despite the efforts by the government, there is lack of public participation in urban farming activities and challenges in sustaining urban farming participants’ interest. The study is aimed at measuring urban farming participation motivations using the Expectancy Theory of Motivation which is made up of three aspects; namely expectancy, instrumentality and valence. This paper describes the findings regarding the expectancy aspect of motivation (measured by using Expectancy theory) in urban farming activity in Malaysia

Social Group Related Entry Participation Motivations for Continuing Professional Development Activities Among Malaysian Registered Quantity Surveyors

    Get PDF
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is aimed at continually updating Malaysian quantity surveying professionals’ knowledge to help them adapt to changes and challenges in the Malaysian construction industry. Proof of such participation is now a condition for the renewal of quantity surveying practice licences with the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia. This article describes the findings of the qualitative research phase of a research into CPD entry participation motivations of Malaysian registered quantity surveyors. The analysis method of the interview transcripts of 31 registered quantity surveyors combined content analysis and grounded theory analysis. This analysis generated seven motivation themes regarding participation in CPD activities. The influence of the social group underlie five of these motivation themes, that are professional and geographical isolation, professional belonging, ''balancing'' of obligations, racial group orientations, and social participation in voluntary associations. It is proposed that further research in group influences on entry participation motivations for CPD activities be don

Measuring Bourdieu Capitals of Landscape Architects In Malaysian Landscape Architecture Firms

Pierre Bourdieu (1986) introduced the concept of capitals as forms of intangible resources that individual use to advance their socio-economic status. Past relevant researches have not focused on all Bourdieu capitals. This study conceptualises the Bourdieu capitals to empirically determine the intangible resources of Malaysian leader landscape architects. The aim of this study is to determine the type of capitals of leader landscape architects in Malaysian landscape architecture firms. All landscape architecture firms (73 nos.) in the database of the Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia were chosen for the survey. The firms were given the letter of invitation and questionnaires through the post. Thirty-nine firms responded to the invitation which resulted in 90 subordinates landscape architects and assistant landscape architects as respondents. The subordinates were asked to rate their leaders’ (landscape architects) capitals. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics and factor analysis. Factor analysis findings generated 5 factors (capitals). The capitals are social, human, emotional, cultural and design authority. The study findings provide evidence of the validity of scales to measure the intangible resources of the leading landscape architects in Malaysian landscape architecture firms. It also suggests a new research perspective for the Trait Theory of Leadership by replacing the traits with Bourdieu’s forms of capitals

Gardens are positive elements of our urban environment and landscape. They are created to preserve existing vegetation and for enhancing the natural environment besides bring the benefits for human emotionally, intellectually, socially and physically. And today, the numbers of restoration and implementation for garden in urban area in Malaysia have increased in variety of types such as the botanical garden. As referred to National Landscape Department, a high number of Botanical Garden is being developed in Malaysia such as in Johor, Selangor, Perak and Terengganu. This future planning received a positive feedback by the public and experts. According to its achievements and contributions, therefore, the Penang Botanical Garden is officially taken as good example of successful Botanical Garden in Malaysia However, a forum on Penang Botanical Garden 2008 highlighted that the current development is being undertaken without any reference to the 1989 Botanical Development Master Plan thus the ignorance of this particular aspect would result to incoherent garden appearance. It is strongly believed that developing a Botanical Garden is not just improving the urban ecosystem and preserves the environment, it is also about visitor's satisfaction and perceptions towards the visual quality of the garden. Therefore, research on visual quality assessment in Penang Botanical Garden is very important to be made as part of restructuring process of the garden

Islamic banking sectors in Gulf Cooperative Council countries: analysis on revenue, cost and profit efficiency concepts

This paper examines the revenue efficiency and the others efficiencies concepts profit and cost efficiency levels of 74 banks (47 conventional and 27 Islamic banks) in Gulf Cooperative Council (GCC) countries over the periods 2007 to 2011. The level of efficiencies was measured using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method which applied the intermediation approach. We find that, that the Islamic banks have exhibited a lower efficiency levels for all three efficiencies measures rather than conventional banks. This study seems to suggest revenue efficiency seems to play the main factor leading to the lower or higher profit efficiency levels. The determinants that could improve the revenue efficiency in GCC Islamic banks were identified using Multiple Regression Analysis (MRA). Four bank specific determinants were found to influence the improvement of revenue efficiency: asset quality, non-traditional activities, management quality and liquidity. The improvement of the revenue efficiency in GCC Islamic banks was also influenced by the macroeconomic variable inflation and concentration ratio of the three largest banks

    Get PDF
